00:00Doha is hosting the Second World Summit for Social Development,
00:04a global gathering of leaders, experts and civil society.
00:08The summit is focusing on poverty, climate change
00:11and how technology is reshaping jobs and social protection.
00:15This is the first time a UN meeting of this scale
00:18is being held outside New York or Geneva.
00:20Delegates will adopt the Doha Political Declaration on Social Development
00:24calling for global action on social justice, inclusion and sustainable development.
00:30People escape poverty, they become migrants,
00:33they become socially exploited, abused.
00:36We see this in Europe as well.
00:37We see this and we think that in Europe we think that it's our responsibility
00:41not just to fight poverty and social exclusion at home with the people that live in Europe,
00:47but we have a responsibility towards our neighbouring regions, countries, continents
00:51and towards the whole planet I think.
00:55High-level forums are pushing leaders to turn commitments into concrete results
00:59while discussions are giving officials a chance to share ideas and practical solutions from around the world.
01:05We know that half of the population still cannot enjoy any sort of social protection.
01:12This is extremely dangerous and it's also extremely dangerous for peace
01:16because this creates a huge instability in the world.
01:20With the world gathering in Doha, there are high expectations for tangible outcomes.
01:24Youth groups, NGOs and activists are demanding decisive action to fight poverty and inequality.
01:30More than 800 million people still live in extreme poverty according to the UN.
01:34And officials say innovation will be key to turning commitments into solutions.
