00:00So I wrote a letter to the members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame committee.
00:04As a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame since 1999,
00:08it has been one of my finest hopes to see Joe Cocker inducted into it as well.
00:13When I first heard him in 1969, I was very inspired by the sound of his incredibly raw and soulful vocal style.
00:20That became a watershed year in my life.
00:22That year I attended the Woodstock Festival, bought the first Led Zeppelin album,
00:27and heard Joe Cocker sing with little help from my friends.
00:31I thought Joe was the most powerful rock and roll interpretive male singer I had heard
00:36since first hearing the iconic early recordings of Ray Charles.
00:41In my opinion, no one has since come even close to him
00:45as one of the great primal rock and roll vocalists of all time.
00:48I feel very strongly that Joe Cocker should be considered for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
00:54I hope you will consider putting his name on the voting ballot this year.
00:58Sincerely, Billy Joel.
