00:19Hello and welcome back to the channel.
00:21So here are three beautiful places just over an hour's drive south of Dublin to explore.
00:27The first one up was a castle dating back 800 years.
00:32Take the M50 down through the beautiful Glen of Downs onto the N11
00:35and take the signs for Enniscary where the Disney film Disenchanted was filmed.
00:41Just out of the village is the majestic Powerscourt estate house and gardens
00:45set in 47 acres of gardens designed in 1731.
00:51Explore 800 years of history.
00:54The Japanese gardens are beautiful and the views of the famous extinct volcano,
00:59the Sugarloaf Mountain, will take your breath away.
01:01You can book a tour online as they hold various walks and discussion groups
01:05on the history, flora and fauna of the estate.

01:18Let's move a short distance, about 15 minutes away, to Powerscourt Falls.
01:23It's said to be the highest falls in Ireland and is truly spectacular after heavy rainfall.
01:29A great spot for a picnic on a day out.
01:31And if you like hiking, there are numerous trails to walk both long and short.
01:35We visited after a dry spring and little rain and it looks very small, but wait.
01:40We promised big splashes.
01:43We visited again last year and the river was nearly full.
01:47It rises way up in the mountains some 2,300 feet up and flows through the granite to the falls which drop feet to the river below.
01:55It has quite a history, as well as many movies have been filmed here since the early days of film in the 1920s.
02:02A beautiful place for a family picnic or some exercise on a day out.
02:06There is even a cafe serving ice cream coffee, etc. for a quick snack.
02:12Finally, for our third and last place to visit one of the most visited places in Ireland, Glendalough.
02:18Even Garth Brooks had to see it when he did his five concerts in Dublin recently.
02:23Everything we have shown you is in Wicklow Mountains National Park, a 50,000 acre national park.
02:30One of eight national parks in Ireland.
02:33Come with us as we visit the deer, the goats and the amazing scenery.
02:38We promise something so close to nature and such a relaxing place to walk through and explore.
02:43It's a walker and hiker paradise.
02:45We came across baby deer with mum.
02:47Fierce looking hairy feral goats with gigantic horns, which are famous in the park and every sort of bird life, including pheasants and swans.
02:56Glendalough, meaning Valley of the Two Lakes, is a glacial valley and is one of Ireland's most treasured monastic sites.
03:04Founded in the 6th century by St. Kevin, a noble born hermit from Leinster and the first abbot.
03:11It soon became a thriving centre of spirituality and learning.
03:16St. Kevin, reputed to be born around 498 and educated by holy men before retreating to Glendalough for solitude to live as a barefoot hermit.
03:25He lived in a cave known as St. Kevin's Bed, embracing a life of prayer and simplicity.
03:31His reputation for wisdom and miracles attracted followers, leading to the establishment of a monastic settlement.
03:37For centuries, pilgrims and scholars flocked to Glendalough, drawn by its round tower, medieval churches and serene lakes.
03:47The site flourished until the Norman invasion in 1398, after which it gradually declined.
03:53St. Kevin passed away on June 3, 618, but his legacy endured, making Glendalough a must-see destination for those seeking a glimpse into Ireland's monastic past.
04:04There are two car parks, one close to the village of Glendalough and one up near the upper of the two lakes in the valley.
04:12When you have walked yourself tired, you can stay in the Glendalough hotel overnight, have dinner and enjoy the solitude.
04:19If it's your last day, you are only an hour and a half from Dublin.
04:24So there you are, our suggestion to spend your last day in Ireland with three beautiful places to choose from.
04:30We hope you have enjoyed watching, and we also hope you will visit Glendalough very soon.
