00:00Early Monday morning, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake rocked northern Afghanistan and the damage goes far beyond what you'd expect.
00:08The quake struck near Mazar-e-Sharif, killing at least 7 people and injuring around 150 more.
00:14But here's what makes this particularly devastating. It damaged the historic Blue Mosque, one of Afghanistan's most treasured architectural sites.
00:24The earthquake hit at a shallow depth, just 28 kilometers, which amplifies damage in populated areas.
00:31Tremors were felt across three neighboring countries, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.
00:35Here's the bigger picture. Afghanistan sits on two major active fault lines, making it extremely vulnerable to earthquakes.
00:41Most homes lack solid foundations and are poorly constructed, turning every quake into a potential catastrophe.
00:49This comes just two months after another earthquake in eastern Afghanistan that killed over 2,200 people.
00:54For a country already struggling with economic and political challenges, these disasters add another devastating layer.
01:02Why should this matter globally? Infrastructure vulnerability turns natural events into human tragedies.
01:07A lesson far beyond Afghanistan's borders. Respect and preparedness matter wherever you live.
01:12Where ever you live.
