Residents in eastern Mexico report crude oil spill polluting local stream
Residents in Alamo, Veracruz, eastern Mexico, are grappling with severe water contamination after a crude oil spill from a flood-damaged pipeline polluted a local stream. The recent torrential rains that caused landslides and rivers to overflow in eastern Mexico also damaged a Pemex pipeline. The leak originated from a 30-inch pipeline belonging to Mexico's state-owned oil company, which caused a spill along the Pantepec River, near Alamo municipality, one of the areas most affected by flooding in Veracruz. Drone footage showed oil waste and residue floating on the water's surface as cleanup workers attempted to contain the spill on Oct. 22, 2025.
