00:00Tim Duncan, the big fundamental.
00:07Today we're rewinding the career of one of the greatest NBA players and five-time NBA champion, Tim Duncan.
00:13Looking for the back door, Steven Jackson and Tim Duncan for the win.
00:18What Tim Duncan lacked in flash, he more than made up for with an almost machine-like consistency.
00:25Yes! The Spurs win in the buzzer! The fallaway by Tim Duncan over Karl Malone!
00:32Duncan was the centerpiece of the Spurs dynasty.
00:37Well, I got you. Obviously, he's the greatest power forward ever.
00:42Oh! It almost looked like he passed it to himself!
00:45He did. That was amazing!
00:48He captured five titles.
00:50Tim Duncan has built a reputation for almost being a humble hero in some regards.
00:54The quiet superstar.
00:56Defensively, I mean, who's going to come in the paint?
00:58You're shutting the rim down.
01:00Five titles, three finals MVPs, two regular MVP awards, and 15 all-star game appearances.
01:05This dude is the greatest power forward of all time.
01:08To Duncan.
01:09To Duncan.
01:10He gets doubled.
01:11Jack all over him.
01:12He gets away a fadeaway.
01:13Unbelievable!
01:18Wow!
01:19Fadeaway jumps up!
01:22Off the wrong lay down!
01:24Wow!
01:2521 for Duncan.
01:26Eight in the period.
01:27Just inside the arc.
01:28Regarded by most as one of the greatest players in NBA history.
01:38The San Antonio Spurs are your world champions!
01:42Made this franchise nothing but a winning franchise.
01:45One of the rarities in pro sports to have five championships, and it's all because of him.
01:52Rebound to Nostarovic.
01:53Udry to Ginobili.
01:55Back to Tim Duncan!
01:56Known for his quiet leadership, unmatched consistency, and masterful fundamentals,
02:02Duncan redefined excellence on and off the court.
02:13Duncan grew up in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
02:16He was a star swimmer who had aims at an Olympic run.
02:20This is where Tim lived.
02:22This is where he grew up as a child until he left to go to college.
02:26However, Hurricane Hugo destroyed the only Olympic-sized training pool in the area in 1989.
02:36Not much escaped Hugo's path of destruction.
02:39One casualty meant everything to a certain young swimmer.
02:42Duncan was a swimmer, was a yokester.
02:45Coach, the story about Duncan is he only began playing basketball after a hurricane destroyed the public swimming pool.
02:51So Tim would leave swimming behind and take up basketball.
02:54Tim took to basketball like a fish to water.
02:57In the ninth grade, it was just something to do.
03:00It started really teaching me how to play.
03:02It helped that he sprouted eight inches his senior year, growing to just a hair under seven feet tall.
03:09Timmy committed to Wake Forest and immediately became a national star.
03:14I'll add to this, I'll say that he's the best player I've seen in person.
03:21I don't think I ever saw him have a bad game.
03:23A sponge for basketball knowledge, Duncan's game improved year after year.
03:28Duncan!
03:29Unstop him!
03:30My money, Tim Duncan, is the very best.
03:33Tim went on to become a star at Wake Forest University.
03:36I said you have a tendency to keep people in a game.
03:38He was just one of those guys you could count on.
03:41He was so good at every phase of the game.
03:46Hello!
03:47Hello!
03:49Hello!
03:50He's the 3-I man!
03:51He's incredible!
03:52He's indescribable!
03:53He's incomparable!
03:54I'll tell you one thing.
03:55You talk about Duncan as we look at his numbers right now as his freshman, sophomore and his junior year.
04:00Unbelievable as they've gotten better.
04:02He was a 3-time Defensive Player of the Year, 2-time ACC Player of the Year.
04:08Hello!
04:09Hello!
04:10They want the little court!
04:12And National Player of the Year in his senior season.
04:15Tim Duncan got another A-plus.
04:17I'll tell you, he's the Doctor Who biology, Mike.
04:19When you talk about playing in a lane, he had 23 points, 16 rebounds, 8 assists.
04:24He did it all on New Year's Eve!
04:26Worked so hard.
04:27He was just ready to play every night.
04:29He graduated ready and prepared for the NBA game after playing all four seasons in college.
04:35The Spurs were statistically likely to select sixth overall.
04:40But as fate would have it, they hit the NBA Lottery and won the first pick.
04:45The 1997 NBA Draft goes to the San Antonio Spurs. Congratulations!
04:51The Spurs pull off a miracle in the 1997 Draft Lottery and snag Mr. Fundamental, who forever changes the franchise.
04:57Up until the time he was 14 years old, Tim Duncan was a world-class swimmer in the Virgin Islands.
05:02He's now, as he says, a point guard deceptively packaged as a forward center.
05:07With the first pick in the 1997 NBA Draft, the San Antonio Spurs select Tim Duncan from Wake Forest University.
05:17So you get this massive piece to the puzzle with the number one overall pick in Tim Duncan.
05:24In Tim, yeah. Amazing.
05:25I mean, what's that like for you as the big man in San Antonio?
05:31And now there's another big man in San Antonio.
05:35I was down on my knees just saying, thank you, Lord. Oh my God. Thank you so much.
05:38San Antonio was buzzing with anticipation for the new season.
05:42There was no doubt that Duncan would be wearing the silver and black, but the question that lingered was, what would his impact be?
05:48Duncan would be paired with legend David Robinson, and the two would become known...
05:53It was October the 31st of 1997, Halloween night, the season opener in Denver, Colorado.
05:59The San Antonio Spurs, Tim Duncan.
06:03You look at Tim Duncan right there, you'd say he was totally disinterested.
06:07I guarantee you that is not the case.
06:09I think, Jerry, a lot of people have been impressed, as we have, that he plays with a maturity that belies the young players that seem to typify the NBA game.
06:20With two Hall of Fame caliber big men playing together with minimal ego, the Spurs were instantly transformed into a powerhouse.
06:36Duncan walked into the NBA ready for primetime.
06:42Look at the big man, David Robinson run. He was wrapped up from behind by Yogi Stewart, but he had great opportunity.
06:52Coach Greg Popovich ran the perfect scheme to capitalize on the dynamics of Duncan and Robbins.
06:572 of 11, Robinson with the steal. He's got Anderson all the way. What a move by David Robinson.
07:05The Twin Towers, that's what they called you guys. I mean, not the most original nickname of all time.
07:11It's been thrown around a few times. It's been used before in other instances, but that's what you were.
07:17Tim Duncan's genius can be attributed to another one of the NBA's elite, his own teammate, David Robinson.
07:23The Spurs saw one of the all-time great turnarounds.
07:27Lonnie Williams had Marshall right with him.
07:35Seed to pick and roll, because Duncan, he'll roll with the best of them.
07:40First question everybody once answered is, is Tim Duncan the real deal?
07:44He is the real deal. As advertised. Very skilled. Great demeanor. Great approach to the game. Loves to play.
07:52All he wants to do is play and get better. He's blended into the team very well.
07:56So everybody is...
08:00And what does having two big guys like that allow an offense to do, other than the obvious, which you've got two huge...
08:08The good thing for us was having two guys who could actually shoot the ball as well.
08:15He was so good for so long just because of his nickname, the big fundamental. He had all of the fundamentals.
08:20From every facet you can see he's involved in the game. That's why everyone is so excited about Tim Duncan, his presence in San Antonio and here in the NBA.
08:30It really kind of spread our offense out so well that, you know, who do you guard? I mean, what do you do?
08:35We played inside and out really well. So it just put a lot of pressure on teams.
08:40He could get to that third and fourth move. He could use both hands. He could go off. He could use that bank shot off the glass, especially early on in his career.
08:52The versatile Robinson and Duncan became just the eighth pair of teammates to each average 20 points and 10 rebounds a game.
08:58It almost looked like he passed it to himself. He did. That was amazing.
09:11Because, you know, either one of us could post up, either one of us could play at the elbow, play outside.
09:15You know, Pop did a phenomenal job of really taking advantage of that size.
09:21Tim Duncan, they really raved over this kid. Has the complete package.
09:25Take a look at this move. Look at the spin.
09:28Into the lane. Quick move.
09:29Oh, that was sweet.
09:30Got off to such an excellent start. So he's been a dream for them. They're very happy with him.
09:35Now they're just learning to play together, the two of the superstars.
09:38Oh, man, what a finish!
09:42These guys came out and were tenacious at every game. Going after every loose ball, going after rebounds.
09:48Even as a rookie, defenses feared Duncan. Here, both defenders cheat toward Duncan,
09:54leaving Robinson with the open lane.
10:03And then defensively, I mean, who's going to come in the paint? You're shutting the rim down.
10:07And so it put our defense in a good spot.
10:09The Spurs had become a historically dominant defense.
10:13That day, the Spurs defense dominated like never before. Holding the Pacers to the lowest point total since the inception of the shot clock. 55 points.
10:22The Spurs setting an NBA record for the best turnaround and using a stifling defense. The best the league has ever seen.
10:29They're savvy on the road against one of the up and coming teams in the NBA. The fun police, otherwise known as the Minnesota Timberwolves. Kevin Garnett.
10:40Duncan came into the league during a golden age for big men.
10:44Duncan with the finish. He has the first three.
10:46He was routinely pitted against other future legends, such as Kevin Garnett.
10:51Duncan wasn't just getting consideration for Rookie of the Year, but most valuable player as well, in which he finished fifth in the valedict.
10:59Duncan became the first rookie since Larry Bird to make the All-NBA first team.
11:0321 times this year, Robinson and Duncan had double-doubles.
11:08The two players that set the tone undoubtedly were David Robinson and Tim Duncan, a combo that again made the Spurs one of the elite teams in the NBA.
11:17It was one of the greatest rookie campaigns in NBA history.
11:22Duncan was going to have the dunk, giving him the free throw by being dunked on. Probably not the best move.
11:28Perhaps the biggest testament to his impact was the fact that he led the league in double-doubles with 57, ten more than the closest players.
11:34Duncan and Robinson started a total of 21 games together, and in that stretch, the Spurs went 16-5.
11:41He was named an All-Star and made the All-NBA first team.
11:45What a block by Duncan! They got him again! Hot Rod got blocked three times in a row!
11:52A feat only he and Larry Bird had accomplished.
11:56I saw the competitiveness just from the jump. Just because Tim Duncan wasn't yelling or cursing didn't mean he didn't have that fire.
12:03He did all the tough things to compete.
12:05Of course, we had the biggest turnaround in NBA history. Tim Duncan came in and, of course, approved himself to be the Rookie of the Year.
12:11The season culminated with a Rookie of the Year award for young Duncan.
12:16In games one, they improved by 36 games. And the big standing ovation you're hearing is for the NBA Rookie of the Year. This year, Tim Duncan. And he's being presented that award, that trophy now. He led the NBA in double-doubles this season. He had double-doubles in that scoring and rebounding in double figures in 57 of his 82 games. And he's getting a much richly deserved score.
12:23standing ovation here as the NBA Rookie of the Year.
12:30If indeed the best is yet to come, then the league better watch out.
12:33Tim Duncan was Rookie of the Year.
12:37and named to the all-NBA first team. He and David Robinson were All-Stars.
12:44When we drafted Tim Duncan, he was the Rookie of the Year.
12:46He had double-doubles in that scoring and rebounding in double figures in 57 of his 82 games. And he's getting a much richly deserved standing ovation here.
12:52As the NBA Rookie of the Year, former Wake Forest All-American, Tim Duncan.
12:55If indeed the best is yet to come, then the league better watch out.
12:58Tim Duncan was Rookie of the Year and named to the all-NBA first team. He and David Robinson were All-Stars.
13:06When we drafted Tim Duncan, I invited him to my home to get ready for the season.
13:10He was learning so much. That doesn't count you out. The roses are out to me, not today.
13:14His rookie season had been extraordinary, but his sophomore effort was an improvement in every way.
13:21Now, Duncan on the angle. Oh, boy! Tim Duncan!
13:28You know, he's the greatest player of all time. You know, obviously, people say he's the greatest power forward of all time.
13:34I'd say in his era, he definitely was the greatest power forward in his era.
13:41Oh, look at this to start the fourth quarter. Tim Duncan!
13:46I think that's what impresses most of us is he's a guy.
13:48Even if he's not scoring big, he's going to rebound or assist.
13:51Some nights he's going to score big, but just lets his game speak for him. Not a lot of silliness.
13:57He was unquestionably the best player on the team and possibly the lead.
14:02Check.
14:03And now they're back down five. Here's Duncan now to the left block.
14:08He likes the side a little better.
14:10Go with a right-hand jump hook across the lane. That time, no double.
14:13He could do something your whole life and you show him how to do it.
14:16In ten minutes, he's better than you. And that proved to pan out.
14:20All he needed was a season or two in the NBA and then he was better than everybody else.
14:24Duncan against Funderburg.
14:27As a rookie, he had shared the lead dog role with David Robinson.
14:31Jump hook goes for Tim Duncan. Duncan now with 22 points.
14:36This season, it was Duncan's team.
14:39Is he the best player in the league? He is to me. He's the most complete player.
14:43In a lockout-shortened season, the Spurs cruised to the top seat in the playoffs.
14:48Kevin Garnett, the T-Wolves young star. He's been telling everybody,
14:53we're going to shock the world by beating the San Antonio Spurs.
14:56To me, we hit you in phrases. Got you. Boom. Almost.
15:03Just the worst right here. Nice try.
15:07Kevin Garnett thumping his chest. David Robinson.
15:11Emotionless right now with the tip in the backcourt.
15:14Won by the San Antonio Spurs.
15:16Duncan's bank shot would become his signature weapon.
15:19You got a call window.
15:21Tim Duncan with the lost arc. The bank shot from a wicked angle. 15 feet.
15:25He reached the postseason every single year he was in the league.
15:2919 seasons of understated excellence.
15:32Taking the shot and handed right to Robinson. Releasing his alley.
15:34Finds Duncan trailing.
15:39What really, really, really pissed me off is when the trash talk wasn't affecting him.
15:44So now you're spending all this energy trying to rile this up.
15:47You forgot about your own game. You forgot about,
15:49are they coming to you that you're supposed to?
15:51And then that's when I actually quit talking trash to Timmy
15:54because he wouldn't respond or he wasn't giving me the reaction I was having.
15:57Garnett and the T-Wolves were no match for Duncan and Robinson.
16:12San Antonio won the series three games to one.
16:15They moved on to face the upstart Shaq and Kobe Lakers.
16:20Shaquille O'Neal has two assists in the entire series.
16:26It was a series of Shaq versus Duncan.
16:30Duncan with the hook.
16:31With both men being almost unstoppable.
16:34Inside unstoppable once he gets it there.
16:39Duncan off the glass.
16:44You get the two points there.
16:47He misses the two free throws and then he makes sure on the dunk.
16:55Duncan does some Duncan, plus he picks up the foul.
16:59He runs the floor every possession, whether he gets the ball or not.
17:03The Lakers put up some tremendous fight,
17:05but the Spurs swept them and moved on to the finals.
17:10All right, again, one forward, seven foot from Wake Forest University.
17:14Number 21, Tim Duncan.
17:18In the finals, they'd face the New York Knicks.
17:22In just his second season, he was arguably the best player in the league.
17:33Johnson returns it to Duncan.
17:36His turnaround in the lane.
17:38The entire series felt like a coronation for both the Spurs and Duncan.
17:42Freewell has taken the ball to the basket twice on a fast break and a block on this one.
17:49Taking it again to the basket and gets a block.
17:55Duncan, off the glass.
17:57How frightening it is.
17:58This guy has played one year and 50 games in the NBA,
18:03and he's already the best player in the league.
18:05How frightening and the future for this young guy.
18:08The Spurs headed to New York, looking to close the series out in Game 5.
18:14Game 5, the San Antonio Spurs versus the New York Knicks.
18:18With a well-rounded and fundamentally sound skill set,
18:21Duncan was a cheat code.
18:23In the playoffs, Duncan was a monster.
18:26From 20 feet, Tim Duncan is perfect.
18:30Game 1.
18:32Duncan against Thomas.
18:33The blocks above each basket are off.
18:38And the corner clocks, which have been rolled onto the floor, are on.
18:43Duncan spins and hits off the glass.
18:46He's almost too good.
18:52The San Antonio Spurs have won their first NBA championship.
19:01It was a feel-good moment for the long career of David Robinson, who finally got a ring.
19:14In just his second year, Tim Duncan was an NBA champion and Finals MVP.
19:20Average 27 points and 14 rebounds to be the most valuable player of the 1999 NBA Finals.
19:31Tim Duncan.
19:32For Duncan a title in only his second year.
19:47And tonight, he scored 31 points, pulled down 9 rebounds, hit 12 of 22 from the floor.
19:51Tim Duncan came into the league the same time as Kobe Bryant.
20:03Tim Duncan has never won less than 50 games in any season, except the lockout shortened season, when there were only 50 games in a season.
20:15Unfortunately, Duncan suffered a torn meniscus before the playoffs the following season.
20:25Now you can see, Duncan is smarty.
20:28You know, he labored on his way down the floor when he hit the floor.
20:31The Spurs wouldn't get a chance to defend their title.
20:35Very close, Bruce says, to signing Duncan in the summer of 2000, when T-Mac and Grant Hill both joined the team.
20:42Bruce said that Magic head coach Doc Rivers denied Tim's request during the negotiations that his family could join the team playing on some flights to games.
20:50And that is when Rivers lost Tim Duncan, who could have played next to you, Tracy, in Orlando.
21:00Here's the first matchup tonight, Duncan and Webber doubled by Williams.
21:05Duncan returned from injury.
21:07The first shot goes in.
21:09Duncan got great position.
21:11This guy is everything that you want in a basketball player.
21:14This season, Duncan's numbers grew, and he was again looking like an MVP.
21:18We have a game within the game, two of the great players in the NBA.
21:22Well, you can see it right there.
21:23They played seven playoff games, San Antonio has won five.
21:26This is just nothing short of phenomenal.
21:29Since this man has arrived on the scene for the San Antonio Spurs,
21:34they have consistently, for more than 15 years, been a contender.
21:40And now five on the shot clock.
21:42The candles can't go anywhere.
21:43And Duncan, with one second, puts it up and scores off the glass.
21:47And then when you look at his numbers, 22, 12, and five assists, he's had a fantastic year.
21:57He has, but the trail has come to an end for the Minnesota Timberwolves, who have been eliminated by the San Antonio Spurs.
22:04The Spurs would run into a buzz saw in L.A.
22:08At home and then come from behind to win the series.
22:12He's amongst the greatest all-time players in NBA history in the 90s.
22:17He's second, though, to Kobe Bryant.
22:19Kobe Bryant for three.
22:21The Spurs lead away.
22:22Duncan pushed the dynastic Lakers to a game seven.
22:27From three-point land, Duncan draws the foul.
22:31A leech-in foul.
22:33It's like Terry Porter trying to guide that one.
22:35But by now, Shaq and Kobe were in full force.
22:39And no one was getting past them in the West.
22:41In the 0-2 season, Duncan elevated his game to new heights.
22:53All right, Greg, thank you. Our referees tonight, Joe DeRosa, Michael Smith, and Ross...
22:57You don't win as much as he and the Spurs did, for as long as they did, without an inner fire that maybe we didn't always see.
23:04He was an excellent facilitator.
23:09And though free throws weren't his strongest weapon, they were far from a weakness.
23:14He's got 21.
23:18He's got 10 in the quarter and 35 for the game.
23:22Week in and week out, Duncan faced the best big men of the era.
23:27Let's clear out for TD against Nowitzki.
23:29He's got the contact, gets in again, five on Nowitzki.
23:35Duncan to the line already with 36.
23:38In a time where Shaq and Garnett were in their prime, it was Tim Duncan who would put up the best season.
23:45Huge possession for the Spurs.
23:47Those guys can always be linked from your era, but also in their greatness.
23:51In the clutch, Duncan was ice cold.
23:55Nowitzki, trying to front him out of the play.
23:57He dropped 53 on dirt, including the OT game winner.
24:04Count it! He'll go to the line looking for the three-point play.
24:07Duncan's season earned him recognition as the best player in the league.
24:13That's for help, I remember that.
24:14Yeah, that's when Tim really took it to another level.
24:17Spurs, staying in it with the three-point field goal.
24:19Looking for the back door, Steven Jackson and Tim Duncan for the win.
24:26Three seconds left.
24:28Yes! The Spurs win at the buzzer!
24:38The ball away by Tim Duncan over Carl Malone!
24:41What a great play. I mean, Carl Malone did a pretty good job of keeping him off the deep box.
24:46That was not an easy shot for anybody.
24:49And he just turned around and drilled that thing like it had eyes.
24:51I broke the sweat over it.
24:53A perfect picture. Youth from different corners of the world bringing talent and exuberance.
24:57Showing the ways of winning by veteran examples of perseverance.
25:00The Robinson was on his way out. The Spurs now had a young Tony Parker in his second season.
25:06As well as a rookie, Manu Ginobili.
25:11Here we go, Robinson and Garnett with the opening tip.
25:14He's been playing for the last two weeks, he puts that down.
25:16Oh, good feet!
25:18KG was challenging for the title of the best big in the game.
25:23Their matches often provided fireworks, bringing out the very best in them.
25:30Duncan floats in another one. Tim Duncan four for four from the field.
25:34He's shooting three-pointers. He's second in the league.
25:44On the spin lob, Garnett puts it down.
25:51With a lob underneath to Duncan.
25:54Parker feeding Duncan was becoming a lethal combination.
26:00It doesn't matter. Eighteen for Duncan.
26:06Which is too good.
26:08And Ginobili was getting more and more playing time.
26:11Ginobili caught from behind by Peeler, but into the hands of Duncan for the jam.
26:17Time and again, Garnett's T-Wolts fell to the Spurs.
26:21Mike Casey McGrady out on the floor.
26:24Spurs now with a lot of shooters out there.
26:27Burr has joined the group.
26:29Ginobili into Duncan.
26:31Seven seconds.
26:3220 seconds.
26:40Goes back, gets his own miss, and kisses it down.
26:4320 seconds time out.
26:46And that's just the guy who wants it.
26:49Off the mark.
26:50And the Spurs come in to Orlando and steal one.
26:54Whom we bestow with the title superstar.
26:57One man earns the title simply.
26:59He evolves, he improves, he dominates.
27:01Without TV commercial hype or histrionics, just grace.
27:03Tim Duncan's 2003 season ranks among the most dominant years ever.
27:23Duncan locked up his second consecutive MVP that season.
27:27Congratulations, Tim Duncan, 2002-2003 NBA most valuable player.
27:35In the playoffs, the Spurs look to send David Robinson off with another title.
27:412003, we played in the Western Conference semis, and we ended y'all run.
27:49Remember that?
27:50Oh, I remember that.
27:52I've never seen nobody play like that, you know, especially against Shaq.
27:56Standing in their way was Kobe and Shaq.
28:03Duncan has come alive.
28:06Tim figured me out.
28:07I used to do this little trick thing with Tim, where when I would guard Tim.
28:13Duncan puts it down.
28:15I always wanted him to go to the middle so I could have my hand on his hip.
28:18And it was a little trick I would do, and so the next year, Tim started facing me. I'm like,
28:27I can't do my trick now.
28:29Here's Duncan again against Ori. And the dish underneath to Robinson.
28:33I can't grab my one, and we're just hitting shots. I mean, the dude was on a mission.
28:37MVP Duncan put on a clinic, and outplayed Shaq.
28:42Duncan finds the handle and scores.
28:43And you can't stop him. You can throw everybody at him, and then, you know, feel like, oh, we're gonna throw Shaq at him.
28:47He too quick for Shaq.
28:49Bro, he started doing hooks and little runners on Shaq.
28:52Swept the Lakers during the regular season. They were up 2-0.
28:56The Lakers battled back to 2-2, but then it was San Antonio on Tuesday, and tonight,
29:01and they do it in dramatic fashion over the three-time defending champion Lakers.
29:06How did you come up with that kind of performance?
29:08New, they're gonna come out here with this home crowd and give a great effort.
29:12They want to push it to seven. These guys have been to, had so much experience the last three years.
29:16We didn't want to take it to seven with these guys. We wanted them to finish it tonight.
29:19At last, the Lakers were beaten, and the Spurs' road to a title was wide open.
29:24The game one, it's the New Jersey Nets, the number two seed from the East
29:28against the San Antonio Spurs, the number one seed from the West.
29:31In the finals, the Spurs took on the New Jersey Nets.
29:35Duncan was a monster, and the series was a one-sided beatdown.
29:48Harris blocked by Duncan.
29:52Absolutely fabulous against Detroit, John.
30:00Then Duncan puts it in, and again, a chance to handle it.
30:04That's good.
30:07Parker on the pick-and-roll, back to Duncan.
30:11Duncan knocks it down outside.
30:13Twelve points, twelve rebounds for the big three.
30:19Duncan with Martin, not as hit.
30:23Duncan, another tough shot.
30:25Eight this quarter, 16 for the game.
30:27They've played their weaknesses.
30:35Trent Duncan, and he's Duncan.
30:36The fans erupted into cheers for their Spurs.
30:40Everybody thanking number 15.
30:49This whole city is Mr. Robinson's neighborhood.
30:51Trust me, if he's not an MVP, he's an MAP, the most admired person.
30:57The San Antonio Spurs are your world champions.
31:02David Robinson received a proper send-off, walking off into the sunset, a two-time champion.
31:17Duncan was finals MVP again, and unquestionably the best player in the league.
31:23It'll work.
31:24Congratulations, Tim Duncan.
31:26Where are you, David?
31:28The celebration went on all summer.
31:30This is the paper that's already out.
31:31With your MVP on the front, just one word, Tim Duncan glory.
31:36The city said goodbye to Robinson, as a new era of Spurs basketball took over.
31:44This era would be dominated by mindsets.
31:47Manu Parker and the big fundamental, Tim Duncan.
31:50I used to get so frustrated playing against Tim Duncan, because I could not figure him out.
32:08Is he the player you did not want to play?
32:13Like, he was, like, the most difficult guard.
32:17I couldn't figure him out.
32:18What Tim Duncan lacked in flash, he more than made up for with an almost machine-like consistency.
32:24It took them a year to really get rolling.
32:26Big Funda.
32:27Mr. Big Fundamentals.
32:29He hit me, like, 14 straight points and then hit me on the butt and said, you gonna be okay.
32:33I was like, man, don't text me, man.
32:36Don't root for me after you bust my eyes.
32:39And I was thinking about Tim, you can't even be mad at him.
32:42He was such a nice guy.
32:43You can't even get yourself where you want to fight him.
32:45Yeah.
32:46Let me say that.
32:47To Duncan.
32:48He gets doubled.
32:49Shaq all over it.
32:50He gets away at it.
32:56Oh, it's unbelievable.
32:57Wow.
32:5821 for Duncan.
32:598 in the period.
33:00Just inside the arc.
33:01I couldn't figure him out.
33:02It was just, like, no matter how much strength I put into it or how much I suffered or how hard.
33:21It was...
33:22It was just, like...
33:23Glass.
33:24Yeah.
33:25Boring.
33:26Inside.
33:27Duncan.
33:28Great movement.
33:29Jim with two on the shot clock.
33:33I heard he would, like, pat you on your butt.
33:34Like, good rebound.
33:35Bro, that s*** is the most irritating s***.
33:37Right.
33:38Like, bro, talk some s***, bro.
33:39I would rather let...
33:40I thought I was...
33:41That's Beamer.
33:42Right, right.
33:43By the 2005 season, the Spurs were back in control of the West.
33:46Duncan puts him in his portion chamber.
33:488 to shoot.
33:49He was the best player on both ends.
33:52Oh, it can be again.
33:53Duncan knocks it away.
33:54Oh, my God!
33:55Spurs with the lead.
33:566-5.
33:57Salmans comes in to replace him.
34:01Tip Duncan with a block of Iverson.
34:03Rebound and Eskerovich.
34:04Udry to Ginobili.
34:06Back to Tip.
34:07Cut!
34:08They became known for their teamwork and ball movement.
34:12Incredibly well coached.
34:14They were a level above most other teams.
34:17Cut!
34:18Cut!
34:21Gonna hit modern.
34:22Let's see if we make a good hard cut.
34:24Make him guard you.
34:25Against Detroit.
34:26Oh.
34:27Because we had to go to a seventh game against them.
34:32One of the great turnarounds in NBA history.
34:35In a game you can see in high definition...
34:37Back in the finals again.
34:39This time facing off against the Pistons.
34:42It was common for casuals to overlook Duncan's game as boring.
34:48Shooting is kicked after that great start.
34:51Oh!
34:52Oh!
34:53Oh!
34:54It kicked out there!
34:56Timmy's legendary bank shot had become an unstoppable weapon.
35:02And then coaching up off the glass.
35:07These finals served as a reminder that despite not being as flashy as some other players,
35:13Tim Duncan was the best player in the league.
35:17Late in game seven, Duncan and Manny took over.
35:28From the corner, it's Duncan!
35:32The win cemented Duncan's place among the all-time greats.
35:36And the San Antonio Spurs with tough, tough, tough defense.
35:43And Tim Duncan answering a lot of questions and erasing any doubt about coming up big when
35:54you have to come up big.
35:56And for the third time in seven seasons, the San Antonio Spurs are the NBA champions.
36:03He was now a three-time champion and a three-time finals MVP.
36:19I didn't realize how great a defender he really is.
36:38We're in his second all-star season.
36:40Duncan, nice fade.
36:42He gets inside the lefty layer.
36:45You had to face him.
36:47Why was he so good for so long?
36:50Duncan inside.
36:52Oh, Duncan comes right there.
36:54There were times when you could play him perfectly.
36:56He could still get his shot off.
36:57I remember one time guarding him, nudging me with his shoulder and got his little shot off the glass.
37:01And he was like, that's really good defense, man.
37:03I was just able to get to my third move.
37:05And that's what made him so good.
37:06In 2007, the Spurs would find themselves in the finals yet again.
37:11Goal Spurs go!
37:12Goal Spurs go!
37:13Goal Spurs go!
37:14Goal Spurs go!
37:15Goal Spurs go!
37:16Goal Spurs go!
37:17Caps certainly don't want to end what's been a terrific season by getting swept in the NBA.
37:23Facing off against a young LeBron James, the Spurs were heavily favored to win their fourth
37:29ring.
37:30Oh!
37:31James on the slam!
37:32Oh!
37:33Oh!
37:34James on the slam!
37:35Oh!
37:36Oh!
37:37Oh!
37:38Oh!
37:39Oh!
37:40Oh!
37:41And here's the buzzer.
37:42The San Antonio Spurs are NBA champions once again.
37:47Their fourth title in nine years.
37:50It was a clean sweep for Duncan and the Spurs.
37:54And a fourth title for San Antonio.
37:56Good job mate.
37:57Going to drive these guys.
37:58This is gonna be your league in a little while.
37:59But I appreciate you getting up this year.
38:00Shooting his hip-amp to that great start.
38:01Oh!
38:02Oh!
38:03Oh!
38:04Oh!
38:05And he played in six finals total, winning five and securing three Finals MVPs.
38:20winning five, and securing three Finals MVPs.
38:27Duncan puts him down!
38:29He was...
38:30Staying in it with a three-point field goal.
38:32He is universally regarded as one of the greatest players in NBA history.
38:37And Tim Duncan, for the win.
38:39Three seconds...
38:40What Tim Duncan lacked in Flash, he more than made up for with an almost machine-like consistency.
38:46Tim Duncan.
38:47Yes!
38:48The Spurs win in the buzzer!
38:50The fall away by Tim Duncan over Carl LeBow!
38:53Sadly, during the making of this video, I had an accident and injured my hand badly.
38:58I'm...
38:59I'm...
39:00I'm ending here.
39:01I definitely will revisit this video and complete it in its entirety in the future.
39:06Sorry, and thanks for understanding.
39:08Nobody brings it home like Joe Vincent.
39:12Nobody.
39:13Make it so.
39:18Doesn't it feel like you're doing too much?
39:19That given me that you will know of who happened on me and said,
39:22right?
39:24Can you describe this video later?
39:25It could not knock it out.
39:26As
39:28I know.
39:30I am stepping down to a snowball.
39:32We...
39:34I can't believe it too.
39:37I am...
39:38I can give you time for now.
39:41If it starts in a laughter.
39:42I got there...
