00:48commercially available mobile phone the motorola dyna tc hit the market it was huge like literally

00:56huge it weighed over two pounds and cost about four thousand dollars people referred to it as the

01:03brick and while it may look hilarious now back then it was revolutionary for the first time you could

01:10make calls on the go even though the battery life only lasted 30 minutes fast forward to today and

01:16we've got phones that are more powerful than the computers that send astronauts to the moon

01:20incredible right but the story doesn't stop there before the iphone there was another key player the

01:30ibm simon released in 1994 it was the first device that looked a little bit like the smartphones we use

01:38now it had a touch screen could send emails and even had basic apps like a calendar this was the true

01:45beginning of smartphones it was ahead of its time but it didn't quite catch on why well the technology

01:55still had a long way to go in 2007 the game changed forever steve jobs walked onto a stage and introduced
