Five German nationals killed in avalanche in Italy's South Tyrol province

All five missing mountaineers from Germany have died in an avalanche disaster in the Ortler mountainous region in South Tyrol. The last two missing bodies of a German man and his 17-year-old daughter were located on Sunday by Italian rescue teams.

00:00Five German mountaineers have died after being struck by an avalanche in northern Italy.
00:07Three bodies had already been recovered on Saturday.
00:11Two men and a woman between the age of 30 and 50.
00:14Due to weather conditions the operations were suspended during the night
00:18and on Sunday rescue operations resumed and two other bodies were recovered.
00:23He probably had 17 years, but we are not sure because that was only told by the two witnesses who saw the avalanche.
00:33But what is sure is that father and son, we are sure.
00:39Two men survived the accident and were airlifted to a nearby hospital in Bolzano.
00:45According to a spokesperson for the mountain rescue team,
00:48there was actually no particularly high avalanche risk on Saturday.
00:52It is possible that the avalanche came loose because of newly fallen snow
00:56that had not yet sufficiently bonded to the ground.
