Salut Angel.
00:25Ravi de te retrouver. On va faire un petit point parce qu'on t'a découvert, tu es venu,
00:35tu as disputé quelques matchs, tu nous as mis un beau but contre l'Orient. Je me souviens,
Quelques semaines
00:56après, tu es dans ce beau projet. C'est comme si on a fait déjà deux saisons à l'OM,
01:00vu tous les événements. Qu'est-ce que tu te dis ? Tu as vu ces fameux clubs anglais
02:14Yeah, I think they already know how big Marseille is, but we're now challenging for big things
02:26in the league to finish as high as possible. Last season, the team finished second. We're
02:33in a good moment at the moment, in the league, we're in a good moment in the Champions
02:36League. And, you know, when you play in the Champions League and you do well in the league,
02:41on the global scale, everybody can see this. And I think for me, this is important, because
02:49then, you know, around the world, everybody will see the results and they will see how well
02:56we are doing as a team.
03:26It's really special. Like, I think the connection between fans, players, the club, I think in
03:34England, there is a lot of, you know, England is, like you say, it's, it breathes football,
03:40but here in Marseille, it's very, very unique. And I think to understand this, you have to
03:48be here and you have to see, you have to go to the velodrome and you have to see, you know,
03:53you have to feel this to understand what Marseille is. And in comparison with, with England,
04:01me personally, I think that the velodrome, Marseille is the, is the best in one of the
04:09best in Europe, if not the top three.
04:11Well, it's better than St. James Park or Anfield.
04:16This is my personal opinion. I think, I think, yes, personally. And I've obviously been to
04:23these stadiums, but me personally, I think that the velodrome, it is, I don't know, you
04:30have to be there to understand, you know.
04:32Okay.
04:33For all the English fans, come and see the atmosphere in Marseille. You know, Marseille,
04:39now, you know the velodrome. You're now installed a little bit in the city. Tell us a little
04:45bit about supporters. Is there an interaction, a little crazy moment with a supporter who you
04:53met in the street in your life every day, who is here? Do you have an anecdote with a
04:58supporter?
05:00Every day. Every day. You go to the pharmacy, somebody is Marseille. You go to the grocery store,
05:09somebody is Marseille. Everybody is Marseille in Marseille. It's impossible to not encounter
05:15or to meet a fan, you know. But at the moment, I've had positive interactions. So, for me,
05:21this is good. I like to interact with the fans also. So, it's been nice.
05:27And at the level of food, did you discover a dish, a culinary specialty in Marseille,
05:33something that you discovered that you didn't know? In France, in Lille, you certainly
05:38ate well too. And now, since you're in Marseille, did you discover something or not?
05:43At the moment, there's nothing at the moment, but the vibe is just different, you know, because
05:55I was in the north of France. Now, I'm in the south, but I'm in Marseille and the vibe is
06:01different and I like it. It suits me. It reminds me a bit of home where I grew up, but without
06:10the sun, because in Manchester, there was no sun. But the people, it's very much like
06:16where I grew up at home. So, it's nice.
06:19We're going to go back on the side of the tactics of the field.
06:25I was discovered with Lille and Paolo Fonseca.
06:29I saw this profile of milieu, which made a lot of passes, and that we met
06:33milieu défensif, but, of course, they were out with plenty of passes.
06:37Lille played, of course, very well.
06:39very well.
06:40Can you tell us, for those who haven't looked at Lille like me, but what makes you
06:48different from the other regions, for example, in the effect of the OM?
06:51I'd say I can be used in any of the midfield positions. I can play number six, number eight,
06:58number ten. I like to think the game and see what the game needs. I like to find the spaces.
07:09I like to be in positions where I can give the ball to my teammates, whether it's in one touch,
07:15to touch, or whether I need to go with the ball. And I like to make things easier for my teammates.
07:24You know, I like to put them in good positions. I like to start the attack.
07:29I like to finish the attacks, try to be decisive, you know. And that's my style, really.
07:38I need to listen to a specific topic. My friend Slim, who works with me, I love you,
07:47in conference of press, after the match against the Real Madrid, against Paris,
07:52he asked a question to coach, he said, coach, on these two matches,
07:55you haven't played Angel, and why? And the coach said that Angel was the best against Lorient.
08:02I didn't put it because there were different tactics options. But I went to see it
08:09to talk to him a little bit. Can you tell us that? Is the coach coming to you?
08:14Because I imagine that you wanted to play these matches against the Real and the PSG.
08:19Do you think, tactically, these matches, I understand,
08:24not going to play the ball, maybe? Is that right?
08:27No, I don't think, because I didn't play in those games, I can't play in those games.
08:35I could have played in both games. I think this is a tactical decision from the coach.
08:41And sometimes this is football. Sometimes the coach sees things that maybe I don't see,
08:51I don't see, fans don't see, you know, where he's been a coach for a long time.
08:56It's not easy as a player because you want to play in every game.
09:01But, you know, you have to understand this and all you have to do is continue to work.
09:07So next time the coach is in this position, it's a lot harder for him to make decisions.
09:14You know, this is the only thing I can do is make it difficult for the coach when he has to choose the team.
09:20And yeah, this is my thoughts on the question.
09:27Because when we ask, there are a lot of supporters who ask us,
09:33Angel, is he more number six, number eight, number eight, number ten?
09:38I know that you are ready to play everywhere, but your role has changed.
09:43When we look at the preparation, you played, you were between Adrian Rabiot and Pierre-Emile.
09:49And then there, the configuration changed because there are two teams.
09:52And you, we saw it on Metz, you played a little bit more in a bit.
09:55Did the pass circuit have changed?
09:59Did the team play a little bit evolve?
10:04Did you feel it too?
10:06Or did you have worked in preparation?
10:09Is it what you have in the field now?
10:11No, I think in football now you have to be prepared to play in every position.
10:17You know, if you look at the best midfielders in the world now,
10:20they can play as a number six, number eight, number ten.
10:23You have to, you have to be able to play in all.
10:26And every game requires different things.
10:30So the game against Metz is not the same game as Real Madrid.
10:34It's not the same game as Lorient.
10:37It's not the same game as Rennes or Paris FC.
10:42Every game is different.
10:43And I think the coach, he prepares for every game.
10:46And in every game we play different.
10:49Sometimes he prepares to play more on one side.
10:53Sometimes he prepares to play through the middle.
10:55Sometimes he prepares to defend more to attack fast.
11:01It can all change, you know.
11:03And I work in function of what the coach wants and what the team needs.
11:10That's what the coach told you since the beginning.
11:13This use of the middle, his system.
11:15Where without ballons you will find you in 4-4-2.
11:18But behind it, it changes itself.
11:20Sometimes there is a defender who goes up and changes position.
11:23That's what you told you since the beginning.
11:24And what you find now.
11:26Yeah.
11:28So, for example, without saying the tactics too much.
11:33When the game is played, everybody rotates into positions.
11:39And every player is in each position on the pitch to occupy space.
11:44And in the games, this is what we try and do.
11:48You know, to disorganize the other teams to find space to, you know.
11:55He plays to the strengths of all the players.
11:57So, against Mets, Robinho started as a striker, you know.
12:03And this is football, you know.
12:06You have to play to the strengths of all the players.
12:08And you have to be able to adapt.
12:12Amin came on.
12:13He scored.
12:14Robinho played a very good match.
12:16And Oba didn't play this game, for example.
12:21So, it all changes.
12:23And it all depends on what the coach he sees and what the game needs.
12:29I'm not going to ask you who is the best of the coaches.
12:32Because it's not the subject.
12:34But it's to explain, so that people understand.
12:37It's totally different from what you have to know with Paolo Fonseca, for example.
12:41Who was also a great coach.
12:43But there, what Roberto Dezerbi asks is different from all the other coaches.
12:48or Zotkoic?
12:49Yes.
12:50What he asks isn't the same as, for example, what Fonseca asked me to do.
12:57It's very different.
12:59And the styles of play, in some respect, some are similar.
13:05But also very different.
13:08It's very difficult to explain.
13:10It's very complex.
13:11But, yeah.
13:14If you watched the last games, it's very different.
13:17It's very different to some of the positions that I played with Fonseca.
13:22But also, if you watch some of the games, I did play high also.
13:26So, I've played as a number 10 for Fonseca also.
13:29Played as a number 8 and played as a number 6.
13:32And in the beginning of the season here, in the preseason,
13:37I played more as a number 6, number 8.
13:40And then, as the games have gone on, I've played more as a number 10.
13:45Against Strasbourg, I played as a number 10.
13:48And then, in the last 20 minutes, I played as a number 6.
13:52So, I can change depending on what the coach wants.
13:56And, if there is an aspect where you have the most progressed,
14:00because we progress all the time in football.
14:03I said you are an international.
14:05he had to put your senses in a moment on a particular field.
14:10Do you think it's which one?
14:12He wants the midfielders to always be involved.
14:19You know, he wants you to always be on the ball.
14:22Body position, you know.
14:24To know what's behind you.
14:26Know when to come short.
14:28Know when to stay in the space.
14:31And he demands a lot for the players, especially the midfielders.
14:36Because this is the connector of the team, you know.
14:39The connector from the defense to the attack.
14:42And, sometimes, what he asks is to help the team.
14:50It isn't necessarily...
14:54I don't know how to explain.
14:56It's not for...
14:58Maybe, as the fan, you might not understand why.
15:02Why did he do this?
15:03Why did he pass here?
15:04Or why?
15:05But, the coach, he sees the bigger picture, you know.
15:09And, I think for us, this is the most important.
15:12If we continue to win, I think this is the most important.
15:18The beginning of the season, I think, was the most intense.
15:39Yes, this because you are new, you are understanding.
15:47The coach, the players, because everything is new.
15:53You know, the other day, I remember I looked at the team.
15:57And, the team is 9-10 players who are new.
16:01You know, I looked left.
16:02I had Emerson.
16:03I had Naif.
16:04I had Ben.
16:05I had Tim.
16:06Me.
16:07Igor.
16:08Oba is not new, but Oba, Matt.
16:12Matt.
16:13And, this is the first time we all play with each other, you know.
16:18This, for me, was difficult because you have to build the relationship, the connections with the players.
16:24And, normally, you have a full prepper.
16:26You have a full preseason to do this.
16:28And, we are doing this as the season is going.
16:32And, you have to win.
16:34So, this, itself, is intense.
16:37So, and, you know, the demands and, you know, at Marseille, you have to win every game.
16:45Yeah.
16:46So, I'd say this was the most intense, you know, the chemistry, you know, to find the good chemistry of the players.
16:56So, you have to choose two prepositions and you can't say both.
17:28Go with the national team.
18:07Yeah, this is the aim, you know, to play as good as possible, to win, to then be able to go with the national team.
18:17This is the mindset.
18:22Merci beaucoup, Angel.
18:23Merci.
18:24Et puis, à très vite.
18:25Merci.
18:25Salut.
18:25Salut.
18:26Salut.
