00:00Every morning, for the past two weeks I've woken up to the same bizarre sight.
00:04My heavy oak desk chair, which I always leave tucked neatly under my desk,
00:07is sitting right beside my bed, staring at me.
00:10At first I dismissed it.
00:11Maybe I was sleepwalking, a habit I thought I'd outgrown in childhood,
00:15but it kept happening, night after night.
00:17The creak of the floorboards, the slight scrape of wood against wood I'd hear,
00:20faint echoes of it in my dreams, but never the full act.
00:23I'd wake up, heart pounding, and there it would be.
00:26A silent sentinel.
00:27I started to get genuinely unnerved.
00:30I live alone, there's no one else here.
00:31The locks are always secure.
00:33I even tried barricading the door with a dumbbell one night,
00:36but in the morning, the dumbbell was back in the corner, and the chair was by my bed.
00:39It felt like a prank, but the kind where you're the only one in on the joke, and it's not funny.
00:44The feeling of being watched started to follow me throughout the day.
00:47I'd be at work, in a meeting, and suddenly get a chill.
00:50The image of that empty chair beside my bed flashing in my mind, was I losing my mind?
00:54Was something in my apartment with me?
00:56I had to know.
00:57The not knowing was eating me alive, hollowing me out from the inside.
01:01I felt like a stranger in my own home, a guest in my own life, constantly looking over my shoulder.
01:06The silence of the apartment became deafening, each creak and groan of the old building sounding like a footstep.
01:11So, I decided to do what any sane, terrified person in the 21st century would do.
01:16I bought a small motion-activated camera and set it up on my bookshelf, aimed directly at my desk in bed.
01:22It gave me a clear view of the entire room.
01:24Last night, I went to bed with a strange mix of dread and anticipation.
01:28I needed answers, no matter how terrifying they might be.
01:31I barely slept, tossing and turning, my ears straining for any sound.
01:34But the night was completely silent.
01:36This morning, I woke up slowly.
01:38For a moment, I dared to hope.
01:40I turned my head, and my stomach dropped.
01:42There it was.
01:43The chair.
01:44In its usual menacing spot right beside me.
01:46My hands were shaking as I got out of bed and went straight to the bookshelf.
01:50I took the camera, pulled out the memory card, and plugged it into my laptop.
01:53I sat at my desk after shoving the chair back with more force than necessary and clicked play on the video file.
01:59The first few hours were just grainy, black and white footage of me sleeping.
02:03Nothing.
02:04I fast forwarded.
02:051 a.m., 2 a.m., 3 a.m., still nothing.
02:08My breath hitched.
02:09Maybe the camera had malfunctioned.
02:11Then, at exactly 3.33 a.m., I saw it movement.
02:14On the video, I saw myself sit bolt upright in bed, but my eyes, my eyes were wide open, unnaturally so.
02:20There was no grogginess, no confusion.
02:22It was a fluid, deliberate motion.
02:25I watched, frozen in horror, as the me on the screen swung my legs over the side of the bed and stood up.
02:30I walked silently over to the desk.
02:32The camera perfectly captured my face as I turned.
02:35I was smiling.
02:36It wasn't my smile.
02:37It was a wide, predatory grin that didn't reach my eyes.
02:40It was a smile of pure, malevolent satisfaction.
02:43With that horrifying grin plastered on my face, I grabbed the back of the heavy oak chair.
02:47I didn't just drag it.
02:48I lifted it with an eerie, effortless strength and placed it carefully, precisely, beside the bed.
02:54Then, the me on the screen turned to look directly at the camera.
02:57The smile widened, as if it knew I'd be watching, as if it was putting on a show just for me.
03:02It held the stare for a full minute before walking back to the bed, lying down, and immediately falling still.
03:07The smile never left its face.
03:09I'm watching the footage now.
03:10For the tenth time, I haven't moved from my desk.
03:13The sun is setting.
03:14Soon, it'll be dark again, and I have to go to sleep.
03:17But I know, I'm not the one who will be waking up.
03:19Thanks for watching.
