00:00A little girl in the shop the other day asked her mother why.
00:04That strange man with the headphones was wearing sunglasses.
00:07Inside, her mother asked the same question to herself, but eventually to me.
00:12I held back my aggression and I started to breathe.
00:15I wanted to say that I was struck by an asteroid as a kid,
00:18and these glasses helped with x-ray vision and shit,
00:21or maybe scare the vultures away and say I didn't have eyes at all.
00:25Or spread a simple message and lie and say I sat too close to the TV as a child
00:29and now I can't deal with the light inside.
00:32But I'd rather be honest and scared than dishonest and scared,
00:35so I got on one knee, crouched down to the girl.
00:39Took my glasses off, had a look around at the world,
00:41until I started to shake and my eyes welled up.
00:44I said I'm autistic and light tends to fuck my shit up.
00:48She looked so confused and then gave me a hug.
00:51She said I'm autistic too, put those glasses back on,
00:54you're like a vampire, you hide from the light and the sun.
00:58And I love vampires and so does my mum.
