00:01Welcome to the video from the Car Magazine Tuning Blog.
00:05Today, for once, we're not talking about a tuned car, but about a state-of-the-art military vehicle, the British Nuclear Submarine HMS Dreadnard.
00:14The HMS Dreadnard is described as the most advanced submarine in the world and is set to usher in a new era of submarine weapon systems.
00:21It belongs to a new class of nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines that the UK is developing to replace the aging Vanguard class.
00:32The youngest unit in this current fleet, the HMS Vengeance, is already 27 years old.
00:39On March 20, a symbolic keel-laying ceremony took place at the Bay System shipyard, where the HMS Dreadnard is being built.
00:46Ten years after the first cut in the steel, this event officially marks the start of construction of the submarine.
00:54Although huge sections of the boat have already been completed.
00:58With a length of over 150 meters, which is equivalent to around 14 buses, and a displacement of 17,000 tons, HMS Dreadnard is a real heavyweight.
01:10It is powered by a Rolls-Royce PVR-3 nuclear reactor, a turbo-electric drive and a pump jet system.
01:16Theoretically, the submarine can remain submerged indefinitely.
01:22In practice, its operational life is limited only by the supplies and the resilience of the 130-strong crew.
01:29For the first time, a British submarine of this type will have separate accommodation and sanitary facilities for men and women.
01:36A first for the Royal Navy.
01:39The armament is equally impressive.
01:4112 Trident's 2D-5 missiles with up to 144 nuclear warheads, 4 spearfish heavyweight torpedoes and other unknown weapon systems.
01:53HMS Dreadnard also sets new standards in terms of technology.
01:57A fly-by-wire control system called Active Vehicle Control Management, adapted from aviation, will electronically regulate course, depth, pitch and buoyancy.
02:06The exact details remain secret.
02:10Another highlight is the new adaptive lighting system, which simulates day and night conditions on board for the first time.
02:17This is intended to benefit the biological rhythm of the crew, also in areas such as the gym, sick bay and training rooms.
02:23HMS Dreadnard is the 12th submarine to bear this traditional name.
02:30A total of 4 of these new submarines are being built.
02:33In addition to Dreadnard, there are also HMS Valiant, HMS Warspite and HMS King George VI.
02:40Dreadnard is scheduled to be commissioned in India at the beginning of the next decade.
02:44Its service life is estimated to be at least 30 years.
02:47As always, you can find the link to read the article in our magazine in the video description.
