00:25Using that information, members of the group placed more than $200,000 in wagers
00:30on his under-statistics.
00:33Rogier exited the game after just nine minutes,
00:36and those bets paid out, generating tens of thousands of dollars in profit.
00:42The proceeds were later delivered to his home, where the group counted their cash.
00:47As the NBA season tips off, his career is already benched,
00:52not for injury, but for integrity.
00:54As a result of this investigation, six defendants, including Rogier,
00:58are now facing conspiracy to commit bank and wire fraud.
01:02In a second case, Operation Zen Diagram,
01:05investigators uncovered a long-running scheme
01:08in which members and associates of several well-known
01:10organized crime families rigged high-stakes
01:13poker games across the country.
01:16These operatives included capos and multiple soldiers
01:19from the Bonanno, Gambino, Lucchese, and Genovese crime families.
01:24Bringing four of the five families together in a single indictment
01:29is extraordinarily rare.
01:31It reflects how deep and how far this investigation reached
01:34and the skill and the persistence it took to get here.
01:38That work uncovered a deliberate, technologically sophisticated operation
01:43designed to carry out their crimes.
01:46They used custom shuffling machines that could read the order of cards,
01:50barcoded decks, and hidden cameras built into tables and light fixtures.
01:54The organizers also enlisted well-known public figures,
01:59former and current NBA players and coaches,
02:03including Chauncey Billups, the head coach of the Portland Trailblazers,
02:06an NBA champion and a Hall of Famer,
02:10to make the games appear legitimate.
02:13Victims believed that they were sitting at a fair table.
02:15Instead, they were cheated out of millions.
02:18One victim in particular lost $1.8 million.
02:22In total, losses exceeded $7 million and continued to climb.
02:27And when people refused to pay,
02:30these defendants did what organized crime has always done.
02:34They used threats, they used intimidation, and they used violence.
02:38It's the same pattern that we have seen for decades.
02:42Traditional mob enforcement methods combined with new technology
02:46to expand the reach of their operations.
02:49Now, with the unsealing of today's indictment,
02:5234 individuals are facing charges, including robbery, extortion,
02:57money laundering, wire fraud, bank fraud, and illegal gambling.
03:00I want to commend the outstanding work of our detectives
03:04from the Joint Organized Crime Task Force
03:07and their dedication to these cases,
03:09especially Captain Ruben Pagan,
03:12Sergeant Chris McGuire,
03:14Detective Alexander Creamer,
03:17Detective James McCullough,
03:18and, of course, our Chief of Detectives, Chief Kenney.
03:21As part of these investigations,
03:23our members recovered and reviewed thousands of hours of video,
03:27conducted extensive surveillance on illegal gambling locations
03:31across the city,
03:32and executed more than two dozen search warrants
03:35on electronic records that revealed the true extent
03:38of this conspiracy.
03:40Once again, the work of our detectives,
03:43together with the FBI and the U.S. Attorney's Office,
03:45closed those gaps before they could widen further.
03:49The NYPD is proud to stand with each of you today
03:52as these cases represent the kind of partnership
03:55that defines modern law enforcement agencies,
03:58sharing intelligence, coordinating resources,
04:01and moving as one team.
04:03Thank you.
