00:00Donald Trump's administration threatens to deport Abrego Garcia to Uganda, days after
00:06he was released from federal custody.
00:08Abrego Garcia was initially arrested in Maryland back in March.
00:12He was among over 200 deportees to El Salvador, where detainees endured poor conditions in
00:17the infamous Sekot prison and were detained without due process.
00:22This sparked concerns about judicial ethics under current immigration policies.
00:26Following his deportation, Garcia was returned to the U.S., charged with human smuggling,
00:31and recently released pending trial.
00:33Despite being out of custody, the recent developments have caught Abrego Garcia's legal team off-guard.
00:39An August 22 email mentioned potential relocation to Uganda within 72 hours, questioning the
00:46rationale behind moving him to a country he has no ties to.
00:50The 30-year-old's lawyer wrote,
00:51The government is attempting to use this case and this court to punish Mr. Abrego for
00:56successfully fighting his unlawful removal.
00:59Despite the low success of these motions, his attorneys assert, if there has ever been
01:03a case for dismissal on those grounds, this is that case.
01:07Protests erupted, highlighting the immigration system's inequities.
01:11Abrego Garcia's trial is scheduled for January 2026.
