The 23-year-old centre-back, who hasn’t yet featured this season, now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines, leaving David Moyes with a major headache at the heart of his defence.

00:22Brantwaite's injuries, problems stretch back to the end of last season.
00:26He missed the final games and was carefully left out of Everton's summer tour
00:31to the United States as a precaution.
00:35Having returned to full training ahead of the trip to Manchester City,
00:39he suffered a relapse on one session.
00:42Following speculation, a surgery was deemed necessary.
00:46It had now been successfully completed.
00:49Brantwaite will begin a structured rehabilitation programme
00:52under the club's medical supervision.
00:54It's a major blow for both player and club.
00:58Brantwaite signed a long-term deal over the summer,
01:01more than doubling his salary,
01:03and was expected to be a key figure in Moyes' defence.
01:07His pace, composure on the ball and left-footed distribution
01:09give balance to the back line
01:11and allow those around him to play with more freedom and aggression.
01:17Everton will now rely on Michael Keane and James Tarkoski,
01:20who have started the season solidly,
01:23but neither replicates Brantwaite's unique combination of athleticism
01:27and ball-playing ability.
01:29With Jake O'Brien filling in on the right,
01:32centre-back options are limited,
01:34and one more injury could force defensive reshuffles,
01:37potentially involving Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson,
01:42or even the versatile James Garner.
01:44For Brantwaite, the timing couldn't be worse.
01:48Just as he was returning to fitness,
01:50he now faces a long road to recovery.
01:53And with the World Cup later next year,
01:55he hopes on the international stage are also in question.
02:00Everton must adapt quickly.
02:01Moyes will need to find ways to absorb the absence
02:04of one of his most talented defenders,
02:06while hoping Brantwaite can recover fully
02:08and regain the form that made him a cornerstone
02:11of the club's plans.
