00:00Metallic, an American heavy metal band, was formed in Los Angeles, California,
00:29in 1981 by James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich. The band is considered one of the most influential
00:36metal bands of the 1980s, formation and early days. Lars Ulrich, a Danish-born drummer, placed
00:43an ad in the recycler seeking metal musicians to jam with, referencing bands like Tigers of
00:48Pantang, Diamond Head, and Iron Maiden. James Hetfield, a guitarist, responded to the advertisement.
00:54The band officially formed on October 28, 1981, five months after their initial meeting. Ron
01:01Quintana, a friend of Ulrich, suggested Metal Mania and Metallic as names for a fanzine.
01:06Ulrich chose Metallic for his band, early lineup and first song. The initial lineup included Lars
01:11Ulrich, James Hetfield, Lloyd Grant, and Ron McGovney. They recorded Metallica's first song,
01:17hit the lights, for the Metal Massacre compilation album in 1981. Following the release, Grant and
01:24McGovney departed with Dave Mustin and Cliff Burton replacing them.
