00:00This is Volvo's new electric van, and if it's a Volvo, I'm going to say it's going to be pretty
00:05damn good. I think it's definitely worth considering. Even for a large SUV, this could
00:10in fact be a better option. Hello, my friends. Great to see you. Thank you for watching. Welcome
00:15to the channel. And as you guys know, I am quite a fan of Volvo, the company, and in particular,
00:20their CEO. He is saying that Volvo is going EV only as fast as they possibly can. In fact, by
00:262026, it's pretty much the end for gasoline and diesel for Volvo. Volvo are changing in a lot
00:34of ways. In fact, Volvo have said no more front-wheel drive. Front-wheel drive is not a good idea in an
00:39EV. It's worth listening to them as well, because Volkswagen Group and Hyundai Kia have also said
00:45exactly the same thing. Of course, Tesla doesn't have any front-wheel drive EVs either. So this
00:51new Volvo electric van, is it actually any good? Well, for one, it won't be front-wheel drive. Now,
00:57when I was growing up as a kid, we had a Toyota Tarago. That thing was front-wheel drive. It had
01:04very minuscule amount of power, but it would still skid the front wheels. I remember when I was learning
01:09to drive, that's the car I had to learn to drive in. It was a stick shift. It was a manual. It was a dog
01:14to drive. Having to start that thing on a hill, you would spin those tires. Anyway, front-wheel drive
01:21wasn't the best. Now, personally, I think if I had learned to drive this Volvo van or large car,
01:30it would have been so much easier. But at the same time, I probably wouldn't have learned a lot of the
01:34skills that I was forced to learn by driving what was a pretty old dog of a car. Anyway, Volvo is
01:40introducing its first people mover. It's the electric EM90. Have we seen this car before it's
01:48meant to be released? Well, China's government basically requires this information, and it was
01:53leaked from them. Anyway, the EM90 is officially scheduled, slated for its reveal on the 12th of
01:59November. But this is what it looks like. And we now know how heavy it is, how big it is. It's not as
02:06heavy as I thought it would be. It's a seven-seater, and it weighs 2,760 kilograms. So yeah, it's still,
02:15you know, nearly 6,000 pounds. But it's got a big battery pack, and it's a really big vehicle. I think
02:21that weight is not too bad. Anyway, how big actually is it? Well, it is big. It's 5.2 meters long. It's
02:305,206 millimeters. And it's also quite wide. It's 2,024 millimeters wide. So over two meters wide.
02:39It's nearly two meters tall, 1,860 millimeters tall. Wheelbase is quite big as well, 3.2 meters or 3,205
02:48millimeters. That's identical to the Geely-owned brand Zika. They have a van called the 009,
02:55which looks not bad. In my opinion, this Volvo looks better. But anyway, Geely are bringing the
03:02brand Zika to Europe, and I believe the United States as well. I believe also Australia. So
03:08that's good news. You have a couple of choices here. This also means that it's a similar size to
03:12the LDV Mifa. The Mifa 9 is on sale in various countries inside China. It's on sale. Plus, it
03:19actually is on sale here in Australia as well. But it's quite expensive. It's more than $100,000.
03:24So the Volvo van that you're looking at right here, the people mover, it has a single rear motor in the
03:32cheaper specification. I believe there's an all-wheel drive version as well coming. We don't
03:36know the details on that yet. But anyway, the single rear-mounted motor has 200 kilowatts, about 280
03:41horsepower. And that gives it a speed, a total maximum performance speed of 180 kilometers an hour. We
03:48don't know what speed it does, 0 to 62 or 0 to 100 kilometers an hour yet. Anyhow, outright performance is
03:53probably not the goal with a vehicle like this. Efficiency, I think, matters more. How much range
03:58can you get? Now, I mean, the sister car here, the Zika 009, I think looks quite, in fact, like one of
04:09the ugliest cars ever invented in human history, which is surprising considering Zika's other cars
04:14look great. Anyway, it has, well, we have some details on it. It has 400 kilowatt of power and over 800
04:21kilometers of range. So it looks as though the Volvo is using exactly the same motor, but we only
04:27have specifications for the rear-wheel drive motor. So the all-wheel drive version would have the same
04:31thing, right? They'd basically just use the same exact motor that they've used in the rear, in the
04:35front as well, giving it about 570 horsepower. And a range of 800 kilometers is amazing. I mean,
04:44real-world range, maybe looking at 600, 650, but either way, that's absolutely staggering.
04:49So how big are the battery packs that come in this vehicle? Well, the smaller battery is 116 kilowatt
04:56hour pack. The bigger is a 140 kilowatt hour pack. The thing is, right, the range is staggeringly good
05:05for the smaller battery pack. 116 kilowatt hour pack in a vehicle this size, it's a massive car.
05:10702 kilometers of range, right? That's the CLTC cycle. So you're probably looking at closer to 600
05:15kilometers real world. But the bigger battery, the 140 kilowatt hour pack, that gives it 822 kilometers
05:22of range. So 700 kilometers of range in the real world for a car this size, that's basically the
05:27same as petrol, diesel, gasoline versions of vans. In fact, it's more than some of them.
05:34Amazing. You know why it's so amazing? This is the reason.
05:37It uses CATL's new Chiron battery, which has got a very, very high energy density,
05:44and it's an incredibly impressive battery technology. So this is the kind of battery
05:49you're going to see. I think this is a car that if you're looking at a people mover,
05:55an electric people mover, this is probably the first thing I'd be looking at. Either the Zika version
06:00or the Volvo version. I think the Volvo version will look a lot nicer. But anyway, you have a couple
06:05of choices here. Now, the torque of the all-wheel drive version is massive as well. It's got 686
06:11newton meters of torque. This means that it is insanely fast. I mean, imagine driving a car this
06:17big, zero to 100 kilometers an hour, 4.5 seconds, right? You could beat, you could probably beat most
06:25Ford Mustangs off the line. Most of them can't do 4.5 seconds, zero to 62 miles an hour. They're zero to
06:30100, 4.5 seconds for a big people mover. Incredibly, the drag coefficient as well is
06:35amazing, 0.27 plus the charging speed. Now, here's the other big advantage of this new battery
06:42technology. It charges from 10 to 80% in only 28 minutes. Now, in terms of the size, it's basically
06:50exactly the same size as its Geely counterpart, which is why I'm going to assume, seeing as the
06:56cars are both made in the same place, almost the same, basically the same factory, with the same
07:01exact size cars, same motors, same battery packs. And that means that it's likely to get the CATL
07:07Turing battery as well. Now, another nice feature that these EVs have is it has high performance air
07:13suspension with double wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension, which means, I mean, you could
07:19potentially raise or lower the vehicle depending on the kind of driving you're doing. So let's say you're
07:24just driving on the freeway on the highway and you want to get more range. You could potentially lower
07:28the car and get more range in that situation. But then if you had to drive over a driveway or maybe
07:33just a little bit of off-road minor, you know, clearly minor off-road driving, you could also then
07:38raise that air suspension. I think that's cool. Guys, this might be the most impressive Volvo vehicle
07:44we've seen so far. Now, the EX30 is excellent. It's a small crossover electric vehicle. Very, very
07:49impressive. But personally, considering the range, the charging speed, the power, and the overall OEC,
07:58the CD of this vehicle, I honestly think this is the most impressive electric van we've seen anywhere
08:05in the world so far. I'm really excited to see these made. I'm amazed. I mean, the difference between
08:12the old crappy Toyota Tarago that I had growing up versus something like this is just, it's like
08:17comparing a supercar to a piece of junk. Anyway, let me know your thoughts in the comments.
08:22Thanks for watching.
