00:00In the north of Montenegro, nestled between the Bielacisa mountain and the Tara river,
00:15the town of Mojkavac has a long history with mining.
00:30The Briskovo area above Mojkavac was a famous silver mining area in the 13th century,
00:46where silver was mined and minted into coins known as the Grossi der Briskova.
00:53Mining was restarted in 1976 and continued for 15 years until 1991.
01:01During this period, Mojkavac enjoyed a period of economic prosperity.
01:06Full closure and rehabilitation of the tailings facility from this operation was not undertaken until 2010
01:13and some rehabilitation is still required to workings from the former operation.
01:23Since 2018, Tara Resources, a Swiss-based resources company, has been conducting exploration and technical studies for a new zinc mine at Briskovo.
01:36As a key priority, these studies incorporate leading global environmental practices
01:41and plan to address any outstanding environmental legacies from the former operations.
01:46The new Briskovo mine project aims to develop two open pit mines and to process ore to produce zinc, lead and copper concentrates,
01:55which also contain silver in a mineral processing plant located between the two pits.
02:04All mining and mineral processing waste will be stored in integrated waste management facilities in the valleys beneath the open pit mines.
02:12All facilities have been designed to leading global practices and to meet all Montenegrin and EU standards.
02:21Due to the hilly terrain of the region, the mining areas and the integrated waste management facilities will be largely hidden from Mojkavac,
02:29the national parks and planned ski fields in the area.
02:32Working with state archaeologists, cultural monuments in this area will be carefully and sensitively excavated before mining commences.
02:43Cultural monuments from the project area will be documented and made more accessible to a wider audience, enhancing the tourism potential of the area.
02:53Mining will first focus on the Juta Prilla Vishnitsa pit, an ore body in the north of the project area.
03:03Excavators and haul trucks will first remove layers of waste rock and place this in the valley downstream of the mine
03:10to form the basis of the Integrated Waste Management Facility .
03:14When the ore is accessed, it will be trucked to a surface stockpile for further mineral processing.
03:22Waste rock will continue to be placed on the IWMF.
03:26Mining of Briscovo pit will follow, using the same mining approach.
03:31A diversion channel will be built to divert the Rudnitsa mountain stream around the planned working area
03:37and back into the riverbed below the project area.
03:42The open pits and the IWMF will be progressively rehabilitated,
03:47with grasses and trees planted to blend in these areas with the surrounding environment.
03:56All stages of processing will be conducted in sound and weather insulated buildings to minimize noise and dust emissions.
04:03The processing of the ore includes the following steps.
04:10First, the ore is crushed and separated further into waste and ore in a step called dense media separation.
04:18The ore is then processed in a grinding mill to produce a fine paste or slurry.
04:25The metal bearing particles in the slurry are then separated from the waste particles,
04:32using a process called froth flotation, to produce zinc, lead and copper concentrates.
04:39These concentrates are then dewatered, filtered and stored under cover until ready for transport to markets.
04:47The concentrates will be loaded onto highway or rail trucks, sealed to prevent any losses,
04:55and driven to the port of bar for shipping to overseas smelters or driven to smelters in the region.
05:02After extracting metals from the ores, the remaining material, called tailings, is dewatered and thickened.
05:11The excess water is recycled through the mineral processing plant.
05:16The thickened tailings are then pumped into contained cells inside the IWMF surrounded by dry, stable waste rock.
05:26The tailings will further dewater and drain until it is dry and solid.
05:31The water from this drainage will also be recycled through the mineral processing plant.
05:37Water management is an important aspect of the project.
05:42As noted, water will be extensively recycled throughout mineral processing
05:47and also used to control dust from mining operations and on roads.
05:53All water from the project area will be collected in a large pond system,
05:58where a water treatment plant will also be constructed.
06:02The water treatment plant will be built to ensure that any water that is released into the river system
06:07will be treated to a high quality in line with international guidelines and local regulations.
06:15This water treatment plant will also capture and treat any contaminated water flowing from the old mining areas.
06:22The project will employ approximately 700 people during construction
06:29and a steady workforce of approximately 450 people during operations.
06:36Additional jobs will be generated in the region to provide services for the mine.
06:42Various training programs will be put in place to ensure that specialist skills are developed locally.
06:49All contractors engaged on the project will be encouraged to employ and train local personnel.
06:58In addition to local trades apprenticeships, university scholarships will be provided,
07:03thus ensuring the mine will be mostly managed by Montenegrins in the long run.
07:08The new Briscovo Zinc Mine is expected to continue the long tradition of mining in Briscovo,
07:14generate substantial employment and income for Montenegro and the northern region,
07:19and become the leading zinc mine in South-Eastern Europe.
07:23By applying best international environmental management planning,
07:27Briscovo Zinc Mine can be successfully developed, sustainably operated,
07:31and responsibly rehabilitated in this beautiful part of Montenegro.
07:53Briscovo Zinc Mine can be produced by the Russian Aranistian Monitoring series.
07:55Briscovo Zinc Mine could not be used for the designed,
07:58but it is generally recommended for the design of the operating system design.
07:59Briscovo Zinc Mine can be introduced for many years as well.
08:00Briscovo Zinc Mine can be presented from a San Antonio으니까 for the year before as well.
08:02Briscovo Zinc Mine is a very interesting community.
08:03Briscovo Zinc Mine is a beautiful company as well as a star starstruck.
08:05Briscovo Zinc Mine is a great tool that represents a large part of the design of the region.
08:07Briscovo Zinc Mine is a variable,
08:10Briscovo Zinc Mine can be using the front of the instrument design that contains an important part of the structure of the joys.
08:13Briscovo Zinc Mine is a strong and a large part of the solution of this model.
