The weekly Sabbath and God's other appointed times aren't just empty ritual. They are a shadow of greater spiritual realities and even of God's own character. People who exchange man-made tradition for God's moedim (appointed times) often tell the same story of finding peace and joy even though it requires discipline and can be hard at first.
Shabbat, Passover, Unleavened Bread, Firstfruits, Shavuot (the feast of weeks), Yom Teruah (the feast of trumpets), Yom Kippur (the day of atonement), Sukkot (the feast of tabernacles), and Shmini Atzaret (the eighth great day).
00:16It's so amazing as we've been in the rhythm now of going on our second full year of really observing the Sabbath and what a joy it is and how awesome it is to look forward to that every week.
00:27This is now being the third year that we've celebrated Passover, but I guess this was the first year that we fully participated in every feast.
00:36And just to try to be on those rhythms, you know, on the Father's rhythm is just, it's so awesome.
00:44It is, isn't it?
00:45It really is.
00:47When we hit Sukkot every year, for Jay, it's like Christmas used to be to most people.
00:52It's his favorite week of the year, you know, it's what he looks forward to all year long.
00:57And it's gotten to be that way for me over the years.
01:02There were some years we did a lot of work and that felt a little bit too much.
01:07Right.
01:08But the last couple of years have really been a joy, like just complete joy.
01:12And yeah, I can imagine when you're first coming in, we came in a long time ago with this, but I came in when we got married.
01:21And it's a little bit different, like knowing about some of this stuff and then starting to keep it like coming in as a family.
01:31I would imagine like all coming in at the same time.
01:34That has to be really exciting to experience.
01:38It really is.
01:39And it was challenging with the younger or not younger, you know, 19 and 14 are the ages of our boys.
01:44But to stop what they've done the whole life.
01:47But what we've been able to learn and grow from year to year and been able to experience it completely different each year.
01:54And the more that I study and the more I dig into it, I'm, oh, yeah, we can do this and we can do that.
01:59And I'm just already looking forward to next year to be able to implement some of the things that we've learned.
02:03So it's so wonderful.
02:06I love hearing that.
02:08And it's exciting to know that like your kids are adjusting.
02:12Yeah.
02:13Leading up to Sukkot and they were talking about how dumb it is that we have to sleep in the tent.
02:17Why are we doing that?
02:18And then they were out there every night just so excited.
02:21And it was so awesome.
02:24We see the same thing with the young people that we have.
02:26They're so excited to be there.
02:28And it reminds me of when I was a kid, we had a family reunion every year and we had a huge family.
02:35We would all be outside, like having a good old time.
02:38Like we thought we were like having the best time.
02:41Right.
02:41When we camp and we watch the kids, that's what I think about the most is how.
02:46And I think these kids are getting that same kind of experience and we bring stuff for them to play.
02:53They barely touch those things.
02:55Yeah.
02:55They just go exploring and just love it, you know?
02:59Yeah.
03:00So that's great.
03:02And the teenagers seem to be like they'll sit around the fire, you know?
03:06So I'm sure y'all are having that experience.
03:08Oh, absolutely.
03:10Yeah.
03:10It's been so good.
03:11It's been such a blessing.
03:13And it's so amazing the timing of what was going on in our life previously and the chaos that was the world.
03:22And then to get into his rhythm and the shalom that has, it's palpable in our home, you know?
