00:00Today, November 7th, the Church commemorates Saint Carina of Rome,
00:07a woman, a wife and a mother who bore witness to an unwavering faith until martyrdom.
00:16With her husband Saint Melasipus and their son Saint Anthony,
00:20She lived in the capital of the Roman Empire in the 4th century.
00:24at a time when the Christian faith was still persecuted,
00:27particularly under Emperor Julian Laposta who attempted to restore pagan worship and extinguish the faith of Christ.
00:35Carine and Mélasipe were a couple deeply united by their faith.
00:41Together, they had passed on to their young son Antoine a fervent love for God.
00:45and absolute confidence in eternal life.
00:50When the soldiers came to arrest Melasipus for refusing to worship the gods of the Empire,
00:55Carine refused to flee.
00:58She presented herself, proclaiming gently but firmly
01:02that she too was a disciple of Christ, just like her husband and their child.
01:08The governor tried to make them renounce their faith by separating them,
01:12thinking that family ties would break their resistance.
01:16But it was quite the opposite.
01:18The loyalty of one strengthened the faith of the others.
01:22Melasipus declared
01:23And Carine, her eyes turned towards her son, replied
01:34"My child, the life God promises you is more beautiful than anything the world could offer you."
01:42Even the executioners, it is said, were moved by their courage and mutual tenderness.
01:47They were tortured, then sentenced to death.
01:50According to tradition, Antoine was executed first, in front of his parents, in order to make them relent.
02:00On the contrary, they glorified God for having given him the crown of martyrdom.
02:04Carine and Melasipus were then in turn subjected to torture.
02:10praying together until their last breath.
02:14Their tomb in Rome became a place of veneration for Christians.
02:19People came there to pray for divided families, for grieving parents, and for children called to faith.
02:25Saint Carine remains today the symbol of an indestructible family faith,
02:32of a conjugal love sanctified by Christ and of a courageous motherhood to the very end.
02:39In a world where faith sometimes weakens under the pressure of comfort or fear,
02:44Carine's testimony reminds us that true fidelity has no compromises.
02:50She teaches us that faith lived together, in the couple and in the family,
02:54becomes a force that nothing can break.
02:58Prayer to Saint Carine, prayer for persecuted families.
03:04Saint Carine, faithful wife, courageous mother and witness of Christ,
03:10You who kept the faith despite suffering and death,
03:14protect our families in the trials of the present time.
03:19Grant the couple the grace of unbreakable fidelity.
03:22to parents the strength to educate their children in the faith
03:25and to the children the courage to follow Christ.
03:29even when the world opposes it.
03:33Intercede for us, Saint Carine.
03:35so that our homes may become places of peace, prayer, and love.
03:41Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
03:52Saint Carine, forgive the challenge v
