00:00Fire Medical Dispatch, you're fine.
00:04Okay, and what's on fire?
00:07The land.
00:08Where you at?
00:09No, my house!
00:11No time for shoes.
00:12Where are your shoes?
00:13This is a mandatory evacuation order.
00:15Leave your homes.
00:16Hundreds of family pets bolted.
00:20Leah couldn't save Thomas, her cat.
00:23I was in the local hospital when these fires broke,
00:26where I'd been admitted because of some complications
00:29from brain surgery about 50 days earlier.
00:33And it was ultimately evacuated from the fire
00:35at four in the morning
00:36and walked into a scene straight out of hell.
00:40I knew that there were going to be hundreds of cats.
00:43There were going to be out there,
00:45many of them injured and burned.
00:47It didn't matter what it was going to take.
00:48I was going to save those cats.
00:50So I started following Shannon Jay
00:52when I was watching him with the rescues here
00:54during the Tubbs fire.
00:56And the man's amazing.
00:57I spotted this little critter last night
01:01and we set the trap seating
01:02and monitored it with a camera
01:04and then we got this little pooper.
01:06He would prove to be
01:08one of Shannon's holy grail cats.
01:10He had a microchip.
01:13Hopefully we're never going to go through this again.
01:15Oh my God, I mean, everything's burned.
01:26It made the Tubbs fire look like a walk through Disneyland.
01:29I was in that burn zone five days later.
01:32Government officials arrived in Paradise.
01:35And what we just saw at Paradise is just,
01:39you know, it's just not acceptable.
01:41The public began to ask
01:44where the official rescuers were.
01:46Hi, I'm Norm Ozine
01:47from North Valley Animal Disaster Group.
01:49I'm part of the evacuation effort up there.
01:52We don't see a lot of animals
01:54having problems up there.
01:56Hey, sweetie, there you are.
01:58God damn it, she's burned to shit.
02:01Hundreds of other rescuers arrived
02:03and were turned back.
02:04Everything is going according to a plan.
02:07There were forces at work
02:10that were trying to keep me out of there.
02:12And fortunately, that didn't work.
02:15There's a comment about thousands of pets missing.
02:18This misinformation gets out there all the time.
02:21There's at least 2,500 cats still out there.
02:24These cats are ingesting toxic water
02:26and a toxic soup of ash.
02:29We can't just leave them there.
