NGC 602
00:10
Since antiquity, wreaths have symbolized the cycle of life, death, and rebirth.
00:16
It is fitting, then, that one of the best places for astronomers to learn more about the stellar life cycle
00:22
resembles a giant holiday wreath itself.
00:26
The star cluster NGC 602 lies on the outskirts of the Small Magellanic Cloud,
00:32
which is one of the closest galaxies to the Milky Way, about 200,000 light-years from Earth.
00:40
The stars in NGC 602 have fewer, heavier elements compared to the Sun and most of the rest of the galaxy.
00:47
Instead, the conditions within NGC 602 mimic those for stars found billions of years ago,
00:54
when the Universe was much younger.
00:56
This new image combines data from NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory and James Webb Space Telescope.
01:02
The dark, ring-like outline of the wreath seen in JWST data is made up of dense clouds of filled gas.
01:09
Meanwhile, X-rays from Chandra show young, massive stars that are illuminating the wreath,
01:15
sending high-energy light into interstellar space.
01:19
These X-rays are powered by winds flowing from the young, massive stars that are sprinkled throughout the cluster.
01:25
The extended cloud in the Chandra data likely comes from the overlapping X-ray glow of thousands of young, low-mass stars in the cluster.
01:34
The first 2nd of Chandra is showing that VOLTIL NOISES.
01:40
The last 2nd of our time is actually showing that NGC 1002 is centered on the cluster.
01:44
The next 2nd of our time is the 1st of that H-ray Observatory and the next 2nd of our time is the 453 of the Atlas.
01:46
A-ray Observatory and the next 2nd of our time, is the 154 of our time is an amazing energy selection.
01:48
The next 3rd of our time is the delimité project is the 24th of our time to maintain the refinement.
01:52
This is the 4th of our time for M Wam'am a week.
01:54
And the 2nd of our time is the location that you can see the 1st of the time is the same.
