00:00Let's move to the Breeders' Cup Distaff, Scott, and in this race, you know, Torpedo Anna was the horse over the last couple years who's sort of been towards the top of the division.
00:08She's not in here now. We've got a big field that we have to move through pretty quickly, so let's start things out on the inside with Nitrogen.
00:15She's been the best of the three-year-olds. She stepped up and faced older in the Spinster most recently, but she was behind Jinjin.
00:22She ran well that day. She was drifting out a little bit. She just feels like one of the major players in here, though, stepping up, facing the older.
00:28She's been really consistent all year long.
00:31You don't see a lot of horses, fillies, mares, colts, geldings be very good on both surfaces, turf and dirt, when that's a very rare sign, and she's gotten faster on dirt.
00:42She might not look as good, but she's faster. She kind of has a little quirky. I think she's got to move forward in her still here.
00:49I think she's going to be, like you said, one of the major players.
00:52Sarak Rim is a wild card. Comes in from Argentina. We haven't seen her race since May.
00:57She'll add the Blinkers, and she's won four of her five races pretty impressively.
01:02She is one of those horses who has talent, but we just don't know the type of company she's been facing.
01:07It might be, it'll be Nacho Correia's last Breeders' Cup. He's retiring, heading back to his home country.
01:13It's interesting to me that he attracts Irad Ortiz. I think this horse is up against it, but Irad was on the next horse.
01:18We'll talk about Cliquo, who I think is in with a bigger chance, so maybe she's better than I think.
01:22Scott, you picked Cliquo on top when she won the Cotillion at 5-1 about a little over a month ago.
01:29She comes back here now. She'll step up and face older company.
01:32You were teasing us a little bit that you like her again in this spot. Where do you think she stacks up?
01:36I think she has a move forward in her, which is what she needs, but she probably needs two to win this race.
01:42She hasn't quite been fast enough to win this, but these three-year-olds, they blossom.
01:46These distances, they get longer. They can make a big move forward.
01:49She'll need it, but I'm definitely using her on all my tickets.
01:53Scylla is next. Scylla raced in the Breeders' Cup Philly in Mare Sprint last year.
01:57She was sprinting early in the year, and then she stretched out most recently.
02:02She's not been in the winner's circle for a while, since June of 2024 last year,
02:07but she's won a lot of pretty honest and pretty solid races in the mix, so I could use her underneath.
02:12I just don't know if I can get her to the win end.
02:15Yeah, I mean, to me, this is a mare that we've seen the best of.
02:19Very well bred. The dam was great. Great female family, but I think this is a little bit of a reach for her at this point in her career.
02:27Passing tiring rivals, hitting the board, I guess that's not without question.
02:31We're going to scratch the five Scottish lassie.
02:33The sixth, Aliza Verde, comes in from Japan.
02:36She actually raced in the distaff last year, and she was a pretty good fourth after a slow start.
02:40The problem is that the bulk of her work, Scott, is on the turf, so we really don't know how good she is on the turf.
02:47Yeah, you know, in that race last year, I thought it was an underwhelming addition.
02:51I don't think this is the strongest distaff ever, but I think it's definitely deeper than last year.
02:56So, Verde had seven horses, passed some tired horses.
02:59I think she'll need to run better than I expected to, to be a factor.
03:03Jin Jin has won two of her last four graded stakes races, both of them.
03:07She won the grade one spinster most recently, and what's been helpful for her is just getting into the race early.
03:14They've shown more early speed with her recently, and here she is holding off nitrogen, Scott.
03:18Do you give her a shot stepping up into the Breeders' Cup distaff?
03:22I think maybe she has to prove herself to me outside of Keeneland, where both of those graded stakes wins that you spoke of were.
03:28She had a favorable trip there, but I'm against the favorite in here who we'll talk about next,
03:33and I'm hopeful she's one of the ones that makes things more difficult for Seismic Beauty.
03:37Seismic Beauty has been really impressive.
03:39She's won three races by open lengths.
03:42She's earned big buyer speed figures and big speed ratings in doing them, but she hasn't really beat big fields.
03:49She hasn't had to be tested at all in any of those races.
03:52This is a huge field here, Scott.
03:53You just figure she's going to have to deal with a little more of a tough trip than she has had in these soft, soft wins.
04:00Yeah, soft wins.
04:01She's been fast going two turns, just not going to be able to walk on the lead in this field like she did in the Clemonel Hirsch, a grade one,
04:08where she was also on a rail that was good that day at Del Mar.
04:12Majestic Oops goes out for trainer Dan Ward.
04:14Majestic Oops comes off of a fourth place finish and just seems like an underhorse, 30-1 on the morning line.
04:20I had a tough time making a case for her in here.
04:22Right, you'll see some horses cutting back like this that are, sorry, I mean, I would prefer her on a cutback probably.
04:29Agreed.
04:30I'm looking at her, you know, her effort.
04:32This is a cool horse.
04:33She's been around for a while.
04:34Cal bred, 32 starts, 616,000, but a reach.
04:39And we know Dan Ward, the former assistant trainer for Jerry Hollendorfer out here in Southern California.
04:45Gun Song goes next up, another long shot.
04:47She did win the Beldame last time out, but she just hasn't been competitive at the highest levels against the top, top caliber fillies and mares.
04:55Yeah, she does draw outside the biggest speeds in this race, but her best efforts are right when she's up on the pace.
05:01And I don't know if she's fast enough to even be there.
05:03And if she is, I don't know if she's good enough to stick around.
05:06She's up against it to me.
05:08Horse like Dry Powder could maybe make life difficult for Seismic Beauty.
05:11Dry Powder wants to be forward.
05:12She's drawn towards the outside, so she has to be involved and try to press so she doesn't get hooked all that wide in here.
05:19Do you think she can, you know, compete with this group?
05:22Tough post, like you mentioned.
05:23That's the problem.
05:24This is another up-and-comer, kind of like Clequo, maybe even more pointing Arrow up because it's really moved forward the last couple.
05:31That tough post against taking on older for the first time is a factor as well.
