00:00Think of the viruses. You can neither call them living nor call them non-living.

00:05They stand at the boundary and they give you beautiful insight into how the material itself turns into consciousness.

00:14We have, as human beings, we have just very freshly appeared from this soil.

00:19Viruses are our great-great-great-grandfathers.

00:24They were there long before we were here and long after we are gone

00:28due to climate change or nuclear war, viruses would still be here.

00:33But it is very difficult to say whether a virus is a living thing or a non-living thing.

00:37It shows properties of both.

00:42Similarly, when you look at several organisms that are single-celled,

00:46it becomes very difficult to say what is going on.

00:50Is it living? Is it dead? What is the whole thing doing?

00:54And there you come to see, oh, this is how that starts, which we call as life.

01:00It's not the work of some god who keeps sending down souls.

01:03And then the souls come here and then make a mess of the planet for a while.

01:08And then they check out and return to God.

01:10It's a fantastic story. It's a fairy tale.
