00:00It was clear that at that moment in time the Chinese government was a fan of big
00:06data. That they were after all of it. And we suddenly realized that no one was safe.
00:12The Chinese were burrowing deep into some of our most sensitive critical infrastructure.
00:20Water unavailable, trains derailed, comms severed, power going down.
00:25Served as the director of the CIA. Served as the first US national cyber director.
00:32Former director of CISA. Every single day there's a war going on in cyberspace.
00:39Cyber attacks aren't just taking offline computers. You can take out power grids,
00:43poisoning water, food supply chains. This war's been going on a long time.
00:48Countries like North Korea, that are so poor they have to feed their people with grass,

01:08Because you don't know anymore who is calling you. You don't know who's emailing you. Because
01:12all of these things can be spoofed or phoked. When you think you're the safest, that's usually when

01:49Global cyber crime damages are estimated to cost the world some 10.5 trillion dollars
01:57by the end of this year.
01:59Of course the money, like you can make 10, 100, even a thousand times what you're going to make
02:04as a cyber security researcher.
02:06We have to be right 100% of the time. The adversaries only have to be right once.
02:11I never thought about the consequences, I just did it.
02:14Well that put me behind bars.
02:16The first thing that as a CISO you're going to hear is how did you let this happen?
02:20This is an unwinnable war.
02:22Who is going to defend us?
02:24Complacency is our biggest risk. The whole of society has a role to play in that.
02:29All that's necessary for the triumph of evil in the world is for good people to do nothing.
02:34This is not fate, it's choice.
02:39You're in the war room at midnight. Something's gone wrong.
02:44But we're not going to stop fighting.
