Roma Belediye Başkanı Roberto Gualtieri, Ekrem İmamoğlu'nun, belediyecilikte iyi yönetimin bir örneği ve İstanbul Modeli'nin yaratıcısı olduğunu belirterek, İmamoğlu'nun hukuksuz bir şekilde hapiste tutulmasına şiddetle karşı çıktı. Gualtieri, İmamoğlu'nun tutuklanmasını kabul edilemez olarak nitelendirdi. Ayrıca, Gualtieri ve diğer Avrupa şehirlerinin belediye başkanları, İmamoğlu'nun serbest bırakılması için ortak bir çağrı yaparak, Türkiye'de demokratik ilkelere, hukukun üstünlüğüne ve belediye özgürlüklerine saygı gösterilmesini talep etti.
