00:09that he returned US$620 million of unutilized funds from a donation to the source with Bank
00:16Negara's approval. Najib said the funds he received were used for political and social
00:21welfare purposes, and he stressed that he did not hold any offshore accounts. He said he would
00:26probably be the only alleged corrupt politician who returned the so-called gratification.
00:32He added that he would probably be the first in recorded history to have announced the so-called
00:35ill-gotten money to the Bank Negara Governor. He said several individuals linked to 1MDB,
00:41including former Chief Executive Officers, Aid and General Counsel, had carried out questionable
00:46transactions without facing legal consequences. He said such individuals were treated as credible
00:52witnesses despite their alleged misconduct. He said he was not asking for immunity and he was
00:58only seeking equality and the right to be treated like any other individuals. Earlier, the court
01:04was informed that the defense had compiled seven volumes of written arguments for the case, which
01:09will be submitted over the span of nine days. Najib is facing four counts of using his position to
01:15obtain 2.28 billion ringgit gratification from one MDB's funds and 21 counts of money laundering
01:22involving the same amount from February 2011 to December 2014.
