00:00Most of our young people have mobile phones.
00:02The evidence certainly for 11-year-olds is that
00:04the ones that don't have worse mental health
00:06so having access to the internet
00:08every day is a positive thing, it's a bit good.
00:10Now, if you're on social media too much
00:12your well-being
00:14goes down. So there is that correlation between
00:16length of time spent on social media
00:17and mental health. But having a phone
00:20is neither here nor there really.
00:22They all have phones, you know, whether we like it
00:24or not. They all have phones. The ones that have good
00:26mental health, the phones, they just spend less time on social
00:28media. They're doing all their stuff. You know
00:30inequality. The children
00:32who didn't have
00:33access to the internet, and for most
00:36children that was through my phone, had
00:38the poorest mental health
00:39in the screens, whatever the survey
00:42was that came out. Now that's
00:4411-year-olds. When it goes to 16 though
00:46less social media
00:48is associated with better mental
00:50health. For sure.
