An emotional video from Chhattisgarh’s Khairagarh has gone viral, showing an elderly woman weeping over a Peepal tree she planted and cared for for 20 years.

00:11a cut people tree, a tree she had planted with her own hands 20 years ago.

00:16Locals say she treated this tree like her own son, watering it every day, worshipping

00:21it and caring for it as if it were part of her family.

00:24But when the tree was suddenly cut down, she broke down completely, unable to bear the

00:28loss.

00:29While the villagers gathered after hearing her cries, many too became emotional.

00:33They said the peeper tree wasn't just a tree, it was a symbol of faith for the entire village.

00:38Angry villagers soon reached the Khairagar police station demanding justice.

00:43They alleged that a land dealer named Imran Maimon ordered the tree's felling to level

00:47the ground near his plot.

00:49Acting on the complaint, police registered Crime No. 464-2025 under Sections 298 and 35

00:56of the IPC and began an investigation.

00:58Imran was later detained and during interrogation, he confessed that he along with Prakash Kasore

01:04cut down the tree.

01:05After the act, the duo allegedly threw the wood cutting machine into a river to destroy

01:09evidence.

01:10Police have since recovered a scooter, are searching for the machine and both accused have been

01:14sent to judicial custody.

01:15Even amid this grief, the villagers have come together again.
