00:00:00My Werewolf System. Chapters 1511 to 1520. Chapter 1511, On the Brink of Annihilation.
00:00:11The relentless fight between the three alphas had torn the battlefield apart. Large chunks
00:00:16The earth was shattered, smashed to pieces. Cracks snaked through what remained of the
00:00:22ground like splintered glass. The earth was no longer flat, whole sections had collapsed,
00:00:29while others rose into sharp ridges. Even part of the restaurant,
00:00:35In the distance, its foundations seemed to be cracked by the shock waves and some parts were sinking.
00:00:41visibly. It was devastation. Fortunately, the fighting had moved away from the heart of the countryside.
00:00:48battle, had moved to one side, closer to the forest and away from the rest of his allies. Because
00:00:55If the three of them had fought where everyone else was, if they had faced each other in the middle of
00:01:00their forces, then no one, ally or enemy, would remain standing. We cannot sit here
00:01:08looking. We have to help, even if it's in our own way. Chin shouted, turning on his heels. His
00:01:16His gaze turned to the distance, where battles were still being fought between the Lupus group and the
00:01:21howlers. But if they're both in danger, we'll have to calm them down, Marie said hesitantly.
00:01:29His voice trembled. Once we break their true alpha ways, they'll both be fine.
00:01:35Right? It's not a full moon night anymore, so that should be possible.
00:01:41You know we can't come between them, Chin replied tartly.
00:01:46His tone was firm, but his eyes were heavy. Let's do everything possible to save as many
00:01:53lives as possible, to save those who have sacrificed everything to buy us this
00:01:58moment. We won't stray far, and we'll keep a close eye on them.
00:02:04Marie pressed her lips together, but nodded. She knew Chin was right. Austin and Midback had already
00:02:11thrown back into the fray, fighting with everything they had. And the truth was,
00:02:17While Chin and Marie were in their lunar states, they could do more than they thought.
00:02:23They could save more people than they thought possible. A powerful attack was coming from the side of
00:02:28the howlers. Their forces were bleeding out, their numbers were dwindling, and many had already fallen,
00:02:35but the ferocity of the werewolves that kept charging into the fight was making
00:02:39retreat to the lupus herd. The only reason it wasn't completely one-sided now
00:02:45It was because those who had been fighting non-stop for so long were exhausted.
00:02:51The altered and the howling humans had only been told one thing, to survive until the
00:02:56dawn. That single order had guided them through the endless battle, giving them a
00:03:02purpose when their bodies wanted to give up. They had survived so long, but their energy was
00:03:09was fading rapidly. In the middle of the battlefield, the clash of alphas continued like a
00:03:15storm within the storm. Gary was on top of Kai, holding him. Kai's body no longer held
00:03:23his wolf form. Flames and black smoke erupted from Gary's back as he threw his fist. This
00:03:30crashed into Kai's face and a wave of searing pain ran through him. A burn was left on his
00:03:37snout as he reared his head back. Snarling, Kai formed ice blades along both
00:03:43arms. He dug them into Gary's chest, or at least he tried to. As soon as they touched his body, they crackled and
00:03:51began to melt, dissolving into nothingness. Before Kai could react, a huge chunk
00:03:58of earth rose from the ground and slammed into Gary's side, knocking him completely off Kai.
00:04:03Gary rolled and jumped to his feet just in time to see Lupus lunging at him.
00:04:09like a rock. Lupus's fist slammed into Gary's stomach. The blow detonated like
00:04:16a cannon shot. Gary's body was thrown into the air, spinning as a
00:04:22A cloud of smoke followed him. The fog swirled around him, still obscuring whether he had been
00:04:29wounded. But Lupus didn't stop. A spear of ice began to form between his claws. It condensed
00:04:37the weapon with raw power until the icy spear shone like polished glass. Then the
00:04:42threw forward with all his might. The sound resounded like thunder as the spear
00:04:48It tore through the air. It was moving so fast it broke the sound barrier, shock waves echoing
00:04:55on the ground as he headed towards Gary. But just before he reached him, Gary opened
00:05:01mouth. Flames burst from its jaws like a living hell, and the intense heat
00:05:07wrapped the spear in the air. The ice weapon evaporated before touching him. But even
00:05:13When she disappeared, Gary's instincts screamed. In a split second of distraction,
00:05:19Lupus was already there. Gary felt a crushing grip around his skull, the claws
00:05:26of Lupus closing around his head, and then he was thrown downward. His body
00:05:31crashed to the ground with a shuddering crash. A sharp pain coursed through him.
00:05:37as the stone sank under his weight. But he didn't stay down. Gary emerged from the ground
00:05:43like a volcanic explosion, cracking the ground in its wake. A heat burned his
00:05:49chest, glowing brighter and brighter, as if a molten fire were forming in
00:05:54inside. His muscles tensed, his veins bulged, and a powerful force
00:05:59tensed beneath his skin. The magmatic veins running through his body throbbed with light,
00:06:05as if trying to extract more energy, more fury, from deep within him. And Lupus,
00:06:12was also changing. He landed back on the ground, his claws shining like
00:06:18obsidian under the moonlight. The black claws thickened, lengthened, became
00:06:24heavier and sharper every second. The muscles in his shoulders bulged, building
00:06:30like a rock coiled under his skin. Gary had changed too. He had returned to his old form
00:06:37wolf-like, with its body closer to the ground and darker fur. The icy streaks
00:06:42that covered his spine spread like irregular frost on his back. He showed
00:06:48teeth and growled, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth and splattering
00:06:53the ground cracked. The three alphas stood still for the first time, facing each other.
00:06:58across the ruined battlefield. From this position, it was like observing the forces
00:07:04primals of nature preparing to collide. Their breaths were slow
00:07:10But heavy, their gazes met in defiance, as if each was trying to extract even more
00:07:15power from deep within themselves. None of them were willing to give up. Not until
00:07:22that the others were dead. And none of them noticed. Around the neck of
00:07:29Gary, the medallion had begun to burn. Chapter 1512, The Shining Light
00:07:35For one member of the Den family, Amy, traveling between cities had become part of
00:07:41from his routine. Now there were only two cities he was going to. One of them was Slogue, his
00:07:48hometown, where his brother still lived and ruled his territory with his penetrating gaze
00:07:53and vigilant. The other was the bustling city where AJ Entertainment was headquartered, where
00:07:59She had established her new home. Gary had moved his family there, his mother,
00:08:05Amy and White, all together in one place. I had done it out of fear. I knew I could
00:08:12there was an attack. I knew the easiest way to get to him would be to go after his family.
00:08:18And knowing full well that at some point the two alphas would inevitably clash, he took
00:08:24the only possible decision. He took him out of Slogue, out of the place he once called home, to
00:08:30keep them safe. However, that night, Amy couldn't sleep. She stayed awake until
00:08:38well into the night, staring at the ceiling, thoughts tangled in a sea of
00:08:43worries. Finally, he got out of bed still in his pajamas and walked through the dark
00:08:49apartment until it stopped in front of the high window of her building. She stared
00:08:55the vast lights of the city. He stood there so long that he saw them fade away
00:09:00As dawn approached, he watched the sun slowly rise, bathing the horizon
00:09:05with a pale orange glow. “You’re quite sensitive, aren’t you?” he said softly.
00:09:12a voice beside her. Amy flinched, almost stumbling, and turned her head toward the sound,
00:09:19only to see Webb standing there. Her heart calmed. “I’m, I’m surprised you’re too.”
00:09:25"You're awake," Amy replied softly. "And I don't know. Maybe it's just the change of seasons."
00:09:32—Watt walked with his usual quiet grace to stand beside Amy. He smiled slightly and
00:09:39He also looked out the window. "That's not it," White murmured. "After all,
00:09:46You are a member of the Den family. Although an essential part of you has been taken away,
00:09:51you're not completely separated from her. A nervous laugh escaped Amy's lips.
00:09:56—White wasn't one for much talk. —You're, you know, chatty today, —Amy said. —And,
00:10:04Honestly, you sound a little weirder than usual. —White didn't respond immediately.
00:10:11There was a silence between them before she spoke again, her tone softer and more distant.
00:10:16"Do you believe in gods?" Amy blinked. "That came out of nowhere."
00:10:22—He hesitated for a moment, then sighed. —I mean, if I'm honest, my faith has changed over time.
00:10:31Sometimes life was so hard that I thought there could be no life. Then, when I think about the
00:10:37scale of the entire universe, I wonder. —There has to be something out there, right?
00:10:42—Maybe, maybe we're just not as important as we think we are. —Correct, —he replied.
00:10:49Uai is simply. His gaze remained fixed on the horizon. The word, God, is quite
00:10:57interesting. If people love something, it may even come into existence, or perhaps I should say,
00:11:04If life forms worship. Therefore, life forms play an important and crucial role
00:11:10in the existence of gods in the first place. White paused and then bowed slightly
00:11:16head. —Let me ask you another question. What do you think is the most stable form known to the
00:11:23Man? —Oh. Amy's eyes lit up with sudden recognition, grateful for the change.
00:11:30of the subject, though she was still uneasy. She snapped her fingers. “It’s a triangle, isn’t it? I think I
00:11:38we learned in engineering. —Correct, —said White. I asked it in a way that I thought would be more
00:11:45easy to understand. He exhaled slowly. “You see, the universe is like a triangle. When it is held
00:11:53So, everything is stable. But right now, the universe is broken. I helped break that triangle,
00:12:01and now I'm trying to fix it. Trying to make sure there's another piece. Because if the
00:12:08triangle is unstable, then there is something else that is stable. White's gaze darkened. And that
00:12:16is, if there is nothing left to exist. Amy took a small step back. There was something about White that
00:12:23seemed, wrong. His voice, his presence, his way of speaking, everything was strange. It was almost as if
00:12:31was possessed. And if she wasn't possessed, then what was she? Was White pretending to be
00:12:38someone completely different all this time? "I hope," White whispered at last, "that what I gave him
00:12:45then, long ago, put it to good use. And may it be worth all the sacrifices we have
00:12:51done. Amy's breath caught in her throat. White's eyes didn't move from the rising sound. In the distance,
00:13:00The battlefield shook. The three alphas stood facing each other, their strength increasing like a
00:13:06tide. Elemental power seeped from their bodies, forming trails of mist and light that
00:13:13burned the broken ground beneath their feet. This would be a devastating crash. All three knew it. And the
00:13:21Three acted at once. They charged together, three forces of nature, three living storms,
00:13:28advancing with all the power they possessed. When they were less than a meter away. The
00:13:35The medallion around Gary's neck glowed brightly. Suddenly, a blinding light burst forth
00:13:41that enveloped the three of them. The glow spilled out, flooding half the battlefield in a
00:13:47wave of radiance. Everyone stopped. Those still engaged in battle
00:13:54They froze and their heads turned towards the glare. Those who looked directly at it did not
00:14:00They could see nothing else, only the scorching white light that drowned out everything around them. And then,
00:14:06Slowly, it began to fade away. Chin had been watching intently from the sidelines.
00:14:12Her heart pounded as her eyes struggled to adjust. She squinted at the
00:14:19the fading light, desperate to see what had happened. The light finally dimmed. And
00:14:27What she saw left her speechless. “What?” Chin whispered. His voice broke. She looked to her side,
00:14:35to the others, and saw their astonished faces. They all saw the same thing. Or rather. They all saw the
00:14:44same nothing. Because where the three alphas had been, there was nothing. No sound. No
00:14:52movement. No presence at all. “They’re gone,” Chin said. His voice trembled as it escaped his
00:15:00lips. All three of them have completely disappeared. End of part 2 of the final arc of my system of
00:15:08Werewolves. Author's note. Thank you all for making it this far to the Mawarwolf System.
00:15:15Chapter 1513. The Absence of the Alpha. An Intense Battle Between the Howlers and the Lupus Pack
00:15:22had broken out at midnight, and had lasted for six and a half relentless hours. There were great
00:15:29losses on both sides. Many humans, as well as the altered allies and the combatants who
00:15:35howlers had brought with them, had disappeared, their bodies lay silent
00:15:41where they once were. On the lupus side, the situation was no better. Many fangs of
00:15:48Iron had fallen, as well as several of the strongest werewolves in their ranks, including Hilva,
00:15:53the moon that once commanded its entire pack. And yet, despite all that shedding
00:16:00of blood, the battle was not really over. Instead, it had frozen.
00:16:07Across the battlefield, for the first time since the night began, every man
00:16:12The wolves retreated. They leaped away from their opponents, baring their teeth and glaring
00:16:19fixed. Because something had changed. The rest of Gary's friends and allies, who had felt
00:16:25a terrifying surge of power moments before followed by a deep rumble coming from
00:16:30from the ground, turned their heads in the same direction. They were all looking in the same direction.
00:16:37Because just moments ago, three alphas had been locked in battle there,
00:16:42And now, they were all gone. No, Chin whispered in a shaky voice.
00:16:49They are no longer here. It's not that they have been destroyed or expelled from the area, they have simply
00:16:56gone. You're right, Marie replied in a trembling voice. I don't feel it either. I don't smell anymore
00:17:04To Kai, I don't feel his presence, even that chill I felt when they were close has disappeared
00:17:10completely. The aura of an alpha was something all werewolves could feel. It wasn't
00:17:17Not just a smell or sound, it was instinct. A pressure in the air that tore at their nerves, warning them
00:17:24that a predator more powerful than anything else was lurking nearby. Especially when
00:17:30three of them had been active and fighting with all their might, the feeling had been
00:17:35impossible to ignore. And now, he was gone. That's why the entire Lupus group had also
00:17:42stopped fighting. They had frozen, claws raised and eyes open,
00:17:48as if waiting for the reappearance of their alpha. But there was only confusion, a confusion that
00:17:54It was also reflected in the faces of his enemies.
00:17:56"What do we do?" one of the werewolves muttered nervously.
00:18:01—Hilva is gone, and now where is Lupus?
00:18:05"What do you mean, what do we do?" another growled.
00:18:09—We only have one option, right? —We keep fighting.
00:18:14—The other side is exhausted. There are still many of us left. If we eliminate those moons, we can
00:18:21advance towards the rest. There were still more than a hundred werewolves from Lupus's group left. Their
00:18:28number had decreased drastically, a ragtag mix of armored warriors
00:18:32and unarmored regular soldiers, but they were far from being annihilated. And seeing the fatigue
00:18:39on the faces of their opponents, they still had hope. But not everyone on their side thought
00:18:45the same. After fighting the transformed werewolves and witnessing firsthand the
00:18:51overwhelming power of the moons, many were shocked. Although the three alphas had
00:18:57disappeared, Chin and Marí remained in their moon states, radiant and lethal, ready to
00:19:02fight. And that raised an even darker question, wherever those
00:19:08three alphas, were still in their alpha forms? Could they still be fighting each other right now,
00:19:14somewhere invisible, somewhere no one could reach? No one knew.
00:19:21"Damn!" Park shouted, throwing up his arms. "I can't believe this. Even after everything I've been through."
00:19:29We have passed, after so much blood and death, and without even knowing where our leaders are,
00:19:35These guys still want to fight. That's fine, said Olivia, cracking her whip in the air with
00:19:42a sharp click. A smile spread across his lips. The truth is, I haven't had my share.
00:19:49fair in this fight. Not having been able to transform myself in all this time has been incredibly
00:19:55frustrating. The howlers didn't want the fight to continue. Many of the lupus pack didn't either. But
00:20:03Without an alpha in command, if even a few decided to continue, the rest would have to follow.
00:20:09Arg! The roars of the werewolves echoed as they crouched, ready to charge again.
00:20:16toward the blood-soaked battlefield at any moment. Stop! A single voice
00:20:22echoed through the chaos. It was sharp. Deep. Imposing. Everyone froze. The
00:20:32The members of the lupus pack turned their heads and saw a man walking slowly among
00:20:37their ranks, pushing aside the larger wolves as if they weren't there. He wore little more than a
00:20:43tattered loincloth, with a huge bow tied to his bare back. And they recognized him instantly.
00:20:50The remaining warriors gasped. “Lucen!” someone shouted. “Are you alive? We still have one of you.”
00:20:59The iron fangs are with us. He's Lucen, the strongest of them all. We can still win, yes.
00:21:06“Shut up,” Lucen snapped. His voice was sharp as steel. “Haven’t you heard me yet? There’s no reason to
00:21:16that we continue fighting. If we fight now, we will lose this battle. The brothers and sisters who still
00:21:23support will bleed, and for nothing. He stared at them, and his mere presence made several
00:21:29shudder. There's no reason to fight, he said coldly. Our moon, and our alpha, are no longer
00:21:37with us. His gaze swept across the field, fierce and unwavering. We all have to admit it. We have
00:21:46lost this battle. One of the werewolves that had crouched to jump growled in anger and advanced
00:21:52stomping, baring their teeth. Lucen, what do you say? You can't make this decision on your own.
00:21:59us. Now you think you're lupus? The moment he approached, Lucen's hand shot out. He grabbed
00:22:08the werewolf by the head, his muscles bulging, and slammed him into the ground with a
00:22:13heart-rending force. Before the wolf could even gasp, Lucen lifted his foot and stomped on its
00:22:20skull. We surrender. Lucen roared. His voice echoed across the ruined battlefield,
00:22:28cutting through the smoke and silence. What if someone disagrees? His foot pressed harder.
00:22:35Then you can fight me instead. Across the field, on the howlers' side,
00:22:42Inu couldn't help but smile slightly. He shook his head, and a quiet laugh escaped his lips.
00:22:49I had a feeling that guy wasn't dead. Chapter 1514 Subject to New Rules
00:22:57Of all the werewolves left, Lucen was perhaps the strongest left in the pack.
00:23:03lupus, and as one of the iron fangs, it had a natural weight of authority over the rest. And
00:23:10After seeing him effortlessly take down one of their own, none of them doubted that any longer.
00:23:15authority. If Lucen and much of his remaining troops agreed to surrender, what chances
00:23:21They believed they had the few who still wanted to fight? Even if they tried, how could they see now
00:23:27a path to victory? That was until they heard a scream. Arr. The werewolf in the mask
00:23:35Iron, who was once the silent shadow of Ilva and was now unmasked, let out a
00:23:41guttural, savage scream. His body trembled, his claws tore lines into the shattered stone,
00:23:48His muscles contracted like ropes about to break. Damn, no, that's the toy.
00:23:55Ilva, Lucen thought sadly as he reached over his shoulder and unstrung the bow.
00:24:00from the leash. She narrowed her eyes, her instincts screaming at her. That thing only listened to her. And now
00:24:09that's gone. He didn't hesitate. Lucen pulled out and shot several arrows in quick succession. The force of
00:24:16The string of his bow cracked like a whip each time. The first arrow lodged deep in the
00:24:23shoulder of the iron-masked werewolf. Blood spurted out in a crimson jet, even though
00:24:29The arrows were made of compressed force, almost invisible to the naked eye. The impact itself
00:24:35It was only enough to crack the ground beneath their feet. But when the next arrows came, the
00:24:42The iron-masked werewolf suddenly turned, his claws flashing, slicing through the air and breaking
00:24:47the invisible projectiles hurtling towards him. Even Lucen's eyes widened slightly.
00:24:54At that. Wait. Inu's voice echoed. Don't kill him, subdue him. Help us subdue him. Chin and Maria
00:25:04They exchanged a quick glance. Both remained in their moon forms, power flowing through their veins,
00:25:11Their bodies were still far from exhausted. They didn't know why Inu insisted on forgiving this
00:25:17monster, but they trusted him. That was enough. They rushed forward at the same time.
00:25:25The werewolf in the iron mask swung his claws viciously at Maria's stomach,
00:25:30but his moonlit barrier shone and absorbed the blow, the shockwave spreading
00:25:36harmlessly around her. Chin received a brutal kick to the abdomen that left her breathless,
00:25:42but dug its claws into the ground and tore its way through, grabbing his leg and tearing it off.
00:25:47below. The werewolf crashed to the ground. Chin instantly pounced, squeezing with one hand
00:25:55his throat. The werewolf in the iron mask thrashed violently, waving his enormous
00:26:01arms. Maria lunged at him, grabbing him by both wrists. She tightened her grip with all her might.
00:26:09forces upon realizing what Chin was doing, strangling him. He growled, kicked, struggled,
00:26:16but Chin's grip only tightened. Until finally his body went limp. Standing
00:26:23Off to one side, Black watched the scene in silence. He leaned on his swords to stay upright,
00:26:30His face was pale and drenched in sweat, but his eyes remained fixed on the captured werewolf.
00:26:35He didn't move. He didn't try to speak. He didn't even know how to react. This was tied to him,
00:26:44but at that moment he couldn't understand how or what he was supposed to do. Inu ran towards him,
00:26:51breathing heavily. “Thank you,” he said quickly. “If he gets up, you’ll have to subdue him again.”
00:26:58The iron-masked werewolf was clearly injured and exhausted, but despite that,
00:27:05Their resilience had proven how powerful the moon forms were, especially when Chin and
00:27:10Marie worked together in this way. When the tension calmed, Lucen gave a clear order to
00:27:17that all the remaining lupus werewolves should gather behind him. It was a clear message.
00:27:23They were done fighting. They wanted everyone to see that their surrender was genuine. While
00:27:30Meanwhile, the injured members of the cages were escorted back to the destroyed restaurant.
00:27:36Some were limping, others were being carried in arms. Emergency medical personnel had been called,
00:27:43and the distant sound of approaching sirens could now be heard through the shattered streets
00:27:48as ambulances headed toward them. Soon, all surviving members of the
00:27:54cages regrouped outside the restaurant. They stood together, battered and ragged,
00:28:00with a sore body, but a heavy mind from the same question.
00:28:05Does anyone know what happened to Gary? We just saw him disappear, Marie replied. Along with Kai and
00:28:13Lupus. We have no idea where they are. So who's going to talk to the others?
00:28:20Someone asked in a low voice. With Kai and Garre gone, who will be in charge? The words sank in.
00:28:28like stones. Realistically, the only ones left to take on that role were Osten or Inu. But
00:28:36Neither of them trusted themselves to make the right decisions in matters unrelated to the fight. And so,
00:28:42Naturally, all eyes turned to Marie. Me, she asked weakly and with a voice
00:28:49broken. But no one said otherwise. Then he swallowed hard, gathering his courage,
00:28:56and they walked together as a unit across the ruined field to where Lucen was looking after them.
00:29:01waiting. Marie wasn't really alone, she could feel everyone's presence behind her,
00:29:07her silent support at his back, but it still felt like the heaviest walk he'd ever had.
00:29:13had given up. Now that you've given up, what do you plan to do? Marie finally asked, her tone stern.
00:29:22After everything that's happened here, we can't let you return to Ruin City. Not until
00:29:28Let's find out what happened to Garre and Kai. We can stay here until then, Lucen replied with
00:29:35calm. And we won't cause trouble. We know we lost this war. He glanced quickly at
00:29:42the destruction that surrounded them. Surely we have more important problems to discuss. Above all
00:29:50now that our two alphas are gone. Maria felt slightly. She realized he was sincere,
00:29:57But something about it still bothered her. From her tone, Lucen didn't know what had happened to the three of them either.
00:30:03missing alphas. Hey, we can't do this like this, Inu said suddenly, his voice tense. These
00:30:11Werewolves betrayed us. They swore they wouldn't fight us, and then they killed so many
00:30:17our allies, so many people who had family, friends. The same thing happens to us, he interrupted
00:30:25that don't look firm. His eyes were cold, but his voice was firm. They may complain about circumstances
00:30:32all you want, but the truth is, right now, we've given up. That means we're not
00:30:39We want to fight. They may not have cared about taking our lives when it was for survival,
00:30:45But they truly believe that their group has in its heart to kill those who no longer have the will to fight.
00:30:49His words hung in the air. The howlers fell silent. They were too
00:30:57soft for that. Although no one said it out loud, Mari knew it was true. Carrying the
00:31:05The weight of something like that, executing those who had surrendered, would destroy them, especially when the one who
00:31:10was in charge, he only had a temporary position. There's a way to make you trust us, Lucen said.
00:31:17Finally. The group tensed as his gaze swept over them. The color of all your eyes, he said.
00:31:25It means that your alpha, and ours, are still alive somewhere. But despite that, for some reason
00:31:33You have two moons before you. You can bring us all into your pack. We'll abide by your rules. So,
00:31:41You will know that we will have no choice but to be loyal to you. Chapter 1515. The first conversion.
00:31:50Crowley, along with the White Rose team and AFA members such as Numba, and N. Easy,
00:31:55They worked tirelessly to help the howlers inside the ruined restaurant and
00:32:00in the parking lot. The smell of burnt wood and dried blood still lingered in the air as
00:32:06They moved among the wounded and the dead. The bodies were lined up in rows outside the building,
00:32:12carefully arranged on the cracked pavement. Sadie, Frank and Vlad flew from one
00:32:18side to side in silence, leading them one by one from the scattered areas of the battlefield.
00:32:24Each time they landed, their faces became haggard and their movements became slower.
00:32:30They tried to make it easier for researchers and families afterwards,
00:32:34it was known who had survived and who hadn't. When the police and the
00:32:40ambulances would take over. They would tag and collect the bodies, begin the grim
00:32:46paperwork and send letters and phone calls that would destroy lives far beyond this place
00:32:52bloodied. It was an overwhelming task for all of them. As the howlers gathered the dead
00:32:59and cared for the wounded, the weight of what they had done began to settle like cold ash.
00:33:06Had they really won? In theory, it seemed so, but with so many lives lost, it didn't seem like a victory.
00:33:13they had imagined. There was no celebration, no shouts of triumph, just a heavy, suffocating silence.
00:33:21Meanwhile, just outside the ruined front wall, several survivors had gathered
00:33:27in an informal circle. They talked in low voices about what would come next, with the future pressing on them.
00:33:33while the past still clung to their hands like blood. Can we really do it?
00:33:39Chin asked, frowning. “Is there any way to integrate one pack with another?”
00:33:45Yes there is, Lucen replied calmly, his voice steady, as if the unfolding carnage
00:33:51after them will not disturb him at all. But there are certain conditions that must be met.
00:33:58First of all, only a moon can perform such an act. Not even an alpha from another pack can
00:34:04do it, unless they're turning an omega wolf. That's how we know their alphas are still alive.
00:34:12Otherwise, you'd all have become omegas by now. An alpha isn't reborn immediately upon death.
00:34:18In any case, this ritual can only be performed by a moon. Marie had her arms crossed,
00:34:25with a thoughtful expression. But if that's true, couldn't Iba have done that to us already? Did she just
00:34:33sneak in and get everyone on his side? You're right to question that, Lucen said, nodding slightly.
00:34:40It's not that simple. Each member of a pack has his own will, his own instincts and
00:34:47pride. The moon's ability cannot completely negate them. The moon plays a crucial role in the
00:34:54battles between alphas, especially in the old ways, but there is one condition,
00:34:59The person must be willing to be claimed. If the person is not willing, the power of the moon
00:35:06won't work. Ready? Chin repeated, frowning. It seems like an impossible condition. How are we doing?
00:35:16Who knows if any of them are really willing to change sides? Perhaps, deep down, none of them
00:35:22The Lupus werewolves really wanted to do this. Maybe they were just staying quiet because
00:35:28were too dejected to resist. Lucen let out a low, amused laugh.
00:35:35A person's will is not as strong as you think, he said. You can force someone to be
00:35:41willing. Turn it over until his will to resist crumbles, and the desire to stop the
00:35:47Pain will make him give up. If none of them step forward on their own, I can help with that.
00:35:53part. A thin, disturbing smile spread across his face as he said that, and several of the
00:36:00Others instinctively changed their position. You can change me first, Lucen continued, unfazed.
00:36:08Once I join you, the rest will follow. I have no doubt. Place your hand on my head and,
00:36:15With your will, bring me to your side. Chin and Marie exchanged a wary look. Was this a trap?
00:36:23Could it be a trick? But looking at the ragged, blood-stained survivors
00:36:29On both sides, they knew there was no room for tricks. You should do it, Chin, Marie said in a
00:36:36low. Kai made me promise that we wouldn't add anyone new to our pack, and I still think
00:36:42keep that promise. If this works, you should be the one to bring them. It might be the only way
00:36:50avoid future conflicts. Chin nodded slightly. She still wasn't sure if it was fair, but they were a
00:36:57team. Although Marie technically belonged to another pack according to werewolf law,
00:37:03They were both howlers in spirit and wanted to protect what was left. She came closer and placed
00:37:09his hand gently on Lucen's head. Closing his eyes, Chin let his breathing slow down.
00:37:16calm down as she focused on herself. She searched for the source of energy within her,
00:37:22extracting it, thinking of attracting that stubborn and dangerous man to her side. She imagined his
00:37:28energies merging, their bonds rebuilding. And then he felt it. A warmth, like a thread that
00:37:36swirled between them, and a strange radiant glow formed where their powers
00:37:41were. The air hummed faintly around them. When Chin opened his eyes and withdrew his
00:37:48hand, he could feel it instantly. The tension radiating from Lucen was gone. He had joined
00:37:56to the pack. “You learn fast,” Lucen said, smiling with some approval. I thought we would have to
00:38:04review it several times. Now, let's move on to the rest, and then we'll see what to do, once we're
00:38:11sure that none of us are going to cut our throats. The words were spoken so casually that
00:38:17made some stiffen, but Lucen kept smiling as if he hadn't said anything.
00:38:22Nothing strange at all. Chapter 1516 – Consequences of Victory
00:38:28After Chin converted Lucen, the process became surprisingly simple.
00:38:35Lucen stood beside Chin like a looming shadow, calling out to the remaining members
00:38:40of the Lupus pack one by one. Chin placed his hand on each of them, drawing them towards the
00:38:46howlers with silent concentration. It felt strange. The process didn't seem to consume any energy,
00:38:54and none of the wolves offered any resistance. A part of her suspected that she had nothing to do with it.
00:39:00not with his ability as a moon, but with the disturbing figure that was at his side. They looked
00:39:06He watched them with that same faint, mysterious smile. I could imagine the silent threat
00:39:12In his gaze, if any of them showed the slightest reluctance, he would crush their will with pain
00:39:18until it broke. Even the iron-masked werewolf had transformed while
00:39:24He was still unconscious, hopefully, since Ilva could control him, now Chin could do the same.
00:39:31Only one of them hesitated. Slit had been lurking on the fringes, making his way through the chaos,
00:39:38not even knowing if he wanted to rebel. The idea of becoming an omega wolf was eating at him. The idea
00:39:45of being loyal to Lupus, if he returned, was hollow. What pack would Lupus have left? Most of
00:39:54of his army had died. The few wolves that remained in the ruined city were scattered, without
00:40:00leader. Most of what was once Lupus's force was gone, and those that remained were
00:40:06had united the howlers. So Slit finally stepped forward and bowed his head. Chin touched him and
00:40:15He also crossed over. Once the last of Lupus's wolves turned, the tension in the air
00:40:21seemed to dissolve. The hostility between the two groups vanished as if it had never existed.
00:40:28The newly incorporated wolves looked different, calmer, firmer, they no longer bristled or
00:40:34They were growling. I called one of the howler hotels, Marin said, shaking off his
00:40:40dust from the arms. We can let the Lupus group stay there for now. Once everything is
00:40:47Calm down, we can find out where they are from there. Before they could even start arguing
00:40:53In the future, the cleanup began. The transport of the bodies of the dead Lupus was organized,
00:41:00gathering them in an area to be claimed. They had to work quickly, before the
00:41:06public to press for access to the park again. The authorities had already marked out the entire field of
00:41:12battle as a no-go zone, and the surviving howlers were allowed to return home
00:41:17to rest. Meanwhile, the seriously injured were urgently treated. Adam was still alive,
00:41:25but barely. The news of Donicano's death had begun to spread quietly
00:41:31among the howlers, leaving a void in their hearts. There was no time to grieve.
00:41:38The members of the White Rose had agreed to stay in Slough for a while before returning.
00:41:44They still needed to renegotiate the terms of the agreement Kai had made with them,
00:41:49and that could not be done while the leaders of both packs were shocked by the
00:41:54blood loss and exhaustion. Finally, once the field was cleared and the first layer
00:42:00With chaos overcome, the surviving members of the Howlers' core gathered together again.
00:42:05Lucen and Slith also came, both strangely subdued. They met inside the restaurant,
00:42:13what was left of it. The place had been partially cleaned, although the glass
00:42:19still crunched underfoot and the air carried the acrid smell of burnt wood and blood. They had gathered
00:42:25the tables in the center so everyone could sit and chat. "It feels strange,"
00:42:32Lucen admitted as he looked across the table at Midback. "Being part of the
00:42:38same pack as you." "Likewise," Midback replied grimly. "I don't think
00:42:45None of us could have predicted any of this. But for the sake of everyone left in
00:42:51foot, we have to get over it and decide what the hell we're going to do next." The others nodded in agreement.
00:42:57tiredness. Although their bodies ached, although they all wanted to collapse into a bed for
00:43:03A week later, there was still much to discuss. "I have a suggestion," Lucen said suddenly,
00:43:09before anyone else could speak. That in itself was surprising. Most had assumed
00:43:16that they, the victors, would lead this conversation. "There is a great concern that
00:43:22"It's looming over us all," Lucen continued, "and it's the vampires." Innu blinked and smacked her head.
00:43:29palm of hand with fist. "Oh, right. I completely forgot about them. But, they agreed not to
00:43:37attack us, right?' 'They agreed not to attack us,' Marie said, 'because they wanted our groups to
00:43:44"They'll kill first." That was one of Kai's biggest worries, remember? In case the vampires
00:43:51moved, or if the dark guild attacked, the howlers had always known it still existed
00:43:56that huge force of werewolves hiding in another city. But after what Gary had unleashed
00:44:02Here, they weren't even sure that those reinforcements could hold out. "For our part,"
00:44:09Lucen said, "We'll try to contact our allies in the dark guild to see if they've detected
00:44:14some movement." I don't know what kind of contact Lupus had with them beforehand, but they are quite
00:44:21They're so good at gathering information with us, I wonder if they'll even answer me. But whatever happens,
00:44:27that happens, there is one thing we must do above all else, keep secret that Gary, Lupus and the
00:44:33Another alpha that appeared today is missing. They must not find out. At any cost." He let his
00:44:41words will remain suspended, heavy and definitive, before finishing. So I think we should spread it
00:44:49Around the world, cages have won this fight, and there's a reason for it. Chapter 1517,
00:44:57Where are they? Haha. And he burst out laughing from across the table, his voice raspy and
00:45:04full of disbelief. Are you trying to make a joke or something? What do you mean you spread the word that we won the war?
00:45:12That's what happened. You're making it seem like we were the ones who lost.
00:45:18The sound echoed through the wrecked restaurant, where broken glass still crunched under the
00:45:23boots and the smell of smoke floated faintly in the air. The surviving members of the core of
00:45:29The howlers had gathered at the long table, and although exhaustion overwhelmed them all,
00:45:35The tension in the room kept them awake. Facing Innu, Lucen's expression remained
00:45:41unchanged. That slight smile remained fixed on his face as his cold gaze moved from
00:45:47Innu to Chin and then to Marie. I wonder, Lucen said softly, do you often train with each other?
00:45:53you in your pack, or in your group? If so, I would love to face him again at any time.
00:45:59moment. It was a pleasure to fight him. The words were calm, almost too calm,
00:46:07But the weight behind them made Innu's mouth go dry. She vividly remembered their fight.
00:46:14The absolute power behind Lucen's attacks. The way each clash had shattered him and
00:46:20had forced him to fight with all his might. The only reason he had managed to win was
00:46:26because he had taken advantage of the environment, forcing Lucen to enter small spaces where he could not
00:46:31could move freely. Face him head-on again? No. That was something Innu didn't want to do again.
00:46:39to experiment. Can you explain to me exactly what you mean by spreading the news? Marie asked
00:46:46with a cautious tone. Lucen stared at her, clasped his hands. What I'm saying is this, vampires are
00:46:54experts gathering information. They have hidden networks in every city and can find out what
00:47:00that happens anywhere, if you give them the time. He leaned forward slightly and
00:47:06He lowered his voice. This fight was between our two packs. That means it would have been difficult for
00:47:13vampires get too close or watch too much. And that's why we need to get ahead. Spread the word about the victory of the
00:47:21howlers and make it look like it was easy. Eventually they'll realize you've won, but if
00:47:27If we make it seem like they've come out stronger than ever, they'll hesitate to act. Fear will hold them back.
00:47:34Marie and Chin exchanged a look. It made sense. If the vampires were going to attack, the moment
00:47:41perfect would have been right after the confrontation between the alphas. They didn't even hide that they had
00:47:47leaving Garry alone to face Lupus, that was the goal of the battle. If the vampires
00:47:54They'll find out that the three alphas are gone now. It's not just the vampires we should worry about,
00:48:00Apollo interrupted in a deep, firm voice. Shouldn't we also be worried about a soku? He's been
00:48:07causing trouble nonstop. If he considers this a failure, he might come back. Wait, said Olivia,
00:48:15frowning. What if a soku was the one who caused the three to disappear? If he has the power to
00:48:22restrict Garry, and the power to turn Kai into an alpha, then maybe he was the one who made them
00:48:28disappear. The room fell silent at his words. It was an angle no one wanted to admit,
00:48:35but it made too much sense to ignore. Wait, Lucen said suddenly,
00:48:41squinting. Did someone make one of your members alpha? Didn't it just come naturally?
00:48:49Midwaka felt briefly, his tone grim. Haven't they taken care of him? He's a man who
00:48:56calls himself the first werewolf. Lucen remained silent, his face unreadable as
00:49:02processed that. For a moment, it seemed as if the name itself stirred something deep in his mind.
00:49:09But then, slowly, he shook his head. I can't say I've ever heard of him before.
00:49:17I'm not even sure the accountant recorded it.
00:49:20"What?" Park asked, his eyes wide open. It wasn't just him; all the howlers around the
00:49:28table looked at in disbelief. A zoku was more than powerful, something superior to an alpha. It was ancient,
00:49:36older than any of them, perhaps older than the entire race of werewolves.
00:49:41as they knew her. How was it possible that the Lupus faction, with centuries of history and deep-rooted lineages
00:49:48In tradition, I didn't even know his name? Are you sure you've never seen him? Midwaka insisted in a
00:49:55grave and serious. We have some guesses. When performing the ritual, we believe that a zoku is a
00:50:03who werewolves unknowingly pledge themselves to. Lupus also made that oath, so there's no
00:50:09doubt they had any kind of contact. Midwaka's eyes darkened. Before the fight
00:50:16With you, Lupus came to us, not once, but twice. First for Gary. When that failed,
00:50:24came for Kai, the alpha shapeshifter you saw. Forcing the werewolves to fight each other
00:50:30Yes. That was his plan. So if anyone had talked to Lupus, it would have been a zoku. It was
00:50:38Then Lucen's expression changed. Something clicked in his mind. Wait, he muttered.
00:50:45You may be right. He looked up, his calm tone disappearing for the first time. There was
00:50:53an attack on the castle. Much of it was destroyed. Some said it was just a training exercise
00:51:00Lupus, but it didn't look like it. It didn't look like it at all. And most importantly, it was after that
00:51:08attack that Lupus changed. Suddenly, without warning, he declared that he was going to march against the
00:51:14howlers. It was such a sudden change of heart. A heavy silence fell. Many wanted to dismiss it,
00:51:24to say that Lucen was just looking for a scapegoat. But no. He wouldn't lie now. Not here. At that moment,
00:51:33Lucen stood before those he now considered his moons. He was connected to them by instinct.
00:51:39of the pack, for something even deeper than loyalty. If he said it, he truly meant it.
00:51:46This is a big problem, Austin finally muttered, running a hand through his hair.
00:51:52We can keep it a secret for a while, but without Kai, Lupus, and Gary, when the vampires find out they've
00:51:59gone, or if a soku wasn't the one who took them, then we'll be in serious trouble. Our
00:52:05The next step is to find out what happened to them, Marie said softly. Do you have any ideas? She asked,
00:52:12turning to Lucen. He just shook his head. Everyone sat in absolute silence,
00:52:19with his mind racing. Suddenly, his heightened senses picked up the faint sound of soft footsteps
00:52:26crunching on broken glass. A shadow moved through the restaurant door in
00:52:31ruins. I think, said a quiet, deep voice, that perhaps I can help with that. Garlark, the accountant,
00:52:40entered the room. Chapter 1518
00:52:44The work of the accountant
00:52:46The reason everyone immediately noticed Garlark entering the room was simple,
00:52:52He wasn't one of them. Even now, he still belonged to the Lupus pack. The sight of a
00:52:59A wolf from the rival group quietly entering the ruined restaurant made several of the
00:53:04The howlers tensed, chairs scraped the floor as they half-rose to their feet,
00:53:09ready to move if necessary. They hadn't seen him even once during the battle. And appearing
00:53:16Now, when the war had just ended and their alpha was gone, it got on their nerves.
00:53:22tip. Okay. Lucen raised a hand slowly, his calm voice carrying just enough weight to
00:53:30make them doubt. He's the werewolf's counter, he explained. He doesn't fight. He doesn't take sides, not even when
00:53:39Two alphas face off. Their duty is to teach the alphas the ways of our species,
00:53:44preserve our history. It's not here to hurt anyone. The tension in the air
00:53:51eased slightly. Although many of the howlers were still agitated, Garlark had an aura about him.
00:53:58around, something strangely reassuring, almost like the presence of a new mole. It filtered
00:54:04through the air and softened the atmosphere, and one by one, they sat back down. I wondered where they had gone
00:54:11been, Slit muttered from further down the table. It was the first time he'd spoken. His voice was raspy,
00:54:19restless, as if it had come out of its guts. Although now it was under the banner
00:54:24of the howlers, he still found it strange to speak openly. You were by my side during the battle.
00:54:32I thought you would have returned to Ruined City. Garlark bowed his head slightly. I am fully
00:54:39Aware that my appearance here, precisely now, may come as a surprise, he said with
00:54:45serenity. I've been doing the same thing as all of you, assessing the situation. And while I was doing so,
00:54:52I also did some research of my own. His eyes scanned the table slowly.
00:54:59I think it's best if I first explain how Lucen did it, what my position is and the role I
00:55:05performance. Garlark's tone was calm but steady, and the room fell silent as
00:55:11began. He told them how long he had been part of the pack. How he had served since the
00:55:18time of Lupus's rise and even before, during Dean's era. He had guided them both.
00:55:25taught everything about what it meant to be a werewolf, not just the fighting or the power, but the traditions,
00:55:32history, the sacred laws of the pack. The accountant always remained. He lived beyond
00:55:39the alphas, passing from generation to generation. And just as he had once been taught, he too
00:55:46took an apprentice. That apprentice remained a secret. No one knew his name until the
00:55:53time to inherit the position. When that day came, the accountant would take out the book containing the legacy,
00:55:59and the apprentice would be marked as next in line. The accountant not only keeps the books,
00:56:06Garlark explained, touching his temple. We carry here, in our minds, the memories of our predecessors.
00:56:14That's why I'm called that. I record the events of the present and preserve those of the past. There was something in
00:56:21His way of speaking, a stillness, like deep waters. It wasn't boasting. It was simply a fact.
00:56:30Before I suggest anything to you or tell you what I have learned, Garlark continued, I think it is best
00:56:35that you take me to the side of the howlers. Several of them frowned. Do it, he said. That way you'll have
00:56:44the certainty that what I say will be true. Chin stood up slowly. He hesitated for a moment and then
00:56:51She approached him. She placed her hand gently on his head, closed her eyes, and invoked the power of the moon.
00:56:57that now invaded her. Energy stirred, swirling between them like invisible threads.
00:57:05Then he sank into Garlark, and just like that, he became part of the Howlers. When Chin lowered his hand
00:57:12and returned to his seat, something strange happened. A faint glow rippled over his skin. The glow that
00:57:19clinging to her lunar form began to fade. She blinked, confused, and then gasped as her
00:57:26body returned to normal, its fur disappearing and its claws retreating.
00:57:32uniform, stretched and torn by the transformation, now hung loose over his body.
00:57:37—Wait, she said breathlessly. —We. We transformed again?
00:57:44Maria looked at her own hands in shock. She too was changing. The silver glow
00:57:51The light in her eyes dimmed and her lunar aura vanished like fog. In seconds, she was simply
00:57:58Marí, with the tattered Howler uniform and all. I thought, I thought we'd get stuck.
00:58:05in that form forever. —There is a limit, Garlark said calmly.
00:58:11His words drew their gaze back to him. On the duration of forms
00:58:16true. —Like everything, when the energy decreases, you come back. Energy flows between
00:58:23you guys, like when you first unlocked the form. He crossed his arms with a look
00:58:29thoughtful. It is believed that the true alpha is destined to unleash endless fury,
00:58:35feeding on everything it defeats and replenishing its energy with each life it claims. In that
00:58:41way, he can remain in his form almost indefinitely, as long as he is fighting. But
00:58:47If the fighting ceases, if there are no more lives to consume, it will fade away. The room was
00:58:54silently. —In this case, Garlark continued, we can assume that it has happened to the others
00:59:00the same. Wherever they are, their true alpha forms must have broken. For some
00:59:07reason, the way he said it didn't seem like a simple assumption. It seemed like something he
00:59:13knew, based on knowledge far older than anything they had.
00:59:18—I want to suggest a few things, Garlark continued. First, that some of our werewolves
00:59:25Go back to Ruin City. We need to know what's going on there and if Lupus or someone else shows up.
00:59:32Chin and Marie exchanged a look. That made sense. Second, he said, all our loot from
00:59:40war, the armor, the weapons we used in this battle, be handed over to you. Chin blinked,
00:59:47startled. “Would you really give us all that?” Garlark nodded. “You are the victors,
00:59:55he said simply. It's only fair that the strongest wear the toughest gear. Now that everyone
01:00:02We are part of the same pack, everything should be used to strengthen it. Chin let out a soft
01:00:09sigh. I hadn't expected them to give up so much without a fight. I wasn't sure if it was just because
01:00:16were now part of the same pack, or if they really respected her and Marie as lunatics.
01:00:22Either way, it was good news. It would be a huge boost to the strength of the cages.
01:00:29—Now that we've got that settled, Garlark said at last, sitting down, let me tell you,
01:00:35about the medallion that Gary Dama wore around his neck.
01:00:39Chapter 1519. The End of the Dark Guild? The night sky stretched endlessly,
01:00:46a silent black canopy dotted with cold, distant stars. Down below, in a narrow alley
01:00:53In the shadows, a solitary figure staggered forward. Marcus's breathing was
01:00:59choppy and staccato. Sweat ran down his face and dripped from his chin as he stumbled,
01:01:05with each uneven, heavy step. He swerved toward a wall, rapping with a trembling hand on the
01:01:12cracked tiles to steady himself. He looked over his shoulder and then looked up,
01:01:18scanning the rooftops. The tips of his fingers shone snowily, small flashes of lightning
01:01:24Blue eyes jumped among them before disappearing. I don't see them anywhere, he murmured in a
01:01:31broken from exhaustion, but I don't think they've given up. His legs gave way. Marcus let himself
01:01:38He slid down the cold wall and onto the dirty cement floor. He no longer cared about the grime.
01:01:44or the dirt that stuck to it. His whole body throbbed with pain. His muscles felt torn,
01:01:51His arms were torn apart by cuts and his bones ached as if they were going to crumble.
01:01:56if he tried to move again. That man was so strong, Marcus thought bitterly. I never had
01:02:04no chance. Running away was the only option. Use all my energy to tear down the building that
01:02:11had behind it, I had to do it. But even after that, I doubt he's dead. A thought
01:02:19darker was eating away at his mind, one that chilled him more than the night air. Did they let me go? Did they want
01:02:26that he would escape and follow me later? He had tried to communicate with the other members of the dark guild,
01:02:33sending urgent signals through their channels, but nothing. No one responded. It had to be an attack
01:02:40coordinated, he said. It wasn't just me. They must have attacked all the bases, all the cells
01:02:48at once. But why? Why attack us now? Was it because we were helping the lupus pack,
01:02:55Or was it something else? Did they want our things? He clenched his fists and winced at the pain.
01:03:02pain in his forearms. The dark guild wasn't supposed to be this vulnerable. They had bases
01:03:10spread across several cities. Its members were feared, many of them were trained in the
01:03:16use of ki and most carried powerful artifacts at all times. There was a reason they were
01:03:23called one of the kings. Even if another king attacked them, defeating the dark guild was supposed to
01:03:30It would be almost impossible. And yet there he was, alone, broken, running for his life. No,
01:03:38Marcus growled to himself. If I stay here, I die. All I can do now is get to
01:03:45another base. Maybe, maybe there are still other survivors out there. Gritting his teeth,
01:03:53Marcus sat up. His legs screamed in protest, but he kept going, dragging one foot.
01:04:00in front of the other. He had barely taken a few steps when something flashed in the darkness. Two points
01:04:06bright red. Her heart stopped. Red eyes. The same red eyes that had been
01:04:15lurking for hours. They really won't leave me alone, do they? He said in a gruff voice.
01:04:22Always waiting, and they only come out when I've barely recovered. He raised his hand. Sparks crackled.
01:04:30between his index finger and thumb, but they went out before they could solidify. Too exhausted.
01:04:37Too empty. His powers were failing him. The red eyes darted forward and,
01:04:44From the shadows, a figure leaped, a pale blur with outstretched claws.
01:04:51Marcus braced himself for death. A flash of light cut through the alleyway like lightning. A bolt of lightning
01:04:58launched from the side, hitting the vampire in mid-leap. His body disintegrated into a
01:05:04white flame, turning into floating ash. His severed hand fell to the ground with a
01:05:10hissed, turning to dust moments later. "I told you we should have left sooner,"
01:05:17said a calm voice from one side. "If we had taken longer, he would have left by now." The look on
01:05:24Marcus headed toward the voice. Moments ago, there was nothing there. Now, two figures stood
01:05:32at the entrance to the alley, one next to the other, as if they had simply emerged from the
01:05:37shadows. One of them, a tall man with a large sword slung over his shoulder, rested it on his back
01:05:44as he approached. The other gave off a strange presence that sharpened Marcus's senses. Something
01:05:51It seemed strangely familiar to him, although Marcus was sure he had never seen it before.
01:05:56his life. Before Marcus could speak, the stranger raised a small canister and sprayed something
01:06:03toward him. A fine mist enveloped Marcus, soaking his torn clothes and stinging his
01:06:09wounds on the skin. "You have a pretty big wound," the man said matter-of-factly. "You smell
01:06:16"Blood." "No wonder they tracked you." Marcus blinked, confused, as the fog dried.
01:06:23quickly. The man continued, "You should have figured it out by now." That vampire wasn't trying
01:06:31kill you. He was tracking you, using you. He was keeping you alive so you could lead them to
01:06:37any other survivors who were still out there. Marcus gasped. He remembered the
01:06:44long chase, as the vampires had stalked him without trying to kill him, always remaining
01:06:50out of reach. They hadn't been trying to kill him. They had been herding him. In
01:06:58At that moment, Marcus didn't trust anyone. He never had, not completely, and after what
01:07:05had just happened that night, that paranoia had taken root even more in him. But these two, they had
01:07:11saved their lives. And they spoke of the creatures as if they truly understood them. He hesitated, and then forced his
01:07:19words. "Who are you? Why are you here?" The man with the strange presence looked at him with eyes
01:07:27calm and sharp. “Marcus,” he said. “Dark Guild Leader.” Marcus stiffened. The man
01:07:37He tilted his head, smiling faintly. "You have fascinating powers. I've noticed that they are
01:07:44increasingly common among your kind." He gestured to the swordsman at his side.
01:07:50"This is my assistant, Dean." Then his gaze settled on Marcus once more, and the air seemed to
01:07:57shift around him as he spoke his last words. “And as for me, I am Richtle.
01:08:03One of the founders of NIRV. Chapter 1520. A Safe Place. Marcus had never seen directly
01:08:14the founder's face, but I had seen it fleetingly in television reports or in
01:08:18some newspaper articles. Of all the founders of NIRV, the one I had seen the least was
01:08:26Richtle. The man seemed to avoid the spotlight like the plague, shying away from interviews.
01:08:32public and rarely appeared to greet even his most prestigious guests.
01:08:38The dark guild had already made shady deals with some NIRV workers, that was how
01:08:44obtained their product lines, but even during those secret transactions, Richtle had
01:08:49remained a ghost. He was an enigma in a world of infamous names, and now, the day when
01:08:56The Dark Guild was being dismantled, Richtle appeared out of nowhere. That only set off alarm bells in
01:09:03Marcus's mind, warning him to be cautious, because what this man wanted
01:09:08He had to be serious. "What's someone from NIRV doing here?" "Do they even know the magnitude of my situation?"
01:09:15Marcus asked, grimacing as he moved. Pain shot through his body with every movement,
01:09:22and every breath came out as a harsh gasp. I didn't know if I could stand a fight against those
01:09:29two men at that moment, especially with his body on the verge of collapse. Maybe, he thought with
01:09:35sadness, it was one of those situations where the enemy of your enemy became your friend
01:09:41temporary. At least, that was the hope he clung to for now, because he had nothing else left.
01:09:47"We should go," Dean said firmly. "Even though you sprayed him, there are bound to be those who follow his lead."
01:09:55trail. Or who knows, maybe they're searching harder now that the smell is gone. In any case
01:10:02In any case, staying still is not an option. Follow us if you want to live. "I'll make it that simple for you,"
01:10:09Richtle added, his voice as flat and direct as if he were talking about the weather. Marcus looked at him.
01:10:15stared for a long moment and then slowly moved away from the wall, his shirt still covered in blood.
01:10:22He hated how weak he felt, but he knew he didn't have much choice. The only place he
01:10:28He was planning to head to the other Dark Guild bases, and had already accepted that they would probably
01:10:33They were all dead. If he returned there, it would only be to die beside them. They moved quickly.
01:10:42through the alleys, ducking between alleys and dodging smashed fences. Dean led them
01:10:48in silence, while Richtle walked like a man out for a walk, with his hands in his
01:10:53pockets and eyes narrowed, as if none of this mattered to him. They entered through the back door of
01:11:00a restaurant, past the dark kitchen, then through the staff exit and onto another narrow street.
01:11:06From there, they ventured through the service corridors of several more restaurants and avenues.
01:11:12abandoned commercials, sailing like ghosts who knew all the shortcuts in the city.
01:11:19Finally, after what seemed like an endless maze of dimly lit hallways
01:11:24and creaking stairs, they reached the back of a bookstore several floors up.
01:11:30Richtle quietly closed the door behind them and locked it with a soft click.
01:11:34Finally, it seemed they were going to stop to breathe.
01:11:39"We've gone quite far without seeing them, but they'll be looking for you all over town," Richtle said.
01:11:45as he took out the same sprayer he had used before. He began to spray it casually.
01:11:51around the room and over Marcus's tattered clothes. A faint smell of herbs and metal filled
01:11:57the air. —What is that you're spraying me with?
01:12:00"Is it toxic?" Marcus asked, eyeing him suspiciously. His voice was husky, but with a hint of
01:12:08of suspicion. After everything that had just happened, I wasn't in the mood for cryptic tricks.
01:12:15"You're seriously injured." "You're bleeding," Richtle explained calmly.
01:12:20—So you stink. This is to disguise your smell. That's all it is, though, it doesn't change the smell,
01:12:28It just masks it. It will work for a while to confuse them, but it won't last forever.
01:12:35Eventually, they'll realize something's fishy, especially if they persist.
01:12:40"So this is just buying time," Marcus muttered. He slumped into an old chair,
01:12:46with his arms on the backrest. —And while it's working, what?
01:12:51"Do I have to wait here for them to find me?" "It's better for you to be in a place with other humans," he continued.
01:12:57Richtle as if Marcus hadn't spoken. "They'll have to filter through dozens of overlapping smells."
01:13:03—It won't stop them if they get close, but it might keep them wandering in circles for a while.
01:13:09enough for you to move again. Marcus's hands balled into fists over
01:13:15knees. He was shaking, not only from fear, but from exhaustion and frustration. —First,
01:13:22Why are you helping me? Why did they attack? And why are they attacking the entire dark guild? Do you know?
01:13:29even why? Richtle's gaze slid towards him lazily, like a teacher
01:13:34who tolerates a silly question. —Why ask me something you already know? —he replied.
01:13:40—It's clear you understand why you were attacked, because of your association with a particular group.
01:13:46I'm sure they warned you about them, just in case. What you probably didn't expect was
01:13:52the magnitude of the assault. You didn't think they were capable of such coordination, nor that they would risk
01:13:58so much to eliminate you. Marcus opened his mouth and then closed it again. He hated that Richtle
01:14:05was right. Deep down, I knew this was going to happen, but I hoped they wouldn't dare
01:14:11to try. —As for why I saved you, Richtle continued, it's because with your powers
01:14:17and talents, I think you could still be useful. You could play an important role in the
01:14:23future. But our journey together will have to end here. There isn't much more we can
01:14:29do for you." Dean gave Marcus an almost apologetic look. "They can't know."
01:14:35of our existence, he added simply. Marcus leaned back in his chair. He didn't understand
01:14:42not at all why Richtle had gone so far to help him, but at least it didn't seem like
01:14:47Neither of them planned to kill him. That was something. —So they'll be after me for the rest of
01:14:53my life, he said softly, and I'll stay hidden. —Is that all I can do?
01:14:59—Right now, said Richtle, capping the atomizer with a soft click, there's only one place you'd be
01:15:06safe from them. A place where they would hesitate to try to reach you. Also, they could be
01:15:13the only ones capable of protecting you. Marcus's ears perked up a little at that,
01:15:19the first glimmer of hope in hours. "Is there a group like that? Where?" "You should
01:15:25"Go to Slough," Richtle told him. His voice was calm but firm, like someone giving final instructions.
01:15:32before leaving. —The howlers will help you. But if you go with them, you must also do everything
01:15:39everything possible to help them. This won't be a sanctuary; you'll have to prove your worth.
