NATO has launched its annual “Steadfast Noon” nuclear drill in the Netherlands, involving 14 member states, 70 aircraft, and 2,000 personnel, amid escalating tensions between Russia and Ukraine. The two-week exercise, conducted from Volkel Air Base with support across Belgium, Denmark, and the UK, simulates nuclear operations without live weapons. Secretary General Mark Rutte emphasized the drills maintain NATO’s nuclear deterrent readiness, following the “Eastern Sentry” exercise in Poland. Moscow criticizes the exercises, calling them escalatory and heightening regional tensions.
