00:00Welcome to the tuning blog video on the Alpine A92 GTS.
00:10If you need information on another vehicle, just send us an email, WhatsApp or leave a comment with your desired vehicle.
00:17The Alpine A92 GTS is the sporty version of the Renault 5 Edge Electric.
00:23An interesting combination, however, which promises a little more than it ultimately delivers.
00:28With the retro design of the R5 and soon-to-be R4, Renault is setting high expectations and keeping the Alpine brand alive, for which CEO Luca De Mio is also responsible.
00:41Unlike many competitors, Renault is not just keeping the Alpine as a better equipment line, but is also retaining its sporty identity.
00:47The A290 is technically based on the AR small platform of the Renault R5 Edge Electric, but serves as a technical pioneer and is designed for performance from the start.
00:59You can feel the differences straight away.
01:03The chassis of the Alpine is stable and precise, supported by a wider track, stiffer bearings and special hydraulic stops.
01:10The A290 GTS is powered by an electric motor called the 6AM.
01:17The same one that is also installed in the Scenic E-Tech Electric.
01:21In order to accommodate the larger engine in the A290, Alpine developed a special aluminum subframe.
01:28The optimized chassis, reinforced by a multi-link rear axle, provides additional grip.
01:33The brakes and wheels also set the A290 apart.
01:38Brake discs from the Alpine A110 and monoblock calipers ensure that the brakes do not lose their effectiveness even in extreme heat.
01:47The A290 runs on 19-inch tires with a width of 225, a solid base that also enables high cornering speeds thanks to the TRI and Tarkov vectoring system.
01:56Despite its weight of 1.79 kilograms, the small strome also packs a lot of momentum into the bends.
02:04In terms of technology, the A290 GTS offers a range of 364 kilometers according to WLTP with its 52K battery and a maximum charging capacity of 100 kilowatts.
02:16The battery can be charged from 15 to 80% in around half an hour at a DC fast charging station.
02:24This charging process takes just over 3 hours at an 11 kilowatts AC wall box.
02:30The A290 GTS is also equipped with V2L and will also be V2G capable from next year.
02:38This means that the vehicle can not only serve as an energy source for household appliances, but also as an electricity storage device for the power grid.
02:45A clever way for owners to earn a little money.
02:49A highlight in the interior is the red boost switch.
02:53This switch activates the full drive power for around 6 seconds.
02:58However, no additional power is released, but only the maximum power is accessed more quickly.
03:03The A92 GTS can be driven in the driving mode safe, which in Renault's case is normal in eco mode and sport, with the throttle response being much more direct in sport mode.
03:15The engine sound is surprisingly present and is enhanced by artificial combustion engine tones, which may give some people a touch of nostalgia.
03:23The chassis of the A92 is sporty and taut, but not unpleasantly hard.
03:31Even transverse joints and unevenness are easily negotiated despite the short wheelbase of 2.5 meters.
03:36The axle load distribution of 57% front and 43% rear ensures that the front wheel drive vehicle remains sporty in curves, even if a slight tendency to understeer is noticeable.
03:49The A290 accelerates to 100 kilometers per hour in 6.4 seconds and has a top speed of 170 kilometers per hour.
03:58Not exactly the sports car feeling you might expect.
04:04Visually, the Alpine A290 provides a special accent with its signature ex-daytime running lights, reminiscent of the rally headlights of earlier decades and standard in all versions.
04:16The infotainment system also features modern features.
04:19The 10.25-inch digital speedometer and the 10.1-inch touchscreen offer a playground for vehicle data such as G-forces and lap times.
04:30If you want, you can have various telemetry data displayed while driving.
04:35A hint of racetrack feeling, which is given a retro touch by the playful design and flying triangles on the display.
04:41The basic version of the A390 with 130 kilowatts, 177 horsepower is available for around 38,000 euros, while the GTS Vion with 160 kilowatts of power that we tested costs at least 44,000 euros.
04:59Those who opt for the exclusive premier version can even expect to pay almost 47,000 euros.
05:04That means a premium of around 12,000 euros over the Renault R5, without the sports car feel being significantly more pronounced.
05:13All in all, the A92 GTS leaves a mixed impression.
05:19Yes, the A92 is fun and Alpine manages to refine the driving experience.
05:25But ultimately, the model looks more like a souped-up R5-etch electric than a standalone Alpine sports car.
05:31Perhaps the upcoming A390 will bring the hope for sporting spirit.
05:37Rumors suggest that up to 600 horsepower could be launched on the market.
05:42Enough to cause quite a stir.
