00:00LA is raising the minimum wage for airport and hotel workers, but critics say $30 an hour is too much.
00:06Here's what's happening.
00:07In the lead-up to the 2028 Olympics, Los Angeles is preparing for the increase in tourism traffic by passing a measure
00:13to increase the minimum wage for hotel and airport workers to $30 an hour, up from $22.50.
00:18However, the measure states that this doesn't end after the Olympics. This will become the new norm.
00:23The pushback is led by members of the hospitality industry who created a petition to put the measure on the ballot in 2026.
00:30Leaving the ordinance suspended in the meantime.
00:32The president and CEO of the LA Chamber of Commerce says the city is ignoring countless small businesses that have expressed their struggles trying to survive after the pandemic.
00:41But on the other side, hospitality workers are saying, quote, it's not just a number, it's food on the table, it's rent paid on time, and it's a little less anxiety at the end of the month.
00:49But what do you think? Is $30 an hour too much? Too little? And how will it affect small businesses?
