00:00This is a Danny Elfman Christmas Story.
00:07Are you ready?
00:10Twas the night before Christmas, and in my usual way I was creeping around in a sullen display of my own special version of holiday cheer,
00:21which some find off-putting and others find queer.
00:25For I wear a disguise I designed for myself, which looks somewhat like Krampus and a bit like an elf,
00:32and with my arms filled with presents to put under the tree, I saw in the shadows something looking at me.
00:38A small shabby creature with spikes on its head, showing long pearly teeth and its eyes glowing red.
00:45It was dark and misshapen with long spindly arms, which ended with claws that can certainly harm.
00:52Well, hello, I exclaimed. For what else could I do?
00:56I wasn't expecting an odd creature like you.
00:59Perhaps you could tell me what brings you this night to this shadowy corner where you gave me a fright.
01:05And with a voice that was raspy yet gentle and meek, the strange little creature began then to speak.
01:12Excuse my intrusion. Forgive my trespass. It's just that there's something I wanted to ask.
01:20Mr. Krampus, you see, I'm a fan through and through, and I'd like to apprentice and study with you.
01:26I have many talents impressed you will be. I can conjure up spirits and then set them free.
01:32I can make heavy objects float like they were bubbles. I can dance with the demons and make lots of trouble.
01:38And you kidnap bad children and cart them away in a sack that you carry where they're all on display.
01:44Oh, please let me help. I won't get in the way.
01:48For it's clear that he thought in my clever disguise that I was old Krampus, at least in his eyes.
01:56So I paused and thought carefully what I might say.
02:00Yes, I do all those things, but just not today.
02:04For this Christmas, a different idea I got. And you could be of help, though like it or not.
02:10I intend to surprise all the children, that's true, with the opposite of what you expect me to do.
02:16For the boxes I carry with the ribbons and bows will delight from their heads to their cute little toes.
02:22And the joy on their faces when they look with surprise, as their hopes and their dreams are revealed inside.
02:30The demon thought carefully about what I said. He rubbed his round belly and scratched his sharp head.
02:37Well, it's certainly not what I had in my mind when I came to help Krampus with his wicked design.
02:43But I came here to help, and so help it shall be.
02:47To begin with, start carrying these presents with me.
02:51And little by little he got in the spirit. And we quietly worked so that no one could hear it, until the display looked all perfect and fine.
03:00I can hear footsteps. Oh, there wasn't much time.
03:03It was then an idea popped into my head, so I gathered my thoughts. And here's what I said.
03:10Do you think you could climb up on top of this tree?
03:13Well, of course, he said simply. That's nothing to me.
03:17And perhaps you can play with some things at the top, with your magical powers that makes gravity stop.
03:24And juggle some ornaments round in the air, while dancing a jig with your demonic flair.
03:29Now excited, he took on this challenge with glee, and he gave quite a show for the children to see.
03:36For he not only juggled, but he sang and he danced, singing strange little melodies as if in a trance.
03:42And the children were stunned in the most pleasant way by this most unexpected demonic display.
03:48They clapped and they squealed with their childish delight, for they never had seen such a wonderful sight.
03:55And with hands in the air, they all spun till they crashed, and the songs made them silly, and everyone laughed.
04:02With a glorious whoop, he leapt to the ground. And before I could stop him, he gobbled them down.
04:11Merry Christmas.
04:18Merry Christmas.
