Tensions soared in the NYC mayoral debate as Zohran Mamdani faced pointed questions about his rhetoric against Israel and concerns from the Jewish community. Mamdani insisted he wants to represent “Jewish NYers who may have concerns,” but Andrew Cuomo wasted no time mocking him, sarcastically dubbing him the “savior of the Jewish people.” The heated exchange highlighted deep divisions over foreign policy, identity, and representation, leaving the audience stunned and the debate buzzing with controversy.

This moment became one of the most explosive and talked-about segments in the final NYC mayoral debate.

00:00I look forward to being a mayor for every single person that calls this city home.
00:08Not just those who voted for me in the Democratic primary,
00:11not just those that vote for me in this general election, but all 8.5 million New Yorkers.
00:16And that includes Jewish New Yorkers who may have concerns or opposition
00:19to the positions that I've shared about Israel and Palestine.
00:23You know, just a few weeks ago, I was on the M57, the slowest bus in New York City.
00:27And as I was seated there, there was a speech therapist who was sitting next to me.
00:31She told me that she was Jewish.
00:33She said that her daughter was a huge fan,
00:35but that she was not yet decided on who she was going to vote for.
00:38And she shared to me about her fears in this city, about rising antisemitism.
00:43And I told her what I will tell New Yorkers today,
00:45which is that I will be the mayor who doesn't just protect Jewish New Yorkers,
00:49but also celebrates and cherishes them,
00:51who doesn't just increase funding to hate crime prevention programs by 800%,
00:55who doesn't just ensure that the NYPD are outside of synagogues and temples on the High Holy Days,
01:00but also actually delivers on the implementation of the Hidden Voices curriculum in our school system,
01:05so that children in this city learn about the beauty and the breath of the Jewish experience
01:10right here in the five boroughs.
01:11You know, I've heard from Jewish New Yorkers about their fears about antisemitism in this city.
01:18And what they deserve is a leader who takes it seriously, who roots it out of these five boroughs,
01:23not one who weaponizes it as a means by which to score political points on a debate stage.
01:28I think there is room for disagreement on many positions and many policies,
01:37but I also want to correct the record.
01:39I have never, not once, spoken in support of global jihad.
01:44That is not something that I have said, and that continues to be ascribed to me.
01:48And frankly, I think much of it has to do with the fact that I am the first Muslim candidate
01:52to be on the precipice of winning this election. Now, all the same, Curtis,
01:59I do still want to be the mayor that will keep your sons safe,
02:05that will keep every single New Yorker safe.
02:07And it is my job to not only deliver on that commitment,
02:10but also to ensure that New Yorkers feel it every single day that they live in this city.
02:22And India app now.
