A new humanoid robotics fund KOID has launched on the London Stock Exchange, aiming to provide global exposure to the robotics industry. CGTN Europe spoke to people behind it.
Transcript
00:00Now, tens of millions of smart humanoid robots could soon be in operation across the whole world within decades.
00:08Just like artificial intelligence, the rise of advanced robotics is attracting big financial interest and investment.
00:15Our correspondent, Yolo Abdafeth, reports.
00:19A first for the London Stock Exchange.
00:21A robot called COID opening trading and launching a humanoid fund in the world of robotics.
00:31A gimmick, maybe, but with a serious intention to provide investors with global exposure.
00:36This is an ETF listed in the London Stock Exchange, and it's an opportunity for institutions and wealth managers and retail
00:44to get exposure to a very exciting, you know, technology segment, global humanoid robots.
00:53Robots look set to revolutionize some sectors.
00:56They include healthcare, retail, factories, and maintaining public spaces.
01:01China is investing heavily in AI-enabled robotics.
01:05A Morgan Stanley report earlier this year estimates there could be a billion robots worldwide by 2050,
01:12and that could create a market and supply chains of up to 5 trillion US dollars.
01:19By launching a fund here at London Stock Exchange,
01:21the aim is to have diverse companies developing and investing in humanoid robots.
01:27These machines need sensors, semiconductor chips, and AI software,
01:32and they're built to mimic the movements of the human body.
01:35It's complex and a work in progress.
01:38What we have is basically advanced manufacturing in China converging with US technology,
01:45US software, AI, and this is the byproduct, this is the final product.
01:49As with artificial intelligence, we're still learning quite how much of an impact robotics could have on society.
01:55It's likely to lead to ethical as well as economic questions.
01:59I think this is a multi-trillion dollar industry, and there's a lot of investment going into the industry today,
02:06and it's incredible.
02:08I think if you go into China, for instance, the automation that's happening in the factories,
02:16and real robots that are real use cases, China is a real leader at humanoid robots.
02:23The forecast is striking.
02:25Humanoid robots are increasingly likely to perform repetitive tasks in the workplace and in our homes.
02:32One crucial aspect of financing and developing humanoid robots like COID is introducing them to the general public.
