00:01My name is Catherine Constantinidis, a proud climate activist and human rights defender.
00:06I am from South Africa and a citizen of the world.
00:19Su imagen no solo inspira estilo, sino conciencia ecológica y compromiso con el planeta.
00:23Hoy en Nuestra Gente conoceremos a Catherine Constantinidis.
00:30¿Qué despertó tu conciencia ambiental?
00:34I think from a very young age I was always exposed to the environment.
00:38I came from a home where my parents taught us that looking after the environment was our responsibility.
00:44¿Cómo fue la transición de las casarelas a la lucha medioambiental?
00:48As a former Miss Earth, it was so important for me to make sure that I continue the work, the activism.
00:56Being Miss Earth, South Africa was not just about the title, the runway, the glamour, the fame.
01:01It was about what work could be done on the ground.
01:04It was an opportunity for me to use my platform and to continue to use my platform so many years later
01:10to drive the crisis of climate change.
01:13It's important for us to use our platforms and use our voice and to do something.
01:18¿Cuáles son los principales retos de ser una defensoras del medioambiente?
01:22Some of the main challenges around being an activist and environmental advocate,
01:27these include the challenges that people don't take the environment seriously.
01:32People have disconnected themselves from the climate crisis.
01:36People have not understood that every single person is impacted by climate change.
01:41We can look at issues that we really don't find sexy at all, such as waste.
01:45Waste is produced by humans.
01:48We are the problem.
01:49We will rethink the way that we live and the way that we're impacting this one precious place we call home, and that's the Earth.
01:56I can only hope and pray that we, in 2050, would have a world where we have really taken the climate emergency seriously.
02:09If we actually understood that each and every one of us, no matter where we are, we play a role.
02:15Those that live in the Amazon basin play a role as important that those that live in massive capital cities, such as Caracas, Johannesburg, in South Africa, in London, in countries the world over.
02:29Every single one of us has a role to play.
02:31There is enough for all forever.
02:33The commitment of Katherine with the planet shows that the true impact goes beyond the image.
02:40It is built with actions that make a difference.
02:42We'll see you in another opportunity to continue to meet our people.
02:45We'll see you next time.
