As Islamophobia increases around Europe, which country sees the most anti-Muslim incidents?

00:00How widespread is Islamophobia in the EU?
00:07Muslims represent the second largest religious group in the EU.
00:11Nearly one in two Muslims in the EU experience racial discrimination,
00:15especially in labor and housing markets in the five years before the survey took place.
00:20This represents an increase from 39% in 2016.
00:24Austria, Germany and Finland reported the highest rates of discrimination.
00:29In 2024, Europe was the second most significant hotspot for Islamophobic incidents.
00:35Globally, far-right campaigns were responsible for the largest category of incidents at 25%.
00:41Hate speech follows closely as the second most common occurrence,
00:45representing about a fifth of all incidents.
00:48Discrimination and verbal and physical assault share similar results,
00:52together accounting for more than a quarter of all incidents.
00:55In Europe, there is also a relatively high presence of online hate compared to other regions.
01:01In the EU, France and Germany were considered hotspots for Islamophobia due to heightened levels of anti-Islam activity.
01:09The high rate of incidents can be attributed to the resurgence of far-right political movements in countries like those two countries and Sweden,
01:17where anti-immigration sentiment often manifests as Islamophobia.
01:21However, Europe's legal protections against discrimination are working to challenge and reduce Islamophobic attitudes and policies.
