00:00Welcome to the video from the Car Magazine Tuning Blog.
00:03Today, we have a very special story about the Rolls-Royce Phantom,
00:08which took a real bath to mark its centenary.
00:12In true rock legend style, Rolls-Royce has steered a Phantom straight into a swimming pool.
00:18As an homage to a famous moment from the 1970s,
00:21when Keith Moon, the legendary drummer of The Ho,
00:24supposedly did exactly the same thing.
00:27Whether Moon really did steer the Phantom into a pool with his own hands
00:33or whether it's just a wild anecdote is irrelevant.
00:38In any case, Rolls-Royce is using this story as an opportunity
00:42to celebrate the Phantom's centenary with a hearty splash.
00:46For this event, they used a decommissioned prototype of the Phantom Extended,
00:51which was actually destined for the scrapyard.
00:53Instead, they simply rolled it into the pool at Tinside Lado in Platt.
01:00An iconic Arteco swimming pool right on the English Channel,
01:04which has itself made musical history.
01:08In 1967, none other than the Beatles posed for a photo there.
01:12The Rolls-Royce Phantom has had an impressive career over the last 100 years.
01:20Not only as a luxury limousine, but also as an integral part of pop culture,
01:25no other vehicle has established itself in the music world as firmly as this one.
01:30Rolls-Royce CEO Chris Brownridge sums it up.
01:33For many musicians, the Phantom was not just a car,
01:37but an expression of their identity and a symbol of non-conformism.
01:42A look at history shows that Elvis Presley owned a Phantom V as early as 1963.
01:48John Lennon, also the owner of a Phantom V, had his re-painted in striking yellow.
01:53The extravagant Liberate, on the other hand,
01:57covered his 1961 Phantom with countless small pieces of mirror,
02:02a glittering show on wheels that was later also seen in the film behind the Candelabra.
02:08Sir Elton John owned two Phantoms, a far in pink and white,
02:12which he later gave to his percussionists,
02:14and a Phantom for Six,
02:15which he spontaneously bought on the way to a concert in 1973.
02:19And the Phantom has long been at home in the world of hip-hop.
02:24In the music video for Drop It Like It by Snoop Dogg,
02:27for example, a Phantom sailboat can be seen in the background,
02:31a symbol of success and status that runs through numerous music videos.
02:36This close connection between Rolls-Royce and exceptional musical artists is no coincidence.
02:43Both strive for uniqueness, impact, and a lasting impression.
02:47It therefore makes sense that the anniversary is not just about presenting a special model,
02:53but also about re-enacting a piece of rock and roll history with a thunderous leap into the waves.
