00:00Ever wondered if you have another version of yourself in a parallel universe?
00:08Why in a galaxy full of planets haven't we found aliens?
00:14Encourage viewers to comment with their own wildest questions.
00:19Ever feel like the world is already figured out?
00:25Textbooks have all the answers.
00:27Right. We know why apples fall and how rainbows form.
00:34It can feel like all the great discoveries have been made.
00:38But what if the real magic, the stuff that makes life truly exciting,
00:45is hidden in the questions nobody can answer yet?
00:49Today, let's take a journey to the very edge of human knowledge.
00:54To the mysteries that keep our greatest minds up at night.
01:01Forget who invented the light bulb.
01:04We're asking questions so profound, even geniuses can only guess.
01:10And you're invited to guess right along with them.
01:14Let's start with the big one.
01:17Are we alone?
01:18You look up at the night sky and see a few stars.
01:22But the Milky Way alone has 400 billion stars.
01:27And there are at least 100 billion other galaxies.
01:32If every star were a grain of sand,
01:35the universe would have enough to fill millions of miles of beach.
01:40That's just what we can see.
01:43The true cosmos is likely far, far bigger.
01:48But here's where it gets really weird.
01:52Some scientists are now talking about the multiverse.
01:57Imagine countless other universes, each with its own physical laws.
02:03Some might pop in and out of existence in a flash.
02:08Others might be almost identical to ours.
02:12With another version of you.
02:15Yes, you heard that right.
02:18Quantum physics suggests that every choice you make
02:22could splinter reality, creating a new universe.
02:27In one, you aced that exam.
02:30In another, you became a professional astronaut.
02:35Some physicists say there are infinite universes.
02:39The boundaries of reality are being stretched further than ever before.
02:45Which brings us to a huge puzzle.
02:49If there are so many planets, so many potential universes,
02:54where is everybody?
02:56Our galaxy alone could have half a trillion planets.
03:02Even if a tiny fraction can support life,
03:06there should be millions of civilizations right here in the Milky Way.
03:11So, where are they?
03:14This is the Fermi paradox,
03:18named after the physicist Enrico Fermi,
03:21who first asked it back in 1950.
03:25If intelligent life is common,
03:28why is the universe so quiet?
03:32Where are the alien starships,
03:35the radio signals,
03:36the cosmic monuments?
03:39Some theories are a bit dark.
03:42Maybe advanced civilizations are hiding,
03:46afraid of cosmic predators.
03:48Or maybe they all self-destruct
03:51before they can master interstellar travel.
03:55Perhaps intelligent life is just an incredible fluke
04:00that only happened once,
04:02here on Earth.
04:04Or maybe we're just not looking for the right thing.
04:07What if aliens communicate in ways we can't even imagine?
04:14What if advanced life evolves to be microscopic,
04:19running entire worlds silently,
04:22hidden from our view?
04:24It's possible the smartest civilizations learn to be quiet,
04:28leaving a tiny footprint.
04:30Or what if the real aliens are not beings,
04:36but ideas themselves?
04:39Concepts that leap from brain to brain,
04:42evolving and shaping reality.
04:45The truth is,
04:47the universe is so much stranger
04:50and more wonderful than we can possibly imagine.
04:53The edge of knowledge isn't a boring list of facts.
04:59It's a thrilling, endless frontier.
05:03Right now, projects like SETI
05:06are scanning the skies for signals.
05:10New telescopes will soon search for signs of life
05:13in the atmospheres of distant planets.
05:16We're on the brink of discovering
05:19if we're alone or part of a cosmic family.
05:23But that leads to even deeper questions.
05:28What is consciousness?
05:30Why am I me?
05:32Is free will real?
05:35Is there a grand plan?
05:36Or are we just a cosmic accident?
05:40No one has the answers.
05:43And that's not a reason for despair.
05:45It's fuel for wonder.
05:48So here's my invitation to you.
05:52Don't just chase answers.
05:54Fall in love with the questions.
05:57Let your curiosity run wild.
06:00Because the more you learn,
06:02the more you realize
06:03how much is left to discover.
06:06Maybe the greatest miracle
06:08is that we exist at all
06:10with minds that can wonder
06:12about the cosmos.
06:13What's the biggest,
06:16wildest question you have

06:23Your question might just be
06:25the next great mystery
