00:00French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu is walking a political tightrope this week.
00:06Just as a reminder, he had resigned just a few weeks after taking office
00:11and then was immediately reappointed on Friday night by French President Emmanuel Macron
00:18in a shocking and frankly puzzling move.
00:21But now, with his new government hanging by a thread, Lecornu decided on a bold move.
00:27He announced the suspension of the controversial 2023 pension reform
00:34to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64.
00:38Speaking at the National Assembly this Tuesday afternoon,
00:42Lecornu said that the pension law, a flagship policy of Emmanuel Macron,
00:48will be put on hold until after the 2027 presidential election.
00:54But the political stakes remain high.
00:58With no clear majority, the government faces two no-confidence motions on Thursday.
01:03One filed by the far right and another filed by the hard left with support from the Green Party.
01:11Only the socialists hold the balance of power.
01:15And according to our sources, they say that they are willing to give Lecornu a second chance.
01:22The next 48 hours will be critical as France watches whether the new Prime Minister,
01:29Macron's fourth in under one year, will survive this major parliamentary test.
