00:00From the get-go, your character, Lieutenant Soto, is the one who sees potential,
00:05pun intended, I guess, or not, in Morgan, and offers her the job to be a consultant.
00:10If you'd like my help, you should just ask me nicely.
00:14A woman is missing. Please, help us find her.
00:20What do you think it was that sparked that interest in her that others on the team didn't really see at first?
00:25I think that Soto saw herself in Morgan.
00:30I think someone took a chance on Soto, being an older woman in leadership,
00:36and she felt the need to—I think she's a person that goes by instinct.
00:40She saw that in her, and she found good use in it for what she's looking to do,
00:46which is ultimately solve crimes, you know?
00:48The fact is that she knows what she's doing.
00:50She's a really smart woman, totally unconventional,
00:52but she thought that she could find a lot of purpose in it,
00:56and so she went ahead and dove right in.
00:58And your character is truly a grounding presence in the series and among the team.
01:03Is there something that you most identify with in your character in Lieutenant Soto?
01:07I think I identify with that—a bit of a parental nature.
01:12You know, I have a child.
01:14I have a tendency to try to fix problems, you know,
01:18not to live in the problem, but to find a way to fix it, find the solution.
01:23I think that's where she and I have the most in common, that nothing is impossible.
01:27High Potential is based on a French series.
01:29Had you heard of it before being approached for this project?
01:32I hadn't heard of it, and then I started watching it.
01:35Once I got the job, I started watching it on Hulu,
01:39and I loved the French take of it, and I was really inspired to take my own approach to it.
01:47I loved the characters, and I could see what they were going for.
01:51And kind of speaking of that, are there any other series, I guess, like police procedurals
01:56or any series of the kind that you took inspiration from while developing your character?
02:01Mostly procedurals, you know, like the Law and Order—Mariska Hargitay and the Law and Orders,
02:06and the, you know, the roll-up-your-sleeves-and-let's-get-this-done kind of characters.
02:11I used to love Magnum P.I. and all the NCIS's, all those procedurals where—
02:17but there's a more—a bigger character presence in this that's a little quirky
02:21or that lends itself to the comedic nature of it.
02:25So that's what I love.
02:26And I love how willing Lieutenant Soto is to help Morgan find Roman throughout the show.
02:31Season 1 ends with the revelation that Roman is, in fact, alive.
02:37Hello?
02:39Morgan, I know where he is.
02:41What are you talking about?
02:44Roman. He's alive.
02:47What can you tease about what's to come in Season 2 regarding this search?
02:52The pursuit continues.
02:54There are, you know, teases to where he might be, if he continues to be, if he's close.
03:01But the pursuit continues is all I can deliver for you.
03:04So that you can watch it, guys.
03:05And I got to watch a couple—like the first few episodes of Season 2,
03:10which returns with the team's hunt for the game maker.
03:13First of all, David Giantoli killed it in that role.
03:16It was startling, that whole plot line.
03:19But do you think Soto will continue to be a grounding presence throughout this process
03:23and this search for him and overall in Season 2?
03:27For the game maker?
03:29Absolutely.
03:30Absolutely, because he's become a threat to Morgan's family, which is completely unacceptable.
03:35Well, what happens to throw that grounding presence off is that a new nemesis is introduced
03:42in the presence of Steve Howey.
03:44He comes in as the chief.
03:45So it becomes a nemesis slash maybe a sparring interest with Morgan.
03:55You know, so that gives you a sneak peek into her personal life and what happens
04:00and how she either elevates or falls apart in the presence of that kind of a conflict
04:05that she's unfamiliar with.
04:06Speaking of Steve Howey, what was it like welcoming him into the high-potential family
04:11and your experience working with him on set?
04:13It was a lot of fun and it continues to be a lot of fun.
04:15He's a terrific actor.
04:17He's very present and he fit right in in terms of what we are building around the show,
04:23which is kind of like a relaxed, serious people about doing serious work, but more than willing
04:30or needing to have fun in the process.
04:32I think the ensemble is truly what makes this show.
04:35Did you guys naturally sort of have this chemistry or were you working toward it?
04:39Like, can you tell me your experience?
04:40We naturally have this chemistry, a lot of mutual respect.
04:45The beginning of season two is more like a roll up your sleeves and let's get cracking.
04:50And there's more of everything, more Morgan vision, more people, more crimes,
04:55more suspicion, more mystery.
04:59And we all came in really prepared, knowing that the show is really well received.
05:04So now we feel an even bigger duty to our audience, to our fans, and trying to give them everything
05:10they expect and more.
05:12Awesome.
05:13A lot more Morgan vision this season.
05:15And that's such a fun part of the show, seeing it kind of go back and forth from what's in her mind
05:20to what's actually playing out on screen.
05:22It's really cool.
05:23Something that I kind of want to bring up that I think is fun, Jennifer Love Hewitt,
05:27who is one of the stars of 9-1-1, had said earlier this summer that she would love for 9-1-1
05:32and High Potential to do a crossover episode.
05:35Would you be open to this or are there any other like ABC shows or other shows that you would like to do crossover?
05:40Of course, a 9-1-1 slash High Potential, a 9-1-1 slash, I'm sorry, a High Potential slash
05:46Abbott Elementary crossover would be absurd, but I'm down for it.
05:51That's really fun.
05:53Yeah, I like that.
05:54Yeah, that would be really fun.
05:56And speaking of Abbott Elementary, I know they did a crossover with It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia,
06:02which Caitlin Olsen also stars on.
06:04Were you familiar with Caitlin Olsen's work and with It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia prior to working
06:09with her?
06:10You know, I became familiar with Caitlin's work on Hacks, and then I got the show, and then I started
06:15looking back because I know Always Sunny has been around forever, and it's always been compared to Scrubs,
06:19so I started checking her out, and I couldn't believe how I didn't know that much about her
06:25and how funny and talented she is.
06:28I just fell in love with her work.
06:31Subtle, funny, dramatic, you know, she really brings the good.
06:35She's got all of it.
06:36What are you most excited for fans to see of Lieutenant Soto in Season 2?
06:42I mean, I'm excited for the fans to see her relationship and how she deals with conflict,
06:50being in charge, and how her control is being challenged, and what it brings out in Soto,
06:57the person, me, the challenges that it brings to me as an actor, you know, and what it does
07:03to the storyline.
07:03And if you could use one word, I guess, to tease of what High Potential Season 2 is going to be
07:09like for fans, what would it be?
07:11Crazy.
07:13Just crazy.
07:14There's a lot going on.
07:15Shifting gears a little bit, I know you mentioned Scrubs and that you were recently announced
07:19as joining the cast for, or reprising your role as Carla for the reboot.
07:24How are you feeling going into this project?
07:25I'm psyched.
07:27I'm psyched.
07:27I'm going to be very busy in the next few months, but the reunion with the old school
07:34is very exciting.
07:36The writers, that's what the most exciting part about it is, is that it's going to be
07:40a huge reunion of everybody really trying to bring back or elevate what we did back in
07:46the day.
07:46I can't wait to see what's going to happen.
07:48It's a total surprise right now.
07:50We're all developing stories and stuff and organizing schedules, but I have so much faith
07:57in Bill Lawrence and the team and these actors, and I'm kind of putting myself in their hands
08:03to see what's up.
08:04That's awesome.
08:05And giving them my version of what I got.
08:07So how are you preparing in the meantime?
08:09I'm preparing to get a script to learn it and to get there.
08:14You know, I mean, that's kind of really all we have to go now.
08:17They work really hard at giving you something that's almost finished.
08:20Before you actually work on story and making changes.
08:24So that's, I'm waiting on story meetings and scripts and, you know, going to deliver
08:29myself and put myself in their hands.
08:32Awesome.
08:32Do you think there's anything you need to do to kind of like tap back into Carla after
08:37so long?
08:38Or do you think it will just be like an instinct?
08:40Oh.
08:42I really think it's going to be instinct.
08:45I really do.
08:46Yeah.
08:46Like, I don't feel, I feel more excited than nervous.
08:50You know what I mean?
08:51And I look forward to what they have to give me.
08:53And it's such a collaborative environment.
08:56You know, it kind of really spoiled me that way.
08:58You know, expecting that subsequently was presumptuous for me.
09:04But it's such a collaborative environment.
09:06And so much of what Carla became had to do with what I brought that I feel, I feel safe
09:11in that environment.
09:11Had you been in touch with the original cast since, like, it's this, I know you mentioned
09:16it will be a reunion.
09:17But had you guys kept in touch in the meantime?
09:19Not necessarily.
09:20You know, I did Zach and Donald's show a couple of times.
09:24We had a reunion a few years ago.
09:27We stay in touch and we follow each other on social media.
09:30But the second the announcement came out, I got a text from Zach.
09:34I got a text from Sarah.
09:35I heard from Donald.
09:37Bill texted me.
09:38So we were just kind of like connected that way.
09:41Everybody's really busy.
09:42I got a text from Sarah.
