Strong And Slight Arc Putting Golf Tips

00:00Hi, Dan Grieve here, Head Professional of Web & Golf Club, talking about putting arcs.

00:08It's a question I get asked a lot, should I have a slight arc or should I go straight back,

00:13straight through, or should I have a slightly more exaggerated arc? And really there is no

00:17answer to that. It's not that one is better than another. We've all got our slight tendencies,

00:22some will be straighter, some will be more in-to-in. But it's important you don't get

00:27too far outside the line or too far in. So for example, I put the string here just to give you

00:32a nice visual of where straight is. So if I was to go down a string, I would have a perfectly straight

00:37to straight stroke, which really, once you start hitting it more than a couple of inches, it's

00:41very difficult to have a straight to straight stroke. You need to start coming in at some point.

00:46So if your stroke is going out here, that obviously is outside the line, okay, you're going to tend to

00:51pull your putts. If your putter starts coming in way too much on the inside, again, you're going to

00:56have a job trying to square that face up. So a slight arc is nice. Okay, even a little bit more

01:03is fine like that, but let's not bring it round too much or have it going outside the line too much.

01:08So my stroke is a little bit more in-to-in. So you'll see my stroke coming slightly inside.

01:12I've got the string down here. That gives me a little bit of a guide as to how much I'm coming in.

01:19And let's make sure as well that we really do match the style of stroke that you have to the putter

01:25you use. So this is a heel balance putter. That means the toe is hanging down. The toe

01:30releasing this way is going to help me square the putter up. If I was to use a face balance

01:34putter with my stroke, I would tend to push the putts because face balance putters do not want

01:39to swing as much in the toe. So there's no right or wrong. You've got out there and do a bit of

01:43practice yourself and find out which putter suits you best, depending on your arc.
