Lesson 2 – Excuses for Not Reading the Qur’an with Understanding – Part 1 (14m)

Why do many Muslims avoid studying the Qur’an deeply? In this lesson, Dr Naik exposes the common excuses people make — such as language barriers, lack of time, or fear of misinterpretation — and refutes them logically and scripturally.

01:56he can converse with the family members
01:59later on he may learn the language of the society
02:03so that he could communicate with the people around him
02:07he may learn the language in which he is educated
02:13almost all the human beings
02:16they at least know two or three different languages
02:21some know three to five languages
02:24some are linguists
02:28but most of the human beings almost all
02:31they at least know two to three different languages
02:35isn't it a requirement that we should know the language
02:40in which our creator Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
02:43has revealed his last and final message the glorious Quran
02:47isn't it a must that we Muslims should learn Arabic as a language
02:52to understand the Quran
02:56I know that it is much easier for a person to learn a language during childhood
03:05but age is never a barrier to prevent any human being from doing any good work
03:13and that reminds me of the example of Dr Maurice Boucail
03:17many of you may be aware that Dr Maurice Boucail was a very famous surgeon and scientist
03:24who was given the French Academy Award in Medicine
03:28and Dr Maurice Boucail
03:32he was selected for doing research on the mummy of Manapta
03:39that is the mummy of the body of Pharaoh
03:44who was there at the time of Moses
03:46peace be upon him
03:47which is mentioned in the Bible
03:49and after he did research on this mummy of Manapta
03:56which was found in the Valley of Kings
03:58he being a Christian
04:01he was aware of the background mention of Moses peace be upon him in the Bible
04:09and he was aware that the Pharaoh at the time of Moses peace be upon him
04:17when he followed Moses peace be upon him
04:20when he parted the sea
04:21and when he followed him
04:22the sea again came back to normal
04:26and the Pharaoh had drowned
04:28but when he went to Saudi Arabia
04:31there he learnt
04:34that the Muslims told him
04:36that the Quran already mentions
04:39in Surah Yunus
04:41chapter number 10
04:42verse number 92
04:44that
04:45Allah says
04:47we shall save
04:48the body of the Pharaoh
04:50as a sign for posterity
04:52Dr Maurice Boucail
04:54he was shocked
04:56that how does this book
04:58the glorious Quran
04:591400 years back
05:00says
05:01that
05:02Almighty God
05:03will save the body of Pharaoh
05:05as a sign for posterity
05:06as a sign for humankind
05:08and this is not mentioned in the Bible
05:12so that instigated him
05:14to read the translation of the Quran
05:16and after he read the translation of the Quran
05:19he was so much inspired
05:21that he wanted to understand the Quran better
05:23so at the age of 50
05:25he learnt Arabic as a language
05:27to understand the Quran better
05:30imagine a non-Muslim
05:32a Christian
05:33to understand the Quran better
05:35he learnt Arabic as a language
05:37and after he does research
05:39he says
05:40that
05:41the scientific points mentioned in the Quran
05:44are in perfect conformity
05:46with what modern science has discovered
05:49and unfortunately
05:51there are many things in the Bible
05:53which do not conform with modern science
05:56and after doing further research
05:59he writes a book
06:00the Bible
06:02the Quran and science
06:04which became very famous
06:06the point to be noted here is
06:09imagine a person of the age of 50
06:12being a non-Muslim
06:14being a Christian
06:16to understand the Quran better
06:17he learns Arabic as a language
06:19so we Muslims
06:25the best excuse we have
06:27is that
06:28we don't know Arabic as a language
06:30I do not expect every Muslim
06:33to be as enthusiastic as
06:36Dr. Morris Bukail
06:38that they'd like to learn Arabic at the age of 50
06:42but even
06:44if a Muslim
06:46does not know Arabic as a language
06:48yet he has got no excuse
06:50because
06:51he can yet
06:52read the translation of the Quran
06:55and Alhamdulillah
06:58the Quran
06:59has been translated
07:00into most of the major languages of the world
07:03Maulana Abdul Majjid Dariya Badi says
07:09the Quran is the most untranslatable book in the world
07:15the language of the Quran is so pure
07:18it is divine
07:20it is noble
07:21it is unsurpassable
07:23it is intelligible
07:25and that is the reason
07:27it makes the Quran
07:29the most difficult book to translate
07:32not only does it make
07:34it the most difficult book to translate
07:36in fact
07:37it is a book
07:38which is impossible to translate
07:41yet Alhamdulillah
07:43there are many scholars
07:45who have spent several years
07:47who have spent decades
07:49in doing research
07:51and have translated
07:53the glorious Quran
07:55into
07:56most of the major languages of the world
07:59even though I agree
08:01that no translation
08:03is 100% perfect
08:05because a translation
08:07is a human handiwork
08:09and the Arabic Quran
08:11is the word of Almighty God the Creator
08:14but in spite of that
08:16these translations
08:18at least
08:19they let us understand
08:21the basic message of the Quran
08:24the basic message of our Creator
08:26Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
08:29we Muslims
08:32we give excuses
08:33for not reading the translation of the Quran
08:36saying
08:37we are very busy
08:40we are very busy in our studies
08:42we are busy in our profession
08:44we are busy in our business
08:46most of us
08:48most of us
08:49we have spent
08:51decades
08:53reading
08:54and memorizing
08:55volumes of books
08:56in schools
08:57and colleges
08:58as well as universities
09:00just to acquire a degree
09:03don't we have the time
09:05to read
09:06the message of our Creator
09:07Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
09:08how much time does it take to read the Quran
09:13our beloved prophet
09:15our beloved prophet
09:16Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
09:17said
09:19that anyone
09:21who reads the Quran
09:22in less than three days
09:23he has not understood the Quran
09:25that means
09:26if we read the Quran
09:27with concentration
09:28it will minimum
09:30take
09:31a person three days
09:32minimum
09:34if you read a bit slowly
09:35it may take five days
09:36five days
09:37if you read
09:38one juz
09:39one part a day
09:40it will take you one month
09:41to read the Quran
09:44the degree that we acquire
09:46in the colleges and universities
09:49it may
09:50or may not
09:51help you in this world
09:53there are hundreds
09:54and thousands of graduates
09:55and post graduates
09:56that I know
09:57that are jobless
09:58and the education
10:00you acquire
10:01in schools
10:02colleges and universities
10:03if it does not
10:04get you closer
10:05to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
10:06if it does not
10:07get you closer
10:08to your Creator
10:09Almighty God
10:10then
10:11this education
10:12is useless
10:13for the hereafter
10:15so the education
10:16that you get
10:17in the colleges
10:18in the schools
10:19in the universities
10:20may or may not
10:21help you in this world
10:22and if it does not
10:23get you closer
10:24to your Creator
10:25Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
10:26it is useless
10:27in the hereafter
10:28but as far as the Quran
10:29is concerned
10:30Allah says in the Quran
10:32in Surah Baqarah
10:34chapter number 2
10:35verse number 1 and 2
10:37Alif Laam Meem
10:39Zalik Al Kitab
10:40La Rai Bufi
10:41Hudha Lil Mutaqeem
10:42Alif Laam Meem
10:44this is a book
10:45of guidance
10:46without doubt
10:47for those who have taqwa
10:48for those who fear Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
10:50that means Allah
10:51is giving us a promise
10:52that this book
10:53is a book of guidance
10:54and it will surely benefit you
10:57in this world
10:58as well as the hereafter
11:00Allah says in the Quran
11:02in Surah Qahaf
11:03chapter number 18
11:04verse number 54
11:06that this is a book
11:10which mention in detail
11:12many similitudes
11:14many similitudes
11:15in which is benefit for humankind
11:18but men
11:21is in most things contentious
11:24Allah repeats a similar message
11:27in Surah Az-Zumur
11:28chapter number 39
11:29verse number 27
11:31that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
11:34has mentioned in detail
11:37many similitudes
11:38so that men may receive admonition
11:43if you read the Quran
11:47it will surely benefit you
11:49in this world
11:50as well as the hereafter
11:52you read the Quran
11:54if you don't know Arabic
11:56read the Quran
11:58in the language you understand
12:00if you understand English
12:02read it in English
12:03the language you understand the best
12:05if you understand Urdu
12:07read it in Urdu
12:08if you understand Hindi
12:09read it in Hindi
12:10if you understand French
12:11read it in French
12:12if you understand German
12:13read it in German
12:14read it in the language you understand
12:16irrespective whether
12:17you read the English translation
12:19the Urdu translation
12:20the Hindi translation
12:21the French translation
12:23Or German translation
12:24At least read the translation of the glorious Quran
12:27So that you can understand the message of your creator
12:32I'd like to give you an example
12:34Suppose a very close friend of yours
12:37Who's a German
12:39He comes from Germany
12:40And he spends a couple of weeks with you in Bombay
12:43He being a German
12:46He can't speak English fluently
12:48But he can converse with you
12:49He spends a couple of weeks in Bombay
12:53And when he goes back to Germany
12:55He writes to you a letter in German
12:57Because he can't speak English fluently
13:02He can't write English fluently
13:03So he writes to you a letter in German
13:05Now when you get that letter in German
13:08You don't understand German
13:10What will you do?
13:14But natural
13:14Because he's a close friend
13:16You will have that letter translated
13:19You'll want to know
13:20What did your good friend tell you from Germany?
13:24You will have that letter translated
13:25Don't you want to know
13:28What is the message?
13:31The last and final message
13:32Given by a creator Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
13:34You don't have to go and translate the Quran
13:37The Quran, alhamdulillah
13:38Has already been translated
13:40In the major languages of the world
13:43As the image of Allah
13:56What a word is
13:56Now
13:57The iPad
13:59The God
14:00لنحس في عماقنا الإيمان
14:08كم من فؤاد كالحجارة غسوة
14:13فإذا وعن القرآن حين الله
14:19كم من فؤاد كالحجارة غسوة
