00:00We join the match in the second over, New Zealand four without loss,
00:03commentators Ravi Shastri, Jeremy Coney, Jonathan Agnew, Imran Khan and Ritchie Bennet.
00:16I think we can say that was speed.
00:19Hustled the batsman into playing a stroke where he was turned around.
00:25Very sharp.
00:27And 91.
00:30Straight through that gully area again.
00:37And that was pretty fast.
00:39I reckon that's going to be up around the 90 mark again.
00:55It's a no-ball call.
00:57It was also quite fast.
01:02There's five no-balls go down to the score there.
01:07They're short.
01:15They're slips are very, very deep.
01:20I know Shoe Bakhtar is quick, but there have been plenty of other quick bowlers around.
01:24They are a long way back.
01:26That's where you get the impression of Fardier standing.
01:33A long way back.
01:35Not much doubt about that.
01:44He may just have got an inside edge on it, but I reckon you'll see in the replay that the batsmen were beaten for pace.
01:55All in trouble.
01:56All in trouble.
01:56Aston playing back to a ball which I felt he should have been going forward to.
02:05But this is a ball that angles away because Fardier was normally a delivery that leaves the right-handed batsman.
02:20And I suspect that that came back a little bit.
02:23And of course, Aston was right back at his dunce.
02:26And as the astral goes, the new batsman is Craig Lillan.
02:34Now, once again, New Zealand haven't been able to get away with a big opening stand.
02:39Pace has been their undoing here this morning.
02:43Well, that's the first really positive stroke.
02:56Oh, well done.
03:06Beautifully picked up and thrown.
03:09In great anticipation.
03:13It didn't actually matter which side it was going
03:16because the left-hander, and he was able to gather it in on the run,
03:19coming on the angle.
03:20Well, that was out.
03:27Well shot.
03:30Need to be quick.
03:42Oh.
03:46That was a very, very dicey run.
03:50That sounds good to me.
04:11And now the captain strikes.
04:14And Macmillan, frankly, always suggested he was going to go that way.
04:18Wonderful start for Pakistan.
04:2938 for two, but it's too close, surely, for that shot.
04:33Well, once again, you see, just looking to try and play the ball too square.
04:37And this time he's got a little edge.
04:39Oh, and I'm delighted.
04:40It's not what we want.
04:41And a rather dejected Macmillan departs, New Zealand 2 to 38.
04:51And here's a key man for New Zealand, left-hander, the captain, Stephen Fleming.
04:55Off the bat.
05:12Welcome boundary to Matthew Horne, who's been there from the start.
05:17First indication, perhaps, of the outfield of the day.
05:34It looks pretty quick.
05:35And we've got Saklein Mushtaq coming on.
05:51Well played.
05:5250 up for New Zealand.
05:58And it's always good to see a batsman try and impose himself,
06:02particularly when the bowler is operating in favourable conditions,
06:05as his sack lane appears to be here.
06:09Well, that's the old.
06:13Absolute call cap.
06:14Well, really, he's not the fastest man.
06:25So he has to be very accurate.
06:27Look at that.
06:29He's deceived Matthew Horne, who's been in since the beginning of the simings.
06:35Lovely bowling.
06:36So it's Roger Tooth.
06:46He plays some very gritty innings in the World Cup.
06:49He's going to do it again.
07:01Lucky there.
07:01Get off the mark.
07:02Come on, boys.
07:05Come on, Kiwaki.
07:06Come on, Kiwaki.
07:20Lovely stroke.
07:27Tall men are often graceful players,
07:30and the combination of tall and left-handed makes it even more so.
07:42That should be four.
07:45The man had been brought up for Fleming.
07:48And he's responded in style.
07:55Pakistan have great depth.
07:56Azar Mahmood being introduced into the attack.
07:58That's a very good shot from Roger Tooth.
08:06He didn't try and hit it too hard.
08:09He's eased into that stroke and got the placement dead right.
08:11Pakistan!
08:19Pakistan!
08:20Pakistan!
08:22Pakistan!
08:22Pakistan!
08:23That's punched down the ground.
08:25That's his strength.
08:27And lovely timing here.
08:31So the second boundary of the over.
08:33and New Zealand now going along at exactly four runs per over
08:39oh that's a lovely shot he's hit that really hard
08:51there was the point and he was only a spectator as that ball spread across the boundary line
08:58made a change and that's a freebie coming along now this is again the seems attempt to break this
09:07partnership look for two and get it good running so the hundred coming up for New Zealand with those
09:21two runs this is all part of the World Cup semi-final pressure mounting on both the teams
09:51it's just pitching outside leg it's a good delivery it's his faster ball but he's not going to get a
10:01cluster ball pitchers in line with the stumps well this deceives Stephen Fleming pitched outside
10:09Fleming's leg stump that's hit him on the back leg
10:20well there's no shortage of incident in this over we've got one hand shots big appeal and followed
10:28up by more and more appeals and shouting for something that did pitch a good three inches
10:33outside leg stump and then this
10:35fast outfield here very well played
11:00Incredible
11:12America
11:17trying to catch the captains eye
11:21into Mum
11:25What an answer, what a wonderful answer, I don't think you'll see in this World Cup a better Yorker than that, you may not see a better Yorker any time, brilliant, absolutely brilliant.
11:55Well, I've had two missed fields, I'll do it myself, and it's swung. It's come from well outside, Fleming's off stump.
12:09And he can't believe it either.
12:25Well, it was in the air, short and wide, and Roger Toos enjoys that.
12:40It's like lightning.
12:42Well, this is just a lovely spell of bowling, isn't it? High pace there, that's the one that got Fleming as well, and almost removed twos.
13:06Fine hit.
13:08That's what I like about Chris Cairns.
13:20Well, that was a brilliant catch.
13:25Absolutely superb, Ijaz Ahmed, at backward point, going to his wrong hand as well, his left-handed has pulled off a blinder.
13:35Well, it's short, encouraging the cut shot, perhaps Toos didn't, yes, he did hit it reasonably hard.
13:42Oh, look at that.
13:44That's definitive, notable moments.
13:51Fine knock by Roger Toos, out for 46.
13:54Well, it's always unlucky when that happens.
13:55Nwasti with the throw, getting a direct hit.
13:56Pakistan's fielding.
13:57It's certainly impressive so far today.
13:58Well, it's always unlucky when that happens.
13:59Nwasti with the throw, getting a direct hit.
14:00Pakistan's fielding.
14:01Certainly impressive so far today.
14:02Oh, look.
14:03Oh, man.
14:04Oh, man.
14:05Oh, man.
14:06Yeah.
14:07Oh, man.
14:08Oh, man.
14:09Oh, man.
14:10Oh, man.
14:18Oh, man.
14:19Washtey with the throw again a direct hit Pakistan's feeling
14:25Certainly impressive so far today
14:36We've running nice placement for a start I
14:40Think the fellow on strike is the key to New Zealand's chances
14:44I know Cairns is a massive striker of the ball and if he's in form
14:48Then he'd be very good Harris is a deflector and a nudger and a nerd learn
14:55You sometimes think to yourself now Howard. How's he suddenly got to 20?
15:11There's a bit of a nudging I was talking about
15:15Get some of the middle some of the edge
15:18But he's dangerous
15:26What?
15:27That's the spot he's aiming for
15:30Just cut off by that man at deep banquet square
15:48That's good good stroke
15:53Way over extra cover
15:56Now the 200 up
16:01That's 44.1 overs
16:04You've got this one and two others from Wazimakram and three from Shoibakta
16:10Wonderful feeling that's a very dangerous position at gully
16:28He's having a big day Imran
16:31Jars used to be the best fielder in the team
16:35That was going to catchable height
16:39Good start
16:49Perfect Yorker first ball of a spell
16:51Have to be quick here
16:52Very good running
16:54Excellent running between the wickets
16:57Very difficult to ball at this pace
17:02To actually control your Yorker
17:04Beautiful style ball
17:10I think you'll find that there's an appreciable drop in speed with that
17:16He's given him three great Yorkers
17:18And then defeated him with a superb slower delivery
17:22Might just have been an inside edge
17:24But he was certainly beaten
17:27In the flight and by the change of pace
17:29He's very very good ball
17:31You just see him rolling his fingers over
17:34That was like an off break
17:36And Chris Harris just misses it completely
17:39Because of the change of pace
17:41That's excellent bowling
17:54Oh clever
17:57Go on
18:01Just
18:01Flick the off play
18:03Famous little flick
18:07You'll need the replay
18:09To decide precisely how it was done
18:12But it seemed to me that he got the outside edge
18:15And then
18:16It just rushed
18:18Very faintly
18:19The off stumble
18:20And I'd suspect Richie
18:26That Adam Perore didn't really see what had happened
18:28Because he was going back for his second run
18:31And seemed to be really shocked
18:33When he saw
18:33That he was actually bold
18:35And the Pakistani players were congratulating each other
18:38That was a beautiful strike
18:51Adverse circumstances
18:54Bowler attempting another Yorker
18:57And Cairns has smashed it
18:59Through extra cover
19:01There's bits of willow
19:11Everywhere out there
19:13And this is only from
19:16The medium fast bowler
19:18Wasi Makram
19:19It's a big problem
19:21This hitting right at the end of the innings
19:24Trying to hit Yorkers
19:27Is very difficult on cricket bats
19:29And then we see
19:29The bottom of the bat
19:31Coming off
19:32Down for three
19:42And the wild throw
19:44Has let them get through
19:45Show it back
19:51It's going to be safe
19:57Between two onrushing fielders
20:00One from long off
20:00And the other one at cover
20:02And Nash has to take a single here
20:16And that is a big moment for New Zealand
20:28Doesn't sound much
20:29There's three extra runs
20:31But it's taken them up now
20:32To that mark
20:35Just short of 240
20:37Competitive
20:38Bowled extremely well today
20:43Last ball of his
20:44Ten over spell
20:46Chris Cairns
20:50To take strike
20:52And neatly done
20:59They'll go for two
21:00Oh wrong end
21:04They've made it
21:06Sure I'm not happy with that
21:09He did not think
21:12There should have been two runs
21:13But that's very good running
21:14Between the wickets
21:15By the New Zealand players
21:17And I think New Zealand
21:19Should be very happy with that
21:20Because 240
21:21Is quite a target
21:23To set any team
21:24And Pakistan have not really been
21:25Chasing runs very well
21:27I think we've got a match
21:29On our hands
21:30Well as Imran was saying there
21:33Well done the New Zealand
21:34Middle order once again
21:35Whose consistency has been
21:36A key factor in all their performances
21:37Astor and Mermilan
21:38Again failing to produce the goods
21:40But as Imran was saying
21:41A total that would take some getting
21:43And as for the bowling
21:44Well Akhtar was mildly expensive
21:46But quite furious
21:47Wazim less so
21:48And Razak
21:49Were there a telling spell
21:50Right in the middle
21:51So 242 the target
21:53That's less than five and over
21:54But the Kiwi attack
21:55Has been pretty mercenary throughout
21:57And of course in Jeff Allett
21:58Had the leading wicket taker
21:59In the competition
22:00Well there's the scene
22:01Isn't that a great side
22:02And we're in the second over
22:04With Pakistan at five without loss
22:05As we pick up Dion Nash
22:07Bowling to Saeed Anwar
22:09And he got the roof on that occasion
22:15And he's hammered it
22:16Passed back for the point
22:18Raced away to the boundary
22:20That's four
22:27Got the opportunity
22:30To free his arms
22:31Saeed Anwar has laid into that
22:34That's a lovely shot
22:40Very controlled
22:43Very controlled
22:43Very risky
22:44Great placement
22:46Jeff Allett
22:53Who's the leading wicket taker
22:54In this world cup so far
22:56So Wasti gets his first boundary
23:03And he's able to
23:33To hit that a wee bit square
23:34Through the gap
23:35And that's picked away nicely
23:41On the onside
23:42That's the second time
23:43He's done it
23:43And the result is the same
23:44So three boundaries
23:48Coming very quickly
23:49Here for Wasti
23:49Loris spoke
23:58As good a square drive
24:04As you'll ever see
24:05A little straight up
24:14And the same result
24:16And the same result
24:16This boy has a tremendous future
24:22For Pakistan
24:22There's the 50
24:37Nine runs
24:39Coming from that over
24:40And here's another change
24:44Just getting away with that
24:52Almost a breakthrough
24:56That New Zealand
24:57Desperately want
24:58He's got that
25:08Through the gap
25:08Not quite brave a thought
25:11That will be too
25:27Nothing that Millen can do
25:29To stop that
25:30Stephen Fleming
25:35Turning to Gavin Larson
25:38It's going to be safe
25:43Didn't get it
25:48Right off the meet at the bat
25:49But it still landed
25:50Just five or six yards
25:53Inside the boundary
25:54A straight hit
25:54So then we're going
25:57For the straight one
25:58Doesn't get hold of it
26:01And that Niversum stroke
26:11He's been tied down
26:12By Gavin Larson
26:13For the last couple of overs
26:16And suddenly he's unleashed
26:18That full drive
26:20Got it away
26:21Through mid-wicket
26:22And that was off
26:23The middle of the bat
26:23They have been tied down
26:26It's the first boundary
26:27For 13 overs
26:28Goodness
26:40And then he might look rueful
26:47Bourne does the initial saving
26:53And Larson goes
26:58For Sly
26:59A couple of chefs out there
27:01Sprawling the soup
27:02Nathan Astle
27:07Slightly nerve-wracking
27:21Looking to hear guns going off
27:24In fact it's
27:25A bit early
27:31A bit early
27:33First limit over the international half century
27:46Sly
27:47And Raja Tullowaski
27:52And it's a good fight
27:55And it's a good fight
27:56To give them 84 balls
27:59Always a landmark
28:00Always a landmark
28:04Now a touch with the inventive
28:15And Syed Anwar treating Chris Harris as a spinner, sweeping him.
28:45Needed a direct hit.
28:55Syed Anwar's 31st one-day half-century.
29:00He's played beautifully today.
29:03Nothing too ambitious.
29:05He's just made sure that there's a century partnership there for the other players to build on.
29:15It's a long chase for the man of cover.
29:20Got no chance of getting it. It's a good shot.
29:23Just a fraction of width there.
29:27And Syed Anwar loves that.
29:35Yes, he just stands, doesn't he?
29:38It's the ball almost on the up.
29:45Stephen Fleming now turning to his strike bowler to try and break this partnership.
29:58Attempted Yorker.
30:00He couldn't quite get it into the slot there.
30:0329 overs gone now.
30:15The Pakistan run rate is just about back to New Zealand at the same stage.
30:211.22 for no wicket.
30:24Two seconds.
30:25Second five!
30:37Beautiful time.
30:39Pretty much a short arm jab.
30:40And this is what happens if you drop too short at this pace.
30:47Getting from low to high, getting underneath the ball deliberately.
30:53That's a nice stroke, that's a genuine late cut.
31:16It's quite useful this, isn't it, from the front foot, this.
31:29Away it goes. Someone will catch it, but it's just fallen short of the break.
31:39That's a nice piece of heading, there's no man out there at deep mid-ricket.
31:44Chose his spot very well.
31:51Well, treating Harris as a spin-up, dong lap if you like.
31:59He scored a great number of his runs there today, through mid-ricket, past square leg.
32:11Well, Alec again, just a little full and lovely poise and good balance from Anwar, getting the ball square enough through that gap.
32:28And good timing.
32:31That enables it to get to the boundaries.
32:34You can see that area.
32:37Eighteen runs scored in that area.
32:40Eighteen runs scored in that area.
32:44One hundred and fifty for no wicket.
32:46Michael Starno doing it well here.
32:47Ah!
32:48That anguished cry came from Gavin Larson.
32:49Or possibly from Adam Perora as well.
32:50One hundred and fifty for no wicket.
32:51One hundred and fifty for no wicket.
32:52Michael Starno doing it well here.
32:56Michael Starno doing it well here.
33:13That anguished cry came from Gavin Larson.
33:16Or possibly from Adam Perora as well.
33:20Well, this is Craig McMillan, who's about to come in and bowl for New Zealand.
33:28Well, Larson doesn't really have the pace.
33:46Sometimes you can do this as a medium pacer to surprise the batsman.
33:52Or maybe you can hope for good fortune and hope that he holds out.
33:57It was quite well bowled.
34:08May not look so at the moment because it's evaded the fieldsman's dive and has gone to the boundaries.
34:14He's not going to please McMillan very much.
34:16It doesn't please Matthew Horne greatly either.
34:20McMillan drew the batsman into stroke, deliberately tried to induce the drive.
34:25It cost him four.
34:26Yes.
34:27Well, the interesting thing here that Adler had to reach for it.
34:28And when you reach for it, sometimes you can lose a wee bit of control on the stroke and it can go in the air.
34:38But just with those strong wrists that he uses and I was able to keep that along the ground.
34:43Couldn't have placed that any better.
34:44Couldn't have placed that any better.
34:45Couldn't have placed that any better.
34:50Yes, once again a despairing dive in the deep.
34:51This was hit on the up and hit very, very hard.
34:57And hit very, very hard.
35:04But it may be a hopeless situation or appear to be for New Zealand.
35:11This is now equaling the best opening partnership.
35:31for new zealand this is now equaling the best opening partnership has now beaten the best
35:40opening partnership in the world cup beating the 176 by kirsten and gibbs for south africa
35:53i can't just help but get the feeling that new zealand are resigned to the fact that
35:58pakistan will go through here well that was completely mistimed
36:12another feeling that the man at mid wicket nathan astell didn't see that very clearly but
36:19and then doesn't matter
36:20it's both these batsmen seeing the ball like a football now he's not quite timed it but his
36:30intention is pretty clear he wants to finish this off quickly
36:38and kane's is now back
36:42and he's off the boundary as well maybe not quite
36:50it was a cheeky shot from side i'm worried he wasn't even looking at the ball
37:07in the end when he got some bat on it he had picked a spot
37:11well i think west is going to go
37:21and finally it's the captain who breaks his opening partnership
37:27194 for the first wicket
37:30between saidan one and chalata westy
37:39has come to an end
37:42westy out for 84
37:48an easy catch for fleming
37:49and it's been a sensational opening partnership
38:03not a bad time the stroller out to the middle
38:06194 for one on the board
38:08one on the board
38:15and saidan will pick the fielder there
38:20devin larson is the oldest man in the new zealand party
38:23very fine shot by a jazz now that was taken from off stump and he whipped it
38:47a bit wide of a mid-on
38:51it's a difficult sort of a shot you play on wickets on the subcontinent
38:57and this wicket resembles the nearest to a wicket in india and pakistan
39:01the field is coming in
39:25but it may be a mistake to do that for a jazz
39:33played a similar shot in the last over four
39:38this one he just decided to go over the top because the field had been brought in for him
39:45yes it does he's a very clean hitter off the ball and especially
39:50in the mid-on and mid-off area
39:55he picked that up very nicely
40:09good save
40:12the new zealanders are hanging in there with their feeling i think you find that that is only the two runs
40:25i'm not sure what's the trailing foot has done him
40:30that's four runs
40:41wow
40:49well the players knew there was still work to do but the crowd were on the pitch thinking it was all
40:59over when it wasn't and there'll obviously have to be an inquest now into how these sort of pitch
41:03invasions can be stopped before someone seriously hurt but it took more than 10 minutes to restore order
41:08and when play eventually resumed pakistan were just six runs away from another world cup final
41:22four of them
41:31mercifully there was no crowd of invasion
41:36but i think there will be now two to win
41:43it's in the air
41:44it's a bit of a shame really look at the players rushing to get out of this
41:55this madness
42:01safely
42:02no matter where it happens
42:09the crowd invasion of that kind is
42:13very dangerous
42:16i think the new zealanders have managed to get off the field
42:20the last one looked as though he's being engulfed by people the security people came out
42:26to assist him off
42:27and pakistan go through to the final now to play the winner of tomorrow's match at espaston
42:32australia and south africa
42:36and so that record opening stand in the world cup saw pakistan to that deserved place in the final
42:40on sunday whilst he playing one daring shot too many when the partnership reached 194
42:45side's second consecutive century came off 148 balls and just one of those days for the new
42:51zealanders up against an inspired team and two inspired individuals with the bat no one able to
42:56really break the deadlock and allot finished on 20 wickets for the world cup the kiwis adventure was
43:01over
43:03well tough luck today nothing going your way
43:05oh they played very well i thought we had a recently competitive total but uh we had to take
43:10wickets early put some pressure on them and uh they're opening partnership was outstanding so
43:14they uh they better very well took the game away we reckon a lot of your batsmen got starts they
43:19didn't carry on to make a big score was that a problem
43:22uh it could have been it's still 240 we were happy with we thought the wicket was a little bit slow
43:28and uh we would have settled that for the sale of the day probably 10 to 15 more would have been
43:32asked but they bowled very well uh shaved very very quick and uh can swing the ball so they take
43:38wickets at vital times and sometimes you can't get those partnerships when you were in the field we
43:43didn't see too many balls uh too much of the same did that uh go against you uh no there wasn't much
43:49sideways movement but we thought we might be able to get them with the lack of pace but uh two guys
43:53got in and stayed in and uh all we needed to try to get was wickets through the middle if we'd had
43:58that we might have been able to place some more pressure on them well was saying many congratulations
44:02tremendous performance by the team i think a great performance for the whole team the minute we started
44:09the game the body language was positive and i always believe and believe that saeed and
44:15in the best player in the world and saeed showed it again today 241 you were confident of getting
44:21that score yeah i was very the whole team it's not how i confident i think the whole team was very
44:26confident and the way shuyeh bowled his heart out and everybody tried their best i think the trading
44:32goes the whole team and obviously i would like to thank the supporters here and back home in pakistan
44:38and now we're all gonna go to uh maybe mosques to stay there and pray that god has given us whatever
44:43we require well second world cup final for you but a lot of the players will be going to lords for
44:49the first time they'll be looking forward to it yeah i think uh reaching a final of any world cup is a
44:54great achievement by any team and we all are very excited and on the other hand we have to be relaxed
45:00we have to concentrate we're one game away from it now are you choosy about your opponents not really
45:05no i think the way we are playing doesn't matter whoever comes we just have to work hard
45:08give 100 for 100 overs on sunday best of luck for the final was him well done today
