Trump jokes about not getting Nobel Peace Prize

US President Donald Trump, a self-proclaimed peacemaker who has campaigned for a Nobel Prize, hailed his peace efforts and joked about not getting the prize at a dinner at the White House on Wednesday (Oct 15).  “I stop eight wars in eight months. 00:00I don't think any president stopped one war.

00:02I stopped eight wars in eight months.

00:04Did I get a Nobel Prize?

00:06No.

00:07Can you believe it?

00:08In fact, the prime minister of Pakistan came and saw me,

00:13and he was emotional about it.

00:15And in front of a group of people, he said,

00:17this man saved three million, five million,

00:21maybe an untold number of lives.

00:24And it was just recently that this happened.

00:26And we did numerous of them like that.

00:30And part of the reason we did it was trade.

00:32I think of the eight, I would say five were because of trade.

00:36You know, the power of trade but the power of tariffs.

00:39And tariffs have made us a very kind nation

00:44because a lot of people aren't dying.

00:46I use it for purposes of stopping wars.

00:49I love stopping wars.

00:51And sort of interesting, I'll be the only president,

00:55I don't think any president stopped one war.

00:57I stopped eight wars in eight months.

00:59Did I get a Nobel Prize?

01:01No.

01:02Can you believe it?

01:03Even I said, yeah, that's an impossible one.

01:06But it's all right.

01:08I suspect, I think, next year will be better.

01:10But I don't care.

01:11You know what I care about?

01:12I saved maybe hundreds of millions of lives.

01:15But certainly I said, yeah.
