00:00J.D. Vance slams critics for disgusting comments about his wife's religion.
00:05J.D. Vance responded to the backlash he's been receiving after declaring he hoped his Hindu wife, Usha, would one day convert to Christianity.
00:13At a Turning Point USA event in Mississippi on Wednesday, October 29th, J.D. Vance said he hopes Usha will eventually convert from Hinduism to Christianity.
00:23He replied on Friday, October 31st, to a now-deleted X post by Ezra Levant of Far-Right Rebel News.
00:31It's weird to throw your wife's religion under the bus, in public for a moment's acceptance by Groypers.
00:37Groypers refers to followers of white Christian nationalist Nick Fuentes.
00:41After calling Ezra's comment disgusting, he clarified on X,
00:44She is not a Christian and has no plans to convert.
00:48But like many people in an interfaith marriage or any interfaith relationship,
00:52I hope she may one day see things as I do.
00:55He said he was answering an audience question at an event held in honor of founder Charlie Kirk.
01:00When they met in 2013, both identified as agnostic or atheist,
01:04and they wed in an interfaith ceremony in Kentucky in 2014.
01:09Many found J.D. Vance's statements offensive.
01:12One user wrote on X,
01:14You publicly downplayed your wife's Hindu identity to appease a political base uncomfortable with it.
01:19Another user defended him, writing,
01:21There is nothing wrong with what he said.
01:24He and his wife have different beliefs.
01:26He respects her beliefs, but hopes that one day she'll see things the way he does.
01:30What is wrong with this?
01:31Sounds like a healthy marriage to me.
01:33The pair has three children they are raising in the Christian faith.
01:37J.D., who married Usha in 2014 and converted to Christianity in 2019,
01:43wrote that he was simply responding to a question.
01:45As people are curious, posts like this reek of anti-Christian bigotry.
01:49He added,
01:50He concluded,
01:51Yes, Christians have beliefs.
01:53And yes, those beliefs have many consequences.
01:56One of which is that we want to share them with other people.
01:58That is a completely normal thing.
02:00And anyone who's telling you otherwise has an agenda.
