00:01Who do you think you're kidding Mr. Hitler if you think old England's done?
00:08The Scots didn't like it very much, never mind.
00:13Dad's army to me is like the national treasure.
00:17Everything about it is funny, isn't it?
00:19It's an essential part of our lives, I think.
00:22And it goes across all the age ranges, of course.
00:24Children love it and their great-grandparents love it.
00:27I'll catch him, sir.
00:28What does he look like?
00:29We don't know, Frank. That's rather the point with spies.
00:32Stupid boy.
00:33David and Jimmy wrote some brilliant characters
00:35and it's interesting to see other people having a go at playing them.
00:39What each actor has done is retain something
00:41that is so specific to the original character, which is essential.
00:46Toby's performance is the perfect balance
00:50because it's absolutely nothing to do with Arthur Lowe
00:53and absolutely everything to do with Arthur Lowe.
00:56Captain Manry, the Morris dancers have booked the hall for one o'clock.
00:59There is a war on you, no vicar.
01:01It's very touching to see Frank Williams parading Captain Manry.
01:06It's absolutely amazing to be here, taking me back to the happiest time of my life.
01:11I'm glad there's a second actor playing Pike.
01:13You know, it's not mine, it's not me.
01:15I played it once and Blake's playing it now.
01:18Rather splendidly, I think, quite honestly.
01:20I'm a mare.
01:21Oh, cake!
01:23Bags in a pink one!
01:24It's not a remake, it's a new film using characters that exist in, if you like, literature.
01:30And then when you saw the cast, you were like, wow!
01:34So you have these accident-prone characters confronted with epic stakes.
01:40I think this gives the story enough difference in scale from the TV show
01:45to give us a good chance of making its own thing while at the same time
01:49honouring the idiots that we're all so fond of.
01:53When I read the script, I thought it was great.
01:56They'd got the idea, they'd got the characters, they got it right.
02:00They got it right.
