Veteran actor Prakash Raj has made sensational comments about the National Film Awards jury process, creating a huge buzz in the film industry. Speaking as the Chairman of the Kerala State Film Awards Jury, Prakash Raj praised the Kerala government for its transparency and integrity in the selection process.
He revealed that the Kerala government had assured them that they would not interfere in the jury’s decisions, giving them complete freedom to choose the deserving winners. He added that such independence never exists in national awards, where “piles of files and too much external influence” are common.
Prakash Raj also said that in a system like Kerala’s, actors like Mammootty truly get the recognition they deserve. Under his jury leadership, Mammootty won the Best Actor award for his remarkable performance in Bhramayugam. Prakash Raj went on to say that young actors have a lot to learn from Mammootty, calling his performance “so detailed that it made me feel jealous.”
At the 55th Kerala State Film Awards, director Chidambaram’s “Manjummel Boys” bagged the Best Film, along with awards for Best Director and Best Screenplay. Mammootty was named Best Actor, and Shamla Hanja won Best Actress. The popular film Premalu, starring Naslen and Mamitha Baiju, won the Best Popular Film award.
