00:09latest exhibition for several weeks. Maidstone Community Art Hub are celebrating the would-be

00:15100th birthday of the late Kentbourne artist Tony Hart. What a fantastic opportunity to be

00:22introducing the centenary exhibition for Tony Hart. Here we are in the creative Maidstone

00:28Community Art Hub, our three-month arts and culture baby in the town. Hugely exciting

00:35to have this landmark exhibition. Best known for his television appearances, Tony Hart's

00:41oeuvre is on display in Maidstone, his hometown, as an homage to a century of artwork. Curated

00:48by daughter Carolyn Ross, the exhibition displays plasticine to watercolour to charcoal, allowing

00:55attendees to step right into his world. It might be more that you recognise most, but

01:00really Tony Hart's artistry spanned genres and mediums. The people who do know Paul, who grew

01:07up with his paintings, I think will be surprised at some of the stuff that we've got on show

01:13here and will say, you know, well I know he could do that, but I didn't know he could do this. So that's

01:18always good. And the different medium as well. We've got crayon, soft crayon, we've got watercolour,

01:26the extraordinary Pollock picture which he referred to as action art.

01:32The Art Hub opened just three months ago and received government funding to establish a permanent creative

01:39centre in Maidstone, putting on events and offering studio spaces for artists. Tony Hart means a lot to

01:46the people of Maidstone. He was very special to us, one of our, a fair number of artistic figures

01:54associated with Maidstone of one type or another, but perhaps the most famous in the era for his

02:00television appearances.
